Yes we definitely like to camp alone and love to show people how to get out and find these amazing places. We rarely post the exact location unless it is a known area as we don’t like to give out our favorite camps. But a lot of times we are on a road trip passing through and most likely will not return to the same place. So by the time you see the video, there no chance someone will know where we are. You can have both, a solitary camp and sharing adventures. Nate

You guys aren’t alone. Thanks for sharing, it takes a lot of courage. Mental health is insidious. We lost my wife’s brother to prostate cancer at 58, shortly after lost my mother. I also had mystery pains without any diagnosis that anxiety meds helped with. Keep the faith, best wishes for you both.

Hello, I had to comment. Sorry for all your loss. Both of my parents have been declining for over 2 yrs. and my Father has dementia and it's just such a heart breaking, horrible disease. Also, myself....I went through similar situations were Doctors were not listening to me at all. went to every Dr imaginable, I just knew something was wrong with me. My anxiety was and still is really severe. they threw all kinds of different medications at me for anxiety, depression etc. and they all just made everything worse. They had me convinced it was all mental when I just knew, nah your wrong something is wrong with me. I recently found out in June I have Celiacs Disease, I am also Type 1 diabetic. I probably went 4yrs or more having undiagnosed celiacs disease and like I said went to every possible dr and specialist and ER trips about 4 times. So, I am still going through a lot but I am hopeful. So you are right, you have to advocate for yourself because our Health Care system just blows. Take care and wish you guys the best. And take care Nate, anxiety is brutal. Look into finding a therapist that is mindfulness based, it is really helpful. Good luck!

Hey you two. Very sorry to hear about all of the things you’ve been through. I met you at Syncrofest briefly but didn’t see you there much. We lost a pet shortly after we returned and I felt like our trips away this year (also Baja) were too hard on the little guy. I am starting on statins soon and now I am paranoid. We’re getting old I guess. Glad to hear things are improving now for both of you. You’re a good team. You will get through it. Thanks for the update. Here’s to a better year ahead.

When it rain sometimes it really pours. Your 2023-24 heartaches and health issues is similar to my 2017. Everything fell that year starting in January, from losing a job to pain in my body to the passing of my father, losing my dog, a theft/murder of a relative, to losing my wife’s father, to the passing of a friend and a house burned down that my late father-in-law built. 🥺😢 When I made the decision to euthanize my dog it was the most extreme painful part of my life. It gets better but you the pain will always be there the rest of my life.

Sorry to hear all the bad news; as one who has suffered from chronic anxiety all my life, everything you say about it sounds very familiar. Been there. Glad you got off the statins, they are not suitable for anyone. Meds don't do much for anxiety, I find. I'm much older--80--so experienced dealing with this issue. My advice is just to be aware when you are anxious. Recognition will give you power over it. I can stop a panic attack in seconds now, just by recognizing and acknowledging that that is what is happening, and it's ok--just normal stuff. The love of a good woman is amazingly healing and you have that. I also find complaining and having it heard is very therapeutic--good for the soul. Apologies for all the advice--I relate, for what it's worth. We love your videos and are always inspired to get out there in our Westy and have some adventures. But at our age, we find it more and more difficult, so we live vicariously through yours. So you mean a lot to us. This, too, shall pass. We are really looking forward to more of your adventures when the time is right. Dennis and Kathi

Sorry you guys have been going through so much. I had to suddenly put my almost 14-year old rescue dog down in June. It's so difficult, but the final act of kindness we can do for them. They leave paw prints on our hearts. All I can offer is to give yourselves time to grieve, and always keep your I Love Yous up-to-date. We all grieve differently. Getting out in nature when I can, camping with my two dogs, just driving or walking locally with them to a favorite spot, packing lunch or tea/coffee, and sitting, enjoying a beautiful, quiet view or location has helped me. Getting involved in projects helps divert my mind a bit. Exploring new places. I read a suggestion to write my dog a letter, so I did that, and it's tucked into an envelope next to her cremains. Although I only had her for a little over 14 months, I miss her so, but she was suffering. Time doesn't heal, it's what we do with time. Take care, and congratulations on 25 years of marriage! May you enjoy another 25-or more! Virtual hugs (((H))) from Oakridge, Oregon.

