Once Upon a Time in the West was my Dad's favourite movie, said the music deserved an Amen at the end. He was a 1st day Iwo Jima vet, full campaign, never the same. I rarely saw him, he drove a cab 3 hours from me and my mother. Morricone was a genius.

This Morricone theme has moved me since I've first heard it...This version is basically flawless, and Claudia Couwenbergh has rare ability to hold that beautiful note through the change, at 1:12, she holds it! Most other singers break for a breath at that spot, compare, even the incomparable Susanna Rigacci has to pause for breath there! IMHO this is the way it should be sung, and echoes the original version as I recall it! Absolutely haunting and stirring, a heavenly composition from a Master!

I saw this film in its original release and appreciated it as a good western with Henry Fonda as the most villainous character ever. As the years have passed, I’ve come to love the work of Sergio Leone the masterful creator of the best western ever filmed, in my opinion and, of course Morricone’s masterpiece of a score. I’m so glad he lived long enough to be acknowledged by the MPSAA with his second Oscar for his many fantastic film scores.
