That koi was what the Japanese call a doitsu sanke. Doitsu means scaleless and sanke is the type of koi with white, red, and black. It was pretty nice and the size makes it worth a bit, but its body shape was not great. Cool fish though!

Huh ok… I guess I was wrong! Makes sense tho. Conformation is a huge part of the manufactured animal culture… I wonder if breeding that with one that has better body shape couldn’t fix that tho. Colors from one parent, shape from the other…

Such a stunning fish. Just because it's a pond, doesnt make it easy, over fished ponds seem to be even kore difficult imo. That said, just caught a huge bass in a tiny retention pond yesterday on 6lb, such a blast!

I've tried sight fishing these giant koi in the LA city ponds so many times and it's impossible to ever get them to even sniff anything other than corn or any other carp bait. I can't believe he ate a swimbait.

Don't know about koi but orange carp seemed to wreck the Bass fishing in our pond.They took over quick.we trapped them in the brook at spawning time and forced them to adjacent pond with few fish in it. didn't seem to help

I'm pretty sure WILD LIFE fished this spot. Anyways that is an absolutely crazy catch on lures, here in Italy we also fish for cyprinids like carp, barbel or chub with lures, we call it "Foss fishing" because it is mostly done in ditches which in Italian are called fossi.

Great video ty. We have a park up here with lakes and big carp and cat fish, however one of the lakes have beautiful koi, but no fishing is allowed in that lake. People just bring bread to feed them..😊
