Some of my new habits are also helping me to cope with a deluge of stress at the moment....I'm sharing today as some bits may help others. I hope so. Plus some reviews of things that have been entertaining me. This isn't a 'doom and gloom' video! 😉
Please be kind and respectful when you share comments and opinions.

So many times I've tried to explain this and deleted my comment. To me Vivi is a magical lady. From a far away place. When she talks about her life. Feels like I'm reading a book about this busy, and so exciting different world than I'm from. Still now continues to persevere even when its not easy! Vivi you are amazing to me. Just know someday I'll be at the store and see a Vivi doll with a book set and mini garden, shed and sewing machine. It would have been a dream to have someone like you to look up to as a child! Magical lady know that you're a treasure to me!

I can so relate to what you are going through. I'm a night person too. My doctor has tried all different kinds of meds and nothing helps. They either don't work or give me nightmares or restless leg syndrome. I always get afternoon appointments whenever possible. I'm not lazy either. My circadian rhythm doesn't follow society norms. I just sold my house, finally, and bought another one across two states (USA) away. Believe me, I know that stress. And if one more person asked me when I was going to get moved, I swear I was going to throttle them. Nothing was in my control. There was nothing I could do to speed up the process. I wasn't dragging my feet. Also, I love Shetland. I ordered all of the series on DVD's to date, from England. Same with Vera and Trapped. When I get settled in and get a TV hooked up, I'm ordering Brit Box and Acorn. My guilty pleasure. If I had it now, I wouldn't get anything else done and I never would get any sleep. I know me. Hang in there friend. You aren't alone.

I've started the same kind of thing. I was diagnosed with long covid not long after moving to Leicestershire. Trying to cope and manage the chronic fatigue and anxiety along with the crashes that land me in bed for hours or days depending on what I've been doing. I've started keeping an events diary. I have put in the things I need to do, and then I write what I actually did in a different colour pen. I've also started a small morning and evening routine. Even if all I do that day is my morning routine, it's a win. I completely get the waking your legs up part. I have what I call my bed exercises. These help very much with coping with the pain. This all sounds promising as I have scrolled down and read others' comments. ❤️ 😊 ❤ Very encouraging video Vivi xxx

I have what I call ‘getting out of bed’ exercises too!!! My physio suggested it a few years ago and I said yup I already do them. I also use a cbd and magnesium massage bar every night, paying close attention to my offending areas/ joints. It’s so kind of Vivi to share Vlogs like this, helps to remind us we are very much in this together, even when it feels like we aren’t. Much love, Charlotte 😘 x

Henry V! My favourite! I got into the habit of keeping a journal many years ago at work. It helped me keep track of home and school and work and kids and bills as a young overwhelmed single mom trying to do it all. I always felt like I was failing miserably...... at everything. Those journals kept me sane even when I was drowning and not knowing if there was enough to buy milk and bread..... now, retired, My journal still supports me knowing when deposits will be made, what scheduled payments are due and how much, and appointments and the occasional lunch or dinner with my now middle aged children. This is a horribly stressful time for you, made doubly so by the staggering uncertainty of your pending sale and move. Here, 🇨🇦 you would have been long moved and settled. it seems a tortuously long business... and needlessly so. That said, Fingers crossed, you will soon get the official closed date, hand over those keys and notes to the new owner and take yourself off to a wonderland of paint, and taps, and fabrics with a new set of keys in your hand! 😁❤️ Just think, a few more short weeks and you will be getting up at 7:30 to putter in your garden or just feel the sun as you sit on the back step enjoying a hot cup of spicy apple tea!

Hi Vivi. I have had to step back as the Foster co-ordinator for the cat charity I volunteer for... my memory is so bad now I am unable to make and retain new memories.... I survived HSV2 Encephalitis in 2005 but I think the prolonged severe emotional distress from losing the Granddaughters has further impacted the memory issue. My boss has no sympathy or understanding and says things that make me feel like I am nothing... so.. I have stepped away but still fostering. I have decided that I need to look after me for a while without any unnecessary pressure so I am making sure I am getting enough rest and my goal now is to give myself good food... making a meal every evening, which I have not been doing. So far so good. Sending you lots of love xxxxx

