Onboard lap with Cristiano da Matta on the great Road America track. THankfully, both commentators didn't say a word during the whole lap !

da Matta is one of the most underrated drivers in the last 20 years. His career peaked in time when Indy Car and Champ Car were at odds. His F1 drive at Toyota being cut short was a joke. He was better or as good as Castroneves or Kanaan in his day. Opportunity caught him out. He had the same engineer as Kanaan had in Indy lights and pretty much set the car up himself. The man was a legend unsung I can tell you from personal experience. Up there with the greats. The deer at RA just killed it.

The IRL teams who are pushing for the Delta Wing project are talking about 350 hp engines. Ridiculous. I want these old CART turbos back.

It kinda feels like Spa in that it seems like the cars are traveling somewhere, as opposed to just doing laps. I wanna to say F1 should come to this cicuit, but F1 is kinda lame now with the changes they've made recently, except for slick tires; I like those. So I guess too bad F1 before '09 never came here, but with slicks... Whatever. Epic race track.

Champ Car was the best series America ever had. Open wheel racing will never gain huge popularity in the U.S. now. The politicians and rules makers have essentially made it just like NASCAR, but with different cars. Open wheeled cars belong on road courses, not ovals.

What the hell do politicians have to do with it?
@Montgomery_N_Pottichen042 ай бұрын
@@markpatterson7828”sustainability” “global cooling -> global warming” “gas shortage” and if it weren’t for the Clinton administration to have spent more money than they could afford to begin with there wouldn’t have been a reason for downsizing… unless by politicians he’s referring to that absolute cuckold Tony George who insisted on leaving the professional European drivers out of the series and only wanted to race on scam ass ovals like Indy, the Indy oval doesn’t count for creating American Champ Car racing to begin with because the 1st points championship race was in 1905 at Morris Park, the Indy 500 race stared in 1911 and it wasn’t until 1916 that the 1st series race championship was hosted which included the Indy oval and some board tracks. The policies came into play for the IMS which influenced the rest of the contributing elements of the series since the IMS created a majority of the series’ fan base and revenue, Tony George who was president of the IMS at his time compromised his own series through his authority over the Indy Oval which trumped all other American open wheel venues as time progressed and as the newly introduced IRL regulations were not appreciated by their fans they sought to revive their series off of what Champ Car was already doing.

Did anyone see him let up at the kink? Whats up with that. Mansell in the mid nineties didn't lift the foot. Andretti,Jacque Villenueve, Zanardi and Montoya, are the only ones Iv'e seen flat out there.

can some 1 tell me wat type transmission these old F1's have. there a bit different from the new ones.is it like the one's rally cars use?
@TheColinChapman11 жыл бұрын
unfortunately too dangerous. look at 0:08 and at 1:54 - "The Kink" is a 200mph-corner with no run-off-area. As long as the kink stays this way, F1 will never go there. all the other corners would probably do.
@japotak997 жыл бұрын
TheColinChapman there's a chicane before it that F1 could use to slow down the kink.
@orsomethingorno5 жыл бұрын
The problem is not the amount of runoff, it's the oblique angle of the barrier due to what runoff does exist. The best thing to do at a corner like this -- assuming you can't create acres of runoff -- is to bring the barrier right to the track edge on the corner entry, and have it gradually and smoothly move away from the track to the corner exit, where it can use all available space. Add that to a SAFER barrier, F1 would be fine with the kink. Really, it's more of an issue with slower cars -- F1 cars would be so easily flat here, the only issue would ever be with tyre failures.
