Reminded me of about 15 years ago we were fishing about 60 miles offshore of Texas around a triple processing platform, when some Vietnamese pulled up in a boat which looked like a longliner's rig. They started deep drop fishing and soon caught about a 10 lb red snapper. Then they threw some chum in the water and attracted a huge raft of Bermuda chubs near the boat. Then they took a large cast net like this one and threw it over the chubs. The net was filled with chubs so they could not pull it up on the boat. No problem. They wrapped the main line around a cathead, used to wench in a big load, and dumped about 200 lbs of fish on the deck. They did one more cast and took off straight offshore toward the edge of the shelf.

Man, you're lucky. As a former Florida commercial fisherman (cast net). You are lucky that you have a bait net left with those 2 river donkeys in it.
@btellez743 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin...question...why are the jacks aka "river donkeys" ? i was trying to look it up and it looks like they are also called "reef donkeys". Just curious as to why. TIA
@kevinscott63933 жыл бұрын
Hey Bleet29, the "reef donkey" are usually Amberjack. What Gabe caught were Jack Cravelle. The reason we call the donkeys is: they are pure muscle. If caught on rod and reel they never give up, not even at the end, even a smaller one around a pound ir two you think you are hooked into something much bigger. The other reason I guess is they can be just as stubborn as a donkey. Hope that helps. Thanks for asking.
