ON1 Photo RAW 2023 A to Z

This is the first year that I will try to use On1 instead of Lightroom. But the problem still exists that the healing brush and paint brush a lot of the time lags and slows down. It's very frustrating and never happens to me in Lightroom. I run a high end windows computer and I've always had trouble with ON 1 slowing down with the brushes and healing tool.

I purchased and downloaded the upgrade version but it was giving my RAW photos a red/magenta cast. I’ve reported this to tech support. There is an issue with Sony uncompressed RAW files shot on the Sony a7IV. I’d appreciate if On1 Photo would release a statement to its users about the status of the ongoing problems. I’ve since deleted the new app and reverted back to using On1 Photo Raw 2022.5. I’m not looking for a refund. Fingers crossed an updated new version will release instead.

Be aware there is a show-stopping bug affecting NVIDIA ‘super’ versions of several series of their graphics card. This incompatibility makes the new AI noise and sharpening functions unusable. Apparently ON1 can’t fix the problem until NVIDIA updates their drivers at some unspecified point in the future. That is something that would have been nice to know before committing to a subscription with the annual use meter ticking since last month!

Update on Oct. 16: I hadn't checked the ON1 page on this issue for a few days. I saw there was an update on the page with a link to an updated NVIDIA driver. Downloaded and installed the driver, but sadly the problem with the AI noise and sharpen tools is still with me. I started a trouble ticket with ON1 support. Keep you posted as this develops.

Update on Oct 21st: ON1 posted on the issue web page a link to an older NVIDIA driver (and also suggested in an email in reference to my trouble ticket) that had cured the issue for some users. Initially I resisted going back to an older driver but had some time today to try that strategy. I’m happy to report this driver seems to have cured the AI half blank preview issues with the noise and sharpening function.

I have this bug. The ON1 tech support said with my old NVIDIA video card there is no hope for me that I would ever use the ON1 nonoise ai nor tack sharp ai. Also I have a problem that when I convert my files with any ON1 product there is no information about camera manufacturer, camera model and software in the metadata of the output files. Waiting for the tech support to answer.

Just downloaded the trial and it is pretty great! Much better performance than previous versions I've tried as well (though the auto-presets take a while to process - and no processing indicator makes it a little confusing). I don't think Luminar Neo comes close now. Would love a transform / stretch / skew tool like PS, for straightening out buildings - keystone, etc. don't quite do the trick in the same way.

4:33 - we group all things together. In the previous photo the mountains were not "grouped together" . this looks great but i bought 2022 and didnt use it that much. there's always something that gets me away. Is this 360 friendly? Meaning.. can i do this to a 360 equirect photo and not getting a "seam" on the photo? Write to me if you need examples.

Does the Professional PlugIn bundle include all functions of FotoRAW 2023, i.e. also HDR from multiple images, sky and FocusStacking? Of course, the catalog function is not needed out of Lightroom. FotoRAW could be accessed via "Export" from Lightroom and the PlugIns probably under "Edit in". Would I have to call each PlugIn individually, so create in Lightroom constantly new file, because back in Lightroom each PlugIn "burns in" the change or could I call again the same PlugIn to subsequently adjustment again? -- In FotoRAW I could apply all tools one after the other and export to Lightroom and ... would then have to set extra catalog in FotoRAW so that settings remain reversible ... or can I use selbige folders as in LR ? -- Last question: Can I install the PlugIn bundle or FotoRAW also on 3 of my Mac devices, where I always use only individually? -- Explain no one does so far, but could you help me - thank you!? 👍

It does not include all of the functions of Photo RAW. It includes Resize AI, NoNoise AI, Effects, Portrait AI, and HDR. You would call each plugin individually and it will create a new file so as it does not bake in the changes on the original file. Plugins cannot be fully non-destructive with Lightroom. You can install on up 2 computers, but contact our support team and they can offer a 3rd activation as well.

A very good up grade with lots of extras. Two problems so far. First, when I try to use the Content Aware Crop tool after setting up the crop when I click on the Apply button ON1 crashes. Second, when I hover over a preset the the images flashes the preset then returns to original image. I can't view the preset unless I click on it. I am using Windows 10.

I'm LOVING 2003!! However, I did a really dumb thing (not my first time, nor my last I'm sure - happens when you get old!!) I came back from a trip to Mt Rushmore and somehow 8600 photos NOT related ended in that folder. I'm talking from several categorized folders. Is there an easy way, rather than going through EVERY picture to see if they're still in the folder they're supposed to be (don't want to delete Images I want to save!) I've tried the Smart Organizer (my images are stored on an external hard drive), selecting that hard drive and then chose "Find Duplicates". It doesn't seem to be working the way I thought it would - scan the entire drive, find the duplicates and then the 8600 in the Mt. Rushmore file would vanish! Am I missing something here?

Duplicates can be sorted if the file names are the same. If they are not technically duplicates you can also sort by capture dates, date modified etc in Browse. Check out the user guide for locating those sorting options. Once sorted you could then make a selection of those photos and move them.

So far this new version has let me edit two photos. Since then it's crashed every single time I've opened a photo, whether it's a RAW or a jpeg. I tried rebooting my pc and that didn't fix it. I've gone back to version 2022 and will wait a couple of months for version 2023 bug fixes before I waste any more time with it.

It's likely due to an out of date video card driver (on Windows). Make sure it's also configured to use the full power of your graphic card in the preferences.

