I'm only about halfway through my summer on the road and I'm about to start the longest riding and camping portion. It's a little intimadating to know I am going to be on the road for up to 7 weeks. I have some things planned and there will be times when I am winging it. Today is all about dropping off the stuff I don't think I will need or that I think are taking up too much space. I am going to regret not bringing my mesh riding jacket.

Remember way back in the 70's when we were all riding British bikes and Harleys. Back then a big trip was 50 miles as most broke down or vibrated to pieces in short order. These new bikes are so dependable. I ride Goldwing's but my ST's were just as reliable. Sure makes riding a lot more fun

I bought a '72 BMW R75/5 when I was 19. Reliable and simple to work on. Always carried tools and I don't know how many times I stopped to help people on the bikes you mentioned. I remember having the tools to help someone get a chain back on... a couple of guys wearing well known colours who did not have a wrench between them. A lot of joking in that half hour and they were quite interested in the Beemeer and the shaft drive.

It's too bad we usually don't realize until we are "older" just how precious time is... along with heaalth, they really are all we have. I'll probably talk about that a lot in the coming videos.

I’m still waiting on Harley Davidson to get all my wiring done. It would’ve been done but I wanted to go with a 5 pin flat plug instead of the 4. So it’s looking like it’ll be another day, or even 2. That’s ok those guys are awesome and treat me and my trike great. I still have to many other setup things to do before I can actually get on the road. Thanks for the videos. Tom

I'm still waiting on getting the Goldwing over here. It does have a hitch on it but I don't know what it has for wiring. The Mini Mate is a 5 pin, so yes, best to match that. I'm finding I'm ordering lots of small things to make my camping fo better. Darn Amazon!

I hacked your string on the kickstand plate trick. 'Left many behind earlier. Anxious to see the rest of the series now that you are headed to the mainland... and especially to see if you find a Canadian Tire anywhere in the states. There are a few Timmy Ho's in the "border states", one in Indianapolis, no less. And I check the boxes "brave" and "adventurous". Long story, but on my 50th anniversary of "discovering" geology (my career) I took a dozen university students to SW Texas to the place. Four alumni joined me. This year, it grew to 20 students to Death Valley with 10 "Geo hosts', equally split male/female. I had no idea what I was starting in 2022, but it continues to grow. Let the long journey... continue!

Love that you, like me, are still working with students. Half of my crew this summer will either still be in theatre school or will have just graduated this year. Time to mentor them into the real theatre work world. That string means that plate has been with me since around 1990. I am sure I will find at least one Cdn. Tire parking lot and possibly a Tractor Supply one as well over the next 7 weeks. While editing, I'm already running into things I almost forgot. I'm looking forward to seeing where I've been too.

I do miss having a tank bag... These newer Goldwings have no provisions to mount/attach one. You have some big ass bug up there, good thing you also had some rain!

That video was from August of 2022 with added voice over as I edited just 2 days ago. I probably threw people off with mentioning 2023 as I passed the park kiosk. I've realized with my schedule this year, working til the day before I hit the ferry and not coming back to the island until mid-Oct., I probably won't camp a single night this year in one of our provincial parks. Big contrast to last year when I probably spent 40+ nights in parks here.

A few months ago when I booked my ferry for this August all of the cabins had already been booked. I couldn’t believe that they were booked up 8 months in advance! I agree it’s expensive but I still opted for the wait list in hopes that one becomes available. My brother and I will be riding from somewhere between St Anthony and Port aux Choix that day to catch the midnight ferry, followed by another long day to Moncton so we’ll likely need the added rest. A shame to just pass through but we’ve decided that Labrador is the focus this year and a thorough tour of Newfoundland will be 2024’s trip. Cheers!
@OldGuyonaBike

Being on the wait list this far out should work out. Lots of people over book and then cancel. In the fall, I have booked a cabin more oftenknowing I will want the comfort and warmth the most then. We always have to take fatigue into consideraation. I should be out west when you come through this year but may be on the island in 2024.

I'm about to go down through the New England states to cross into Ontario at Niagara Falls, then to Ottawa area, over to Sault Ste. Marie to cross back into the states and follow the Mississippi down to Memphis, go to Birmingham and then head north.

Getting on the ferry looks familiar as I did this when I started the 106 days series. Came back to Newfoundland for just over a month and now off to Ontario, then down south to Birmingham before heading north again. So, similar ride and ferry crossing only a month and a half apart.
