Onboard with Robert Kubica - how it works?

He used to rest his left hand, at the side of the cockpit in f1, only used it for hard turns and downshifts, mostly drove with right hand. It’s incredible how he could transfer that muscle memory to from right to left, plus only left, in very short time of proper driving. I hope him long future in f1

im mostly sure that had to do with the f-duct in 2010. Unless u were watching the 2009 and earlier onboards :P

@@Maquenchie Pretty sure it was the F-duct. But shoot, how Kubica still drives in race pace almost entirely with his left hand I have no idea

That last onboard in particular is pretty shocking. He's really not using his right hand at all. If he can deliver in F1 next year, it'll be as close to a miracle as it gets. I'd love to see it happen, but boy, this is a major handicap he's dealing with.

@Random Username There is no handicap anymore. His strong mind took full control over weak body. He was working extremely hard to accommodate to those new conditions.

He did rally stages with this technique and won WRC2. I think F1 cockpit has a lot less of steering wheel movements and as I've seen from onboards he is handling well with both hands. The tight left turns require him to grip the steering wheel from the bottom but I think it's not so extraodrinary - Rosberg did the same in Monaco (there are onboards from 2013 on YT)

I'm well aware of his success in rallying. I love his attitude and grit and his story is really inspiring. He's obviously found a way to compensate for his limitations to some extent, but I fear a couple of tenths a lap may be irreversibly gone compared to his old self. He does have talent to spare, though, so it may well be that he'll still do a great job. Still, I can't help but feel apprehensive.

@@fl45hman yep understandable. I guess it's all in his hands now (no pun intended) to show if he still has it. He always was down to earth, no bullshit kind of a guy so if he says he can do it then I'll just gonna wait and see.

Your'e 100% right, I'm asking myself the same all the time, but stopwatch don't lie. Formula 1 teams surely won't take high risk situations like this so I'm sure he's capable to do it and do it fast and safe. I can only wish him luck and enjoy next f1 season in his performance
