Thank you so much for this offering! I live nearby in Portland, Maine and have been a massive fan of Shania since I was four. I found this interview via Randall’s Instagram (I follow lots of band members old and new) and it’s gold. I’m not a musician but it was fun to geek out over the history of the rehearsals and learn of the high production value Mutt would bring to the recordings and the live shows. The standards and the work ethic these people upheld are incredible to hear about! I’ve seen Shania 7 times since 2013, most recently the Now Tour in 2018 and 2 of her newest Vegas shows in 2019. I grew up loving and watching her concert specials and still watch them all, and there’s nothing like the richness of the old band. The music in her shows now sounds so computerized. It lacks a fullness that her old tours had. Fiddles for sure have less attitude and punch. The actual band is lighter. I can always tell when she’s lip syncing. Cory seems to do a great job as her music director but I guess nothing will be the way it was when Mutt was around. It really makes me miss the old days and wish I were old enough to have seen the concerts in her first two tours. Thanks for making this great conversation happen!

I've been a fan of Randall since early 80's when he played in his own band Avion, saw them many times and it was so cool that he then went on to play with Shania. Been meaning to try and catch him at "Frankies" in Sydney one week but it's a bit hard living 2hrs north in Newcastle and they usually play on a Sunday or Monday night. Great interview!!

This has to be one of my favorite interviews! Randall was always a guitar hero of mine growing up. I recorded the Chicago show from CMT on an old vhs tape! 😂

This was easily the most nuanced conversation I've ever heard about the music of Shania Twain. Thank you both for this.

another awesome interview Jeremy . ..so insightful...love this type of stuff. So little out there about Mutt.... Mutt has the ability to get the very best out of vocalists....be it Bon..Brian..Joe ..Lou Gramm etc.... btw....singing was my livelihood for almost two decades including many stops in Montreal. I am originally from Kapuskasing ...about 90 minutes from Shania's hometown of Timmins ..

Yes. One of the best singers he worked with (briefly) was Andrea Corr with whom he co wrote the Corrs biggest hit “Breathless”. I read somewhere Mutt said Andrea had the best voice in pop.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Not even a true Shania fan, but I found this linked from the Letterman performance. (Which I also thought was a mime) Pretty fascinating all the way through just as a musician, and a big surprise that you're from Kahnawà:ke! I'm from Utah, but in Montréal the last 5 years. So, se:ko from across the river here in Hochelaga, a name distastefully appropriated from the Iroquois settlement. Nice political discussions as well.

Thank you Jeremy for sharing this in-depth interview with Randall. I am fascinated with Mutt Lange - he’s a perfectionist and I love learning anything about how he works. The more details, the better! Can you please tell me what KZbin video Randall is referring to in your chat? I think he recorded a rehearsal of some kind? Thanks!

This podcast was very interesting , overall I liked it , I don't know if I had to laugh about your french quebecer speaking in english but un Tabarn!"/$%$%?$ au lieu de Tabarouette aurait été encore mieux lol . I don't hate you for that 😜 . Quebec city needed a new center maybe not for hockey , but I'm happy to drive 3hrs and go to a concert like Def leppard or Shania Twain , instead of 6hrs drive to go to Montreal .

Not sure why she Even wants to do vegas today. Theres definately a big difference in watching the old concert stuff compared to Vegas. Vegas is a bit " greatest hits" kind of tacky. And she only play few songs from the NOW album. Its a great album. Also i am so sad for her about her voice. She was a great singer with a big voice. I admire her for fighting her way back..it has good moments, but also shaky. Big fan still though
