My new favorite trail! Thanks for the recommend for our first backpacking trip. I can't believe we missed you!! OMG. We began on 7/1 - Got pushed a week and then...we failed. Overpacked, over-tired, newbs; recovering from pneumonia, etc..etc...wish we had seen you for a high five and some constructive criticism. It is the MOST beautiful, otherworldly place. I would have driven back up to meet you, it's so awesome. Note on not pushing it: Take it slow and easy if recovering from ANYTHING, first trip, sedentary lifestyle or if you feel like it. Enjoy the journey-NOT about the destination eh? Praying for you, Dan. So good to see you and the trail. Blessings, bro.

I'm glad you had a good time! The pictures brought back some very recent memories! We were there the first week on June. Same weather, TONS of skeeters! My pack was 34 lbs!!! I also carried my daughters pack for a bit as well as my wife's at some point or another... toppling the 50lb mark at those times. I'm fortunate that my knees cooperated! At 50, I feel like I'm on borrowed time and want to do this more and more while I still can. This trip was a primer hiking trip for my family, as well as myself. I'm an avid camper, fisherman and bushcrafter but am only now starting to get into hiking. I love it.

That Nitecore NB10000 is a game changer. I have hated so many battery bricks because theyre either huge and heavy or small but take 18 years to charge a phone. Having 20W charging 10k Mah in a 5.29 oz brick is insanity. I bought it instantly 😂

Awesome. I'm not looking for advanced bushcrafting, tactical survival gear peddling, bear hunting and cooking, or all that crazy, extraneous stuff. I just want some light gear tips to go solo hiking for the weekend like the majority of the people. It's amazing how rare it is to find a KZbin acct such as yours as suppose to these fringe (and absolute bonkers) outdoor topics I listed. Cheers and subbed.

Dan Becker. Add to your Sawyer CNOC set up the blue Sawyer coupler and about a foot of light line tied to the top closure of CNOC bag. Lightly screw empty Smartwater bottle to Blue coupler, which is on tight to outflow of Sawyer Squeeze which is tightly secured to CNOC bag, hang from branch. Do something else while gravity filtering your water. Added bonus, less stress on bag, filter and your patience.

PUMP SUGGESTION!!! First, glad you're getting after it again. Love the videos. I'm gonna try one of those pumps out, I like that they can be reversed. Not for vacuum sealing, haha, but to deflate the sleeping pad. I use a shopvac for rafts and pontoons on river trips and the best is using it to suck the air out and get those things nice and flat and ready to transport without sitting on them and rolling them up and sitting some more or just waiting for gravity to do it's job. Anyways, that's what I'd use it for. Keep up the great videos.

I didn't carry the tent but carried everything else for my husband and myself. Maybe that's why I couldn't get my pack weight down any more than I did. Fully loaded with 3 days/2 nights trip, including water/food etc., I weighed my pack at under 19 lbs. I also use my Helinox Chair Zero and Sawyer Squeeze and love them both!

I would be interested in a ''most compact'' gear list, I am sure the light weight stuff is a good starter, but being minimal volume has many advantages too (travel, biking...) would you be able to make a video of a camping gear list with minimal volume in mind? tks

For the backpack, the big question is: Can you get your water bottles in and out of their pockets when you are wearing the backpack!?! I agree that the expensive Durston tent wouldn't be for the new backpacker, but the other durston tent that I own sure is! And the Zflick poles (instead of trekking poles) are excellent!

The CS40 is super appealing to me, as it addresses a lot of the issues I have with HMG packs. But that all-white body is a no go for me. I like having clean gear but I live in the southeast US and that red Georgia clay would wreck that pack almost immediately. Now if they make it in black or if they made the bottom panel and side pockets in black, I’d buy that thing in a heartbeat.

If you're using that flextail with your big Agnes, I make an adapter that lets you inflate your pad hands free! Happy to send you one if you'd like to test it. Makes it a lot more convenient to use. I also make one for Nemo, S2S, Exped, and a few sizes of pocket bellows. And I can probably design one that will depress that flap for deflation.

@@sim5474 Look for UltralightInnovation (one word) adapters. They are a 3D printed design. I've been iterating on them for a few months as feedback comes in on the design. @@flutingaround it is 3D printed! Look for UltralightInnovation (one word) adapters. I've seen some other cool designs as well. One person designed a pommel for the deuce of spades trowel that really transforms it. I had quit using it before because it was so uncomfortable, but the pommel makes it comfortable and adds rigidity. The sleeping pad adapters are similar, it's really nice not having to babysit the pump while I unpack and set up camp. The bellows adapters are also great for campfires. I was out on a cold day with an almost-dead fire a few weeks ago and I just propped the pump up on a rock and drained the rest of the power blowing in the fire so I could be a little warmer the last morning before I headed home.

I appericate that Sawyer does a lot for other countires, but their product is not that great. Everytime I go on a hike or backpacking trip, I have to replace the filters. I always get get sand to go through, after I clean it (and I have done many different ways such as using vinegar, distilled water, and dilluted bleech in various combinations) and allowing the filter to pre-soak before use, I never get water to go through. The Be free filter is the best I have ever used so far.
Cold weather camping gear I should’ve bought sooner 🥶