The only time I use an alarm is for early appointments. Like tomorrow morning! The window for my gas meter replacement is from 8 to 12 and I usually get up at 7:30, hence the need to for an alarm tomorrow. Very important to wind down before bed. I read for a couple of hours so glad to hear you are figuring out what works for you. Stress is usually about things that will happen in the future so focus on the present as much as you can and stay in the moment. I also find working with your hands gets you out of your head…like hand stitching. Sleep well. 🌟❤️ 😴

It’s a challenge being self employed and working from home. It almost feels as though it’s a process one has to go through to eventually come out the other side, with some sort of epiphany. I worked too hard and like you, long hours that blurred and essentially I was having no time for myself or others. I became consumed by what I did. I eventually suffered burn out. It is serious. Mine lasted 3 years, and if I’m totally honest, I still haven’t recovered, creatively. What I have learned and stopped doing a long time ago is to stop measuring my day by productivity, but to measure it by how present I am. My mornings are slow, just for me. I cook my porridge on the hob and sit watching the garden birds feasting on the fatballs. I slowly brew a pot of coffee and let my mind wonder wherever it needs to. I shower, then begin my working day and finish by 5pm and have weekends off. I can now look back and I see that I felt as though I had something to prove, but to who? I equated busyness with success. However, I have now learned to care a little less. I will sit with my cat for an hour and not feel guilty or potter in the garden for 20 min. My whole outlook on ‘work’ has changed and I now see it as less of a priority. Of course consequently I have a little less money, but I make just enough… and that is enough. That is my choice and I’m relaxed and more content for it. Sending you a hug xx

Sorry to hear you are feeling stress, but also thanks for chatting about it. It’s something many of us will go through, (or are) and talking about what you’re doing to help yourself will have certainly helped others 💕. Love the ‘to done’ list and so pleased to hear your setting yourself a shut off time 🥰. I’m trying to build new habits, started last year with reducing caffeine, (never felt any issues with it, but learned how it effects your bones) I think it’s probably sensible to do all I can to protect my bones, given my joint issues and age. I also learned alcohol reduces bone density too. I don’t drink much, a couple of beers a month, but I found it so interesting reading up about it. The sleep tea is lovely isn’t it? I got it for my sister when she was struggling with sleep last year and have started getting for my hubby the wind down collection, it has two versions of sleep (one is orange and valerian) and other calming/ de stressing blends too, (with b vits to support neurological function etc) Lots of love, Charlotte 💕 x

These sound like realistic changes/boundaries you are setting for yourself Vivi, like somebody else commented, I also hope that your bedroom might have potential to be a separate space for you in your new home in 🙏where you can really wind down in your sanctuary. Do you have a bolster or extra pillow to raise your legs in bed? You will know better than most how leg pain and raised cortisol make it v difficult to wind down of a night time. I set myself two hours every night of study for my pt degree in French as that is as long as my head can handle with language acquisition and after that I catch up on watching any favourite shows or KZbin . Stroking my cat at night helps me sleep as the purring is v relaxing! I only read for fun on the bus to work but I did buy the book you recommended about the female explorers, really looking forward to getting stuck in! One day off a week for our Vivi, yayyyyyy! Hi Vivi, this conversation made me think of a podcast you might consider for your relaxing time. Not sure how it works there but there are numerous ways to get podcasts - and they’re free! My favorite is called The History of English Podcast by Kevin Stroud. He starts at the beginning with Proto-European to pre-Germanic to Anglo-Saxon all the way to current (I’m still in pre-Viking England). It’s full of interesting history and especially how that history changed our language.

Moving house is one of the most stressful times in a person's life, along with divorce and bereavement... and I blame working shift patterns for sleep problems. Vivi, Here I sit in extreme northern Pennsylvania (it’s up to 13° f at mid day!) smiling at how much you enjoyed Shetland. Absolutely ! I’ve been away for a bit so maybe you’ve already mentioned Broadchurch at some point, but I found it to be in much the same vein as Shetland. Both are very Agatha Christie-style. About the sleeping thing… a doctor who visited patients on our floor dealt with complaints of trouble sleeping by instructing us to make sure the patient was up by 7:00 or so. And usually a couple mornings of that and they were ready to hit-the-hay early. To deal with this cold, I’ve been taking a 5 gallon covered bucket of very hot water out to put in the coop with an ancient little bantam hen. I change it out as it cools and she has learned to snuggle up beside it. We do what we can for the elderly…I hope someone brings me a hot water bottle! Oh, I just thought of Tony Walker Classic Ghost Stories. You might like his narrations. And thank you for letting me know about Far From The Madding Crowd DVD. I downloaded an old copy of the book from the Gutenberg Project complete with wonderful old illustrations. Good luck with the “habits”! Rick

