Found this video after Hurricane Helene in 2024. The entire city is without power, and I was thrilled to be able to use my RV and it's generator. AC wouldn't work. I prayed and found your video. So, at 2:30 am, I flipped that switch and voila, there's AC power. Blessings to you for making these videos ❤

You are the man! Just bought a used Winnebago from C.W. and they showed me everything on the RV while it was hooked to shore power. Generator started great and since I have another RV, I wasn't too worried about it everything seemed normal. Got it home to load some supplies while it was 115 outside (Phoenix) and gennie cranks but no power. checked everything and all was good. Was about to call and cuss out the salesman when I stumbled upon you video and viola, it's all good. Thanks for taking the time to help the rest of us out, even those of us that are mechanically inclined, we still need some help every now and again.

Thanks ! You just saved me a lot of grief driving my RV 70 miles round trip to the repair shop. We just had generator work done because it would not start. They put a new carb on it. We tested before we left the repair shop and gen cranked and ran fine. After getting it home I tried putting the air conditioner on. Nothing. No AC anywhere in the RV. I Googled the symptoms and your video popped up as first on the list. I'd briefly looked for a breaker on the generator but did not find it. Your video showed me exactly where to look on my Onan 4000. I pulled the little switch forward as you said because it was pushed backwards to the rear. Cranked the generator and everything worked inside again. Way to go! Thank you again.

Good video. I would add two things concerning tip #3: (1) the AC breaker switch should be in the up position to allow generated AC to go to your converter in the camper and onto your appliances; (2) once you have the AC breaker in the correct position, let the generator run a few minutes to build up charge to your camper appliances before turning them on. I rushed the procedure, and the appliances (micro wave, refrigerator, air conditioner) would not come on. This led me to believe there was an internal problem with the generator, that something to be more complicated an expensive to correct. It was simply the breaker switch being in the wrong position to start and, then, not letting the charge build up in the generator.
@WJTZMedia4 жыл бұрын
Mine is also an up and down position and I am working on this same problem. I will update once I get to work on it this weekend- I will try your trick of running before I try the power. I think I was trying too soon.

Tip #3 is the winner. For any of you folks who have a situation where the genny’s front panel is difficult to access and remove like mine (I have a Sprinter conversion, and everything is tightly packed), here’s a hack that might work for you. You do have to remove the front panel to do this the first time, but after that, you’re home free. You’ll need a drill, a wire hanger and wire cutters. The genny breaker switch knob has a small hole drilled through it-a perfect size to slide a wire hanger through it. First, I drilled a hole a little bit wider than the diameter of the hanger wire through the genny’s metal housing (just below the bottom edge of the front panel), aligned and level with the breaker switch. Next I cut a piece of wire from the hanger then bent one end 90° then fed that end through the hole I cut and then fed it through the switch hole. I then bent that end just enough so it wouldn’t slide out of the switch hole. Finally I trimmed the “pull” end so that it was long enough for me to pinch when the switch knob is in the furthest rear position (off). This length prevents the wire from being pulled all the way through the hole I drilled. Now I can move the breaker switch back and forth without having to remove the front panel.

Great video. I've been messing with mine on this trip for three days. IMPORTANT TO PAY ATTENTION TO THIS: In my experience, I had reset the breaker on the Onan generator (mine looks exactly like yours, but different model number) with no success. After watching your video, I decided to pull the shorepower and plug my 30 amp into my onboard outlet (so as to provide electricity to my coach), and WITH GENERATOR OFF, I then reset the generator breaker switch. It worked this time. Prior to this, with the generator running and resetting the switch it did not work! Note, too, that the switch is to be pulled toward you...away from you is off on this same type generator as in the video. So happy as it will be 100* while visiting Boston the next couple days and having the generator powering the coach air conditioner will keep my family from killing one another!

Dude! Thank you! You are the man! I looked all over for that switch and you pointed it right out.

This is exactly what I was looking for as a new rv owner I bought a “vintage” motor home and the generator ran but I had no juice I was not aware that the shore power cable needed to be plugged in

Thanks! I changed the oil on my RVQG4000 and inadvertently switch the breaker off when I wiped some spilled oil from the bottom cover. Solution #3 worked!!!

Thanks for this video brother. You just saved me in Buffalo NY. My problem was the breaker switch on the generator. I would have never seen that if it wasn't for your video.

Awesome, the breaker popped on mine for the outlets (GFI), turned off generator and tried to push the breaker back on. No joy. For the life of me I didn’t want to start a fire so then you can turn it off the other direction and something clicked, it had reset. Turned it back to “on” and it caught. Thanks your info was on the money.
