My dad went to the funeral. If you ever see old footage of people lining the streets as the funeral procession passed, my dad was there. He took a train from New York to Washington. I was 6 years old. The country was devastated. It still is. At least 800,000 people attended.

I knew nothing about this monument. Sadly I bet most Americans do not. I liked her speech. If you see any videos of Prince Philip, you see him paying extra attention to, " John-john." Prince Philip is not known for being warm and fuzzy. But you see him holding John's hand as they walk to the memorial. I saw other clips in the past of Prince Philip giving attention to John. I think he felt badly for a little boy who lost his father. I find those videos touching.

I was a child of 9 when President Kennedy was assinated. News coverage was very avidly watched in my family home as my Father took a great interest in world current affairs. I remember the newsflash coming on tv. My Mother and Father were very shocked by it and i can still recall, all these years later, my Father saying, 'God help us all now that man has gone.' Her Majesty touched on how shocked the British people were about it all and there was 'some despair'. i can concur.. that was the feeling coming from my parents. She, as ever, summed it up beautifully. The gift of this land and the memorial was a touching and fitting tribute to a world leader of much renown and skill.
