Thanks! Yes we have Peloquin in the transaxle but just put it in last year. We did a ton of adventures without it. But it does make a difference and I would highly recommend one! nate

4:45 - 2nd gear at 4,000 rpm. 30MPH? I am looking to get a Westy soon, but the ones in the location, condition near me are automatics. Will an automatic take a hill like that at roughly the same rpm and speed?

Not sure, I have never driven an automatic Vanagon but I will tell you it will not go faster up the hill with a stock WBX engine. We have a Rocky Jennings 2.2L and Techtonics chip in the ECU in ours. The hill we were on goes from 6K feet to 10K feet in a hurry. It was steep. 4K rpm is no issue for the WBX. nate

Fun! Remind me of your suspension setup? I'm sure it's in your back catalog. GoWesty lift? Tire size? How did your shocks hold up to the washboard? I seem to remember that you have a peloquin LSD. Just curious as you cleared those ruts so well. I'm upgrading the suspension on my van right now and I'm looking as a reference point. :-)

During the trip we had Rancho 9000 adjustables on the front and Bilstein 5165’s on the back. We blew the front shocks sometime this trip and we have since replaced them all with the Fox schlock’s from GoWesty. For springs we have GW 1.5” lift springs in back and Moog springs up front. We run a 215/65/16 tire and yes we have a Peloquin LSD. Good luck with the build and thanks for watching! Nate

What is the best thing or mods you can do to make these vans reliable? they are so cool but I don't know if I would trust one on remote backroads.

Well any 37 year old vehicle will need to be gone over to assure all systems are in good working order. For our Westy, we have gone through all systems over the years and have rebuilt or replaced anything we felt wasn’t working properly. Now this of course won’t prevent a breakdown but we also carry critical spare parts for that situation. I am also my own mechanic and know my van inside and out. But in the end, there might be a situation where we need to walk out to find help. All part of the adventure! Thanks for watching Nate

You can get most replacement parts from RockAuto or FCP Euro. GoWesty is great for specialty parts. Check out Buslab as well. We have a TruckFridge 65 in place of the factory Dometic and it is better in every way. We did a video of the install a while back. Nate
