That's upsetting to see, but you're safe, and that's good to know . This is why I always try to take my bikes with me inside any restaurant or store .and I don't care if the personnel gets up set at me .because in the end if it gets damaged or stolen nobody is going to care or pay for my damaged bike so that's why I take it with me where ever I go . Because you can't trust the public outside in streets .unfortunately now at days .

Try layering with base layer, thermal or waffle shirt, hoodie and wind breaker. It works for me and if it gets hot open the zipper on the wind breaker. I have ridden 30s and 40s with that setup body heat and wind balance. Puffer is more for snow and lower temps.

52/17 is a fairly high ratio, might be worth starting off with something lighter. Omniums are alright but if you can get cranks that are the right length (and preferably 144 BCD) you'll be set, you can upgrade later once you get a taste of what you like.

Get Sugino RD2s and a 130 BCD TA Especialities chain ring. This chainring is like 30 bucks and rounder than 90% of the track rings on the market. 1/8th chains are loud and they suck. Don't get Omniums they make a lot of noise and the bottom bracket sucks and only lasts a year, they also don't fit on most frames. Fixie foo parts are a waste of time and money, only buy them if you are young and hanging out with a bunch of knuckleheads that don't know anything and you need their approval for some reason. Remember no real track racers use these popular in the fixed community parts anymore so you are just going to get ripped off on price. If you use road cranks and rings you can save a ton of cash and they make WAY less noise.
