This would have been a duet between Paul McCartney and Freddie Mercury. The two had become friends after Live Aid. When McCartney wrote the song, few people knew that Freddie Mercury had just been diagnosed with AIDS, so he hardly appeared in public anymore and was constantly stalked by the press. Paul McCartney felt bad for Mercury and wrote "Once Upon a Long Ago" with Mercury in his mind. Mercury also got busy with other work, both solo and with Queen, with whom he was preparing a new album to be recorded. He was increasingly bothered by his health. As a result, he no longer had time to work with Paul McCartney, so an understanding but disappointed McCartney continued the project and recorded the song alone.
This is one of my favorite christmas songs from when I was a little girl. Sebas As you know, I have also always known you were out there somewhere and this reminded me of you. The scenes are from the movie, Santa Clause The Movie 1985 and from the video of this song by Paul McCartney.
