Regarding your question, it is also my question why Sony switches to FreeBSD. There are some suggested answers in various forums, but I think that all are by reasonably guessing.

For PS2 Slim, it is not only no facility to mount hdd, but also its BIOS has blocked any inclusion of other OS. Therefore, to my understand, it is impossible to install Linux for PS2 slim.

Hi, Thanks for your messages... Actually, I start collecting the full sets in piece-by-piece some years ago. Some of them were very very expensive because of by bidding. The total cost for both PS2 and PS3 sets is over USD 2500 (it looks very crazy).