I love those teas... As I am watching I am drinking the digest..... delicious. and I double dip.... ( I use the bag twice ) .. I really hate it when all the problems that cause us issues are made by others...I have to remind myself of the serenity prayer at times like that... No use fretting if it's something you can't change ... I never make resolutions.... then it doesn't upset me if they fail... take things a day at a time. The appliances are a hiccup in the scheme of things.. and you are using them so enjoy their newness while you can. Sleep is a big issue I have lived in tiny apartments with the bed in the living space it's so difficult to switch off ...... I can't remember when I got more than 3 hours sleep in a night ... mainly due to pain..had more injections in my hip this morning maybe it will improve things including enabling me to get back in the garden.... but I do need a hip replacement so it's a temporary fix ... Chins up... It will all pass...🥰😘

I'm with you on the positive changes! I have the exact same sleep issues. I am a night owl...always have been...and it is SO hard for me to go to sleep at a "normal" hour. I understand that stress you can have when you have a scheduled appointment as well. If I know that I have an appointment at noon next Wednesday, I immediately start stressing about having to go to bed early the night before, sleep, and try to feel human for the appointment. It is brutal! The stress normally makes me not be able to go to sleep the night before and I end up either taking something to help me sleep, which give me the "hangover" feeling the next day...or not sleeping much at all and feeling horrible the next day. Lose-Lose. I hope you can get your sleep schedule worked out to suit your needs! I am trying to de-stress my life. I am in the middle of a 14 day "semi-vacation". I have to do a certain amount of cooking and cleaning, etc., but I am working on a "must needs" basis. I am trying to sleep more and get a better quality of sleep, stop obsessing over every single thing in my life, etc. I am trying to spend more time reading and taking care of myself. I've begun to have some health issues and I think they stem from years of loads of stress and resulting high cortisol levels. I hope both of us succeed in achieving our goals!

I have had some health issues and haven’t worked in 16 months (with no gov support), but I am finally starting to feel better and with more energy. I have started getting up at 6, instead of 8 (since Monday). What a difference it makes. I have more time and energy to do things. Not to mention the improvement in my mood. Great video Vivi, feel like we’re almost the same person! 😂 on my “to do” list for this year (and it’s a big list) is to go to bed earlier than 3.30am. Like you’ve said, It’s so easy to get into bad habits when you live on your own. I’ve kept a diary since I was 12, I’m trying to get into the habit of writing down 3 good things a day, that’s supposed to reduce stress within two weeks. Also, Far from the madding crowd….one of my faves, I love that dvd. I think you might enjoy Line of Duty, it’s seriously fab. Not too fast paced, unfortunately no beautiful scenery, but it’s one of those “can’t wait for the next episode” series. 🤗

I worked permanent night shift for 15 years as a nurse and that seriously messed up my sleep pattern. I've tried doing morning shifts but I can't fall asleep until 3-4 a.m. and then I would need to get up at 5.30 a.m. I felt unsafe driving to work on so little sleep, let alone holding lives in my hands. These days I work a mixture of afternoon and night shifts which accommodates my insomnia. I can't wait to retire though so that I can try and train myself into sleeping better hours. At the moment the best I can do is to switch off the computer and my phone a couple of hours before bed and do something like reading my book to let my mind calm down before attempting sleep. I fell in love with Shakespeare in my early teens. There was a British production of all his most popular plays and they aired here in NZ every Sunday afternoon. They were true to the bard and the Emma Thompson/Kenneth Branagh adaptation would have slotted into the series seamlessly.

I'm not usually a reader, but my internet went off due to a faulty cable connection, so I pulled out a book by Australian author, Kate Morton, "The Secret Keeper". Set in London primarily, during the WWll Blitz and present day, flashbacks and researching of her mother's past, was not able to put it down. Wonderful characters, intriguing mystery, and twist at the end, I do recommend her to you. I think I will make it a part of my self change for 2025 to read a book a month, as I am busy otherwise. It will offer me some 'quiet transportation' away from the everyday. A first step to self care...lots more to assess and process, lol. Not perfect yet...Thanks, Vivi.