What I have found, and I also reported this in the "crash" form that pops up after restarting version 2023, is your version 2023 doesn't like files from the Canon R5, even when they've been downsized to much smaller dimensions. When I open files from cameras I used to own which includes the Canon R6, Fujifilm XT3, Panasonic GH3, pocket cameras and even scanned photos they work fine with version 2023. Files from my Canon R5 (both jpeg and RAW) always cause version 2023 to crash after opening the file in Edit. So it appears to me something needs to be fixed in v2023 to properly handle Canon R5 files.

Every other photo editing software I own or have trialed - On1 2022, Affinity, Capture One 2022, DxO Photolab 6, Luminar AI, the latest versions of Lightroom Classis and Photoshop - all work fine with my Canon R5 files. So something isn't right in On1 v 2023.

I use Photoshop Elements as my main program and use plugins from other programs to enhance my PSE program. I've been able to do this with several programs (Luminar for one). I'm wondering if ON1 can be used as a plugin ? I haven't played with ON1 2023 yet so perhaps it's not necessary to use ON1as plugins - and if it is possible?

very disappointed in the straight up reset button sitting under the export tab, I spent so many hours getting my watermarks and export settings right then it lags and reset gets selected and its all gone just like that =/ Edit: restarting the app did not work. how ever restarting my computer has brought back my ability to load my logos and watermarks. the rest of the settings are still gone. but that's not too much of a big deal to fix from here ! relieved

Problem…..wonder if it’s related to the video driver issue. Trying to use content aware crop…..doing it the exact same way as this video shows….yet upon completion it crashes the program….tried complex….then several simple crops with a plain single white edge, and every time it gets to 100 percent and closes on1 abruptly, with no crop completed. Anyone have similar issues……and or solutions or explanations? One smaller issue or bug, is that my retouch sliders at the top for sizing the healing brush’s, size , feather and opacity for instance don’t show completely, so much so that they cannot be moved without precise mouse position. It’s not a biggie but rather an annoyance. Earlier versions worked fine. Really more concerned about the content aware crop crashing issue, and how to solve.

Die Fotos, die man hier sieht, stammen von Videos, die man als on1-Kunde schon kennt und gesehen hat. Die Bearbeitungsschritte sind dieselben. Interessant finde ich, dass die Software auf einem Mac läuft. Hat man bei Windows-Systemen Bedenken oder Probleme gehabt 😉? Also viel Hype um etwas, was noch nicht zu bekommen ist. Vielleicht morgen. Oder übermorgen…..

I've been using O1 since I was a teen, I'm 43 now. I admit, when I first started using it I pirated it...I coudln't afford it. It wasnt' long though, after getting a job, I made my first purchase, well rather my late grandmother purchased it for me for Christmas (along with one for herself after I introduced her too it) and I haven't missed a release since! I feel bad for those few years I coudln't afford it but I can show my support now and on top of that, I have the photographer here at my work getting On1 as well!

try to remove and reinstall - that often helps If you are on a mac - run a disk repair before installing

Well, after playing with the new version for a day I'm quite impressed. The new AI masking tools aren't always generating a clean mask, but cleaning up a 95% solid mask is a heck of a lot faster than masking from scratch. A couple of my content aware crop tests didn't work well, but most of the others did a really great job. I shoot a lot of handheld HDR and the new "Tack Sharp" has fixed a few images that were a bit too soft to work before. And I'm about to bring over and catalog some hard drives I found from about 2002-2012, and I'm sure AI Metadata tagging is going to save untold hours of time. This is your best update in years! Now, "take the money I spent and buy a second lav mic!" I say in a gently teasing manner. 👍

Try restarting the computer and also make sure your video card drivers are up to date. If that doesn't work, something may have happened during installation so running the installer again may fix it.

Amazing the power of AI, although I’m concerned that future AI software will make it too easy for anyone to create a masterpiece. I will use this fantastic upgrade to explore new vistas beyond what my imagination said can not be done... :)

when you quick selected the sky, it made an error over the church steeple. Maybe for the newbies, you should have show how to paint out the steeple so the sky mask wouldn't cover it.

Hey folks. I know you're aware Nvidia Super video card users are experiencing useless masking and black half preview screens. And the Nvidia Game Ready driver update released Oct 12 2022 didn't resolve any of the problems. May I ask what video card you folks are using? Thanks and hope to see this issues fixed soon. Cheers!

Make sure to grab the latest update just released yesterday. It will resolve this issue.

@@ON1Photo Unfortunately, it didn't help. Fortunately, Lightroom just released an update with similar masking options so I can use LR until your issue is sorted out. But neither the On1 software update, or Nvidia drivers update, resolved the masking issue using the RTX 2060 Super graphics card (which was only release July 2019). The black screen issue was resolved however, now I can see that Tack Sharp AI doesn't work properly either. I performed a clean install removing all previous instances of On1 2023 from my system, including registry files and all folders. And I performed clean installs of both current Nvidia drivers as well. On1 Photo RAW 2022 works well and I continue to use it in my workflow for my final (and only) noise and sharpening. I'll send Nvidia and your techs my system info so they can continue working on trying to resolve this issue. 😮‍💨 BTW, Stevie has a list of compatible Nvidia graphics cards that start with GTX... these cards don't exist.

Both On1 and Nvidia tech support stated neither the recent drivers update nor the On1 update was intended to correct the problem, and they are still working on a resolution.

@@LuckyInLondon Yes and no. The ON1 update did fix it for the majority of customers, but there are still some outliers having the issue. It's our top priority getting this addressed.

@@ON1Photo It's getting there! :) The Nvidia driver update of Oct 27 corrected the masking issue! Yay! Tack Sharp AI still not working properly though, producing a lot of grain. I'm excited though!
