I've been watching Ozark Family Homestead too. She is so good at finding the deals. I have saved a lot of money with Janice. Another one is Adventures with Danno. He keeps an eye on the prices and sales too

I always watch Janice on Ozark Family Homestead my favorite is when she price compares with Walmart prices and shows how much she saves. I mostly shop at Kroger and Schnucks but I'm always looking for the markdown and clearance items especially the meat I occasionally buy meat on sale but never full price. I will occasionally shop at a store called value check they add 10% at the end of the shopping trip the price has to be really good for me to buy anything there. My guess at what you receive at the food pantries is more than $300 value.

I would guess so as well. I was trying to be conservative in that number.

We are maple syrup makers. I understand pure syrup is not in everyone’s budget. You can by pure maple extract and make a syrup alternative that would be healthier than the fake at the store.

I’m trying to do lower carb options, but my blood sugar numbers are really good - mostly under 10. Things like white bread have spiked my blood sugars. I’m not trying white rice yet.
@weepingwillowhomestead8 ай бұрын
Yep, white bread, white potatoes and white rice are some of the worst for raising blood sugar.

I have a question if you don’t mind answering - you mentioned the kids have to go back for leftovers if they’re still hungry but I think I remember I you saying you eat leftovers on one of the weekend days for lunch. Does it ever get to the point where there are no leftovers for that weekend meal? Just curious what your back up is because I love your menu planning ideas & consistency!
@weepingwillowhomestead8 ай бұрын
I try to keep an eye on how many leftovers we have going and adjust how much I make at the end of the week. Especially Saturday's dinner. But there are still times when we get to Sunday lunch and don't have enough. If that happens, I will pull out some other fillers like canned peas, cottege cheese, a package of hotdogs or hard boiled eggs. That usually bulks it up enough to make do. ❤️
@rebeccamiller35478 ай бұрын
That’s a good plan! Your attention to detail is really an inspiration so thank you!

Maybe have your own bee hive if you have property

Unfortunately we have conventional fields on 3 sides of our 2 acres that they spray and would likely kill the bees. 😔

I would recommend walking the perimeter of the stores and look for clearance stickers. My Walmart regularly has whole cold rotisserie chickens for $3.55, for a whole cooked chicken, you can’t get a raw one for that. I just found St. Louis style short ribs for $1.40 a pound. I got 3 packages of chicken legs for 74 cents a pound and large shrimp for about $5 a pound. They also have a baked goods clearance section and their Walmart brand pizzas are pretty cheap on clearance too.
