Kenny Burchard joins Matt Swaim and Ken Hensley to share the story of how he finally ended up becoming Catholic.
Having left Pentecostal ministry, Kenny ended up looking at a few possible church environments that he thought he and his family might be able to call home.
But at the end of all of it, he found that God was calling them to the last place he ever expected: the Catholic Church.

I was hit by a car at age 4 and Mary came to me. I had never heard of her up to that point. I spent my who life wanting to be Catholic. Even getting up on Sunday morning and walking to mass alone at age 8. I converted in 2011. It was a dream come true.

After more 47 years as a Protestant Christian, I am being received into the Catholic Church at Pentecost. Stories like Ken’s and many others I’ve watched in the past six months have been a source of hope, encouragement and have helped me immensely. Thank you! Praise be to the Lord Jesus Christ!

Wow, thank You, Holy Spirit! I'm just in time to wish you "Welcome Home" and will say a few prayers for you before your big day, Pentecost Sunday. I'm a Jewish convert to Catholicism. I was converted by a dream in 1990. In one split second, I knew that Jesus is real, He's alive, He's all-powerful, and He loves me. I fell in love with Jesus. I got on my knees and said, "Lord, I'm yours, body and soul, do whatever You want with me." I asked Him to find me my church and He led me to the Catholic Church. I entered the Church in 1991. I'm still in love with Jesus. I've had a wonderful journey. I thank God every day for my Catholic Faith.

For couples who are not in agreement about becoming Catholic together...I gained "permission" from EWTN and Mother Angelica to continue protestant worship with my husband. His father had poisoned "the Catholic well," and I told my husband I would not enter the Catholic Church until he affirmed his goodwill blessing on the change. The change did come. I am Catholic. He is Protestant. We share God and Christ. But we don't challenge or argue about faith. One day I pray my husband will understand the Catholic Church and join me. But he is a godly man, and I am grateful for him!

I am a Catholic, I remember during our recollection retreat way back years ago in high school. The priest wrote the word CHRISTIAN on the board and draw a line across the last 3 letters of the word and said, without the ian- I Am Nothing without CHRIST. That is a “something”I carry in my heart all the time.

Kenny, an amazing story. I picked up on the fact that you likely went to Fresno Pacific Seminary...from another recent episode. My uncle Dr. Edmund Janzen was once the president of that University. He was a man I admired deeply for his faith and commitment to Christ. Notwithstanding, my journey to Catholicism has had similar wrinkles to what you experienced. I would love to chat sometime. My dilemma currently is that I love the church I was very active with and to some degree still am, as well as the Catholic Church that I have become a member of... I need to discern a few upcoming actions that I need to possibly take. If I have a sense of mission, it is to break down the huge wall of misinformation that I see on both sides of the theological divide. You took an hour and 9 minutes to tell your story in this episode alone, It would take at least that much to discuss the things rattling around in my mind even though I am now a Catholic...

I realized there was a lot of cleanup on aisle 6. 😂. Love this so much. I can absolutely relate. Oddly enough, I never loved church as a Protestant. I tried different kinds. Really thought I’d love the rock band church. But I dropped out of that church too. In my prayers before ever stepping foot in a Catholic Church, I lamented to the Lord that neither my husband nor I like going to church. What church can we both go to that we will both like? Please show us. Long story short, we LOVE being Catholic and LOVE going to church so much. We love Mass. Been going since February 2021 and in the choir. It has changed our lives and our relationship and our relationship with Jesus.

I am a life-long protestant, born-and-raised Baptist, spent decades in a non-denominational, evangelical church and ~15 years in a PCA Presbyterian church. I was confirmed into the Catholic church at the Easter vigil this year. Kenny's story resonates with me. When he was talking about Mary I was reminded of the only time I felt like rending my garments and running from the Mass screaming "heresy". It was at the feast of the assumption of the Blessed Virgin. They were singing a hymn in which Mary was referred to as the "Light of the World" or the "Bright and Morning Star" or something to that effect. I remember thinking those were titles that should only be given to Jesus. Marian dogmas are still a bit of a struggle for me but I have decided to trust the church (now that I am convinced that Sola Scripture doesn't hold water).

Imo, you'd have been right about the song lyrics. But of course usually the hymns are not part of the liturgy. In this case particularly not. I've come across heretical hymns occasionally at mass. I've also come across protestant hymns used at a Catholic seminar that made me feel uncomfortable...even before I read up and found they were protestant.

I thank God again that you three are doing this. Yesterday after going to Latin Mass, I felt led to go visit my old Baptist church and hear the sermon and the great music. Good old memories flooded me in my youth and yes my new faith, function and fevor. This was the week where they took communion. I peacefully didn’t and yes stood out. Afterwards in this large church, I reconnected with old friends and older families. I simply pronate how God drew this man baptized RC at birth/never raised in it back home after all. Lord protect all of our consciences.

The Roman Missal contains not just the most common forms of the Mass but the procedures and actions to be done by the laity also. For exemple, when to kneel, stand, bow and bless oneself. Correct conduct is very important during mass. What you will find missing for example is that during the Our Father the orans position is not assumed by the laity. It's av pentecostal protestant habit. Try and get an up dated version.

There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with holding hands up to the Lord during the Our Father. Everyone should be. People who even make that statement are blinded by the devil and don't really know what you're saying. You're the reason Pope Francis calls you rigid.

Oh. I thought a Locution was an Audible Voice...
@KennyBurchard
@KennyBurchard 3 ай бұрын
It’s audible. There are more auditory organs than ears. “Listen my child with the ears of your heart…” rule of St. Benedict. Prologue. Jim Blackburn at Catholic Answers describes it this way: “A locution is a form of private revelation, similar to an apparition, but rather than being seen a locution is heard or received internally.” St. John of the Cross used this simple definition of a locution: words produced in the recipient by divine action.
