Its like the South of Spain, it has a Mediterrenean landscape. The French and Spaniard Imperialist forced Abdelkarim El Khattabi (leader of the Riffian freedom fighters) to surrender after Europeans poisened the people and land with mustard gas!

Well it was an invasion because Abd El Khrim, who had beaten the Spanish, despite Spanish chemical weapons attacks, and established a Rif Republic, invaded French Morocco, prompting France (who thought the Spanish were a joke) to invade the Rif Republic along with their Alouite Moroccan clients with overwhelming force. The French brought in lots of chemical weapons of their own, and the French and their clients captured the Riffian capital pretty much without Spain’s help. The French and French Moroccans then ceded the land to the reunited Spanish Morocco.

This is a very old propaganda film, and must not be viewed as an accurate historical portrayal of the Rif war. Times have changed, and is now widely accepted that these wars were morally wrong. btw they were only defeated with overwhelming force of numbers, almost 500000 French and Spanish troops had to combined to face the Rif and succeed.

The narrator Ed Herlihy was only 14 years old in 1925 when this film was shot . Also the Great War was not called the First World War until the 1940's . The narration must have been added later .
