We traveled to Sweetheart creek to fill our freezers full of Sockeye Salmon. This is a trip we make once a year and we catch enough fish in an hour to feed our families for a year. There is only one problem and that is the bears are also fishing for sockeye at the same place. You are literally fishing with the bears.

Awesome. I'm from Ukraine, where we've been at war for three years. Every day, there are missiles, explosions. It's very frightening to live like this. Watching how you enjoy life, it's hard for me to believe that such peace exists in the world. It seems to me that there are no tranquil places left. Thank you for your video. It lifted my spirits.

I'm a newcomer to your channel, and am loving trying to get caught up. My brothers and I fished Sweetheart Creek years ago, and it is so much fun to recall that experience as I watch this video. I stood at the base of the waterfall you can see upstream from where you're casting, fish so thick you felt as though you could walk across the water on their backs. We live in Wyoming, but my wife is from Juneau, and she's beginning to tire of me telling her to pack her things, which I've pretty much done non-stop since finding your channel. Such fun!

So awesome! I was in Mackinac City, Michigan during the Alaskan King Salmon run. I was just camping with some friends but we went into town where the boats and men fishing were and i saw a guy walking with several HUGE salmon on a chain. I yelled over to him and said " you got some!" He said " Sure did...you want one?" Of course i said yes! i got about 10 really big fillets off that Salmon after i got it home. A friend knew someone who processed it for me for a few of the fillets! Was a beautiful thing☺ Good job fellas

Once apon a time I did a bit of part time eel fishing in New Zealand, 1989 to 2008. Few months each summer never more than 6 ton a year (6,000 kg). It fitted in well with the off season for main job trapping fur. Eel fished in very similar types of stream using fyke nets. Some times in waders, often no waders, very selective where I would use the waders as if you fell into a stream like the one shown & they filled with water you could not move in them or swim, like being in a straight jacket in water. Where the men were casting from would be a spot I'd not risk standing in waders! Too dangerous! Had a couple of very close calls in such spots myself. I Slipped in the water in waders. Once with 100 kg of live eels tied to me (in 15 kg mesh bags). Once with a net & net setting tools in hand. If you do that in waders & live like I did you tend to 1) Believe in God 2) Never ever risk a repeat performance! & If I was catching those salmon I would have for sure used the waders in the shallow bits, sure, but taken them off, left the boots on, to do the casting! As to those eels, here in NZ Government regulation has destroyed the commercial eel fishery. No problem to catch a 100 kg a day. But legal regulations make it near impossible to harvest or farm them. It should be a billion dollar farming industry here as we have massive amounts of elvers (unlike the rest of the world) plus heaps of water on our farms with a million farm ponds empty of farmed fish. A heap of free meat (wild pest animals like deer turkey canadan geese possum wallaby). But OUR VERY Different fishing laws; if you throw a cast net over salmon, here in NZ, were we have your King Salmon. Then you would likely go to jail or at the very least pay thousands of dollars in fines for doing so!

I have worked on small tour boats throughout southeast, AK on multiple day’s trips all around Admiralty, chichigof, Baranof islands, prince of Wales, etc… have to say on a clear day Tracy arm or fjords terror are tough to beat yet I have never seen so many humpbacks in one area as just outside of Kake right by five fingers lighthouse! No words for it!😉👍

Yiou presume that we could not watch another minute, but you're wrong, I could have sat and watched all day long! Nothing wrong or boring when the fishing is HOT. Great job guys. Thank you so very much, reminds me of the good ol days out of Montauk. When we fished, and it wat "hot", we couldn't get home till 1am with all the packing out to the Fulton Fish market truck. They sail by midnight, So keep these adventures coming...

@@AnAlaskaHomestead GREAT! Looking forward to it. You have no idea how much I miss Captain Greg and the life we had. I'm sure more is better for us fishers. I could have helped gut and cut. There's a lot of work after the catch. I hope next time you smoke and package so we get in on that too. I have never smoked fish, we either sent it off to the chefs of NYC or sold to local restaurants. Is your limit 35 per household or person? Are you eligible for subsistence status? How much time did it take to get to the fishing grounds, how much was the "nut", the cost of going out?

@@AnAlaskaHomestead It does and pardon my many questions, we considered so many things to make a living at his dream. Things have changed so much am glad he did not get to see how sporties have managed to change the culture. I tried to go fishing here, and decided that I just can't catch and rellease immature fish. Too cruel and pointless. Fish and eat or don't fish at all in my book.

Looks awesome! As unsolicited advice from a feloow sportsman, Invest in one those self inflating life vests. They dont get in the way while you're working and they'll prevent your death should you slip on the wet rocks in waders. There were a couple of shots there where you're throwing the net over the deep hole that were pretty sketch. You're protected against bears. be safe against drowning too. Stay safe and continue living the dream

Wish we were able to fish for King, dog and silver salmon like we use to before 1998 when huge potluck processing ships started catching salmon as bycatch and tossing them 😢overbord just because they weren't directed to catch them. The Yukon River is over 2300 miles long and the head waters where the Canadian Natives no longer fish for them but have them flown in for them. Now we have to depend on AK. Department of Fish and Game donations for the fish we used catch on our own. It's still going on as of today. In the past we use to have four cannerys operating for feeding soldiers during the world war's, but there closed along time now.