@@ThatBaldwinLife I can't take credit for it, it was a list of things that came with her ashes, from the place in Sacramento that cremated her. I created a little memorial shrine on my mantle for her 'urn'. Needless to say, you probably felt the same strangeness that I did, walking in with my dog, and out with her empty harness and leash. I held her paw as she took her final breath and her heart stopped beating. She was laid on the floor so my other two dogs could see, smell her. The vet clinic at UC Davis, where I was visiting when her health took a drastic turn for the worse, sent me her paw print. Small things still cause tears to well in my eyes as I write or think about her (like now), and that may never change. Nikki was a special girl, my first rescue dog, already a senior at 12-1/2 when I adopted her. Seniors are difficult to re-home apparently, because they don't have much life left, but I didn't think of it that way, just that I wanted to give her a loving, furever home and some new experiences. She got to camp in the Westy a couple of times, in my Element this Spring, where she got to feel sand under her feet for possibly her first and only time in Yachats. I wanted her to experience the CA Redwoods on our way home, but that just wasn't to be. I bought a small, decorative box and glass vial for some of her ashes, so that she can continue to journey with the remaining pack. She was an American Eskimo, came with a crate for which I bought a nice, soft lofty bed, and my little 12-year old Eskimo enjoys going into her crate and hanging out inside, so that does my heart good seeing it being used. I think they become so much a part of our lives, moreso than many people do, so their passing can take a bigger toll than we realize, especially as they age and require more care and time. Nikki had to be carried up the stairs from the beach at Tillicum, but I'm glad she got that experience. Her prior owner was in Aloha, an older woman, and I don't think she got out much. She was the perfect dog, which is perhaps why her loss seems so difficult. I wish I could have had her longer. Sorry for the ramble. You two take care of yourselves. ❤️

My question is to back this up with some real data: 1. How long in ft was the breaking distance with 50 miles per hour speed to stop on a flat road with drum breaks? 2. How long in ft was the breaking distance with 50 miles per hour speed to stop on a flat road with the Burley breaks? The same test for upgrading the front breaks to bigger disc breaks. That would help an informed decision. This may be the job of these breaks manufacturers to show but if you had done this test, this would have been really helpful.
@ThatBaldwinLife
@ThatBaldwinLife 18 күн бұрын
Our stock drum brakes were poor shape, constantly needing to be adjusted to work properly. Every time they got really wet from rain, the shoes bound to the drum when the ebrake was applied. Not worth fixing in my opinion. Any stopping test would have been severely biased to a new, modern disc brakes system. We were not interested in repairing an outdated braking system when modern, VW based disc brakes are readily available from any auto parts store. The front brakes are pretty easy to understand why they are more effective, a larger, vented rotor provides more braking force and is less likely to fade. I understand your desire for a more scientific test, but that was not the purpose of this video. Your best bet is to find someone with these types of brakes installed and take a ride. nate

I can have it done in less than three hours if I'm pushing it. Easily in one day. Just have the right tools available. Good jack for the transmission. Torque wrench. Puller for pilot bearing. Correct 8mm triple square bit for CV joint bolts. Sometimes the hardest part is lining the transmission and engine up and getting the input shaft aligned with the clutch splines. Just take your time and don't force it. One thing to pay attention to is when you remove the flywheel to replace the pilot bearing, assure the shims behind the flywheel are not disturbed. There are a few shims and on top (facing you) is the thrust shim. If they fall out/down, place them back in that order and put a little wheel bearing grease on them so they do not fall or move during the flywheel install. Those shims along with the flywheel torque set your crankshaft end play. Very important. nate
