I see your mother as a true hero Dana, when I become a father let’s just say that after the first time a guy harms my daughter they’ll get black and blue. Your mom is a true and amazing woman. If I could I’d buy a poster with her on it!

Read the book 4 times and loved the movie. This story of real life terror and abuse I've seen with all my aunt's, mother and grandmother. To Francine R.I.P. ❤️ To her children, I'm glad you got out and are safe.

This was hard to listen to. I kept wincing. "Francine spent twelve years in hell, eight months in jail, and now she was free." Thank goodness. What an awful thing to endure over and over.

When my mother tried to divorce my father, the law in our state required partners to live separately for a year before the divorce would be granted. My father, asshole that he was, simply refused to leave or allow her to leave. It was a long, horrible process that only intensified the unhappy abusive situation that we were all living in. People don't think about how laws like this not only hinder an abuse victim from getting away, but may actually intensify the abuse. This was in the 90's. I can only hope that crap has since changed.

Francine isn't the only abused wife driven to kill her husband to end the abuse. I'm glad she got off, but others in her situation have served jail time.

I once read an interview with a lady who murdered her abusive husband, went to jail for it but fortunately she was sent to a country club prison, and said she found her jail life a luxury!

Farrah Fawcett's performance was extraordinary. She was either an unknown serious good actor..and/or she had personal knowledge of domestic violence.

I read a letter that Farrah wrote to my mother, Francine Hughes, and she actually said that it was very hard and very traumatizing for her to do the movie. Did not have any experience as an abused person. And yes she did do an amazing job portraying my mother.

I wonder what made Mickey so abusive - besides being possessive - and if anything in his childhood was part of it. His parents certainly were; they kept making excuses for his abusive conduct, which could only have made it worse. It could be they spoiled him.

MICKEY HUGHES WAS NO SAINT OR CHOIR BOY BUT AS MUCH I HATE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE BETWEEN HUSBANDS & WIVES MICKEY WAS STILL THE FATHER OF FRANCINE'S FOUR CHILDREN! ITS ASHAMED THAT FRANCINE HAD TO KILL THE FATHER OF HER 4 CHILDREN & MICKEY'S PARENTS WERE NOT MUCH BETTER IN HOW THEY RAISED HIM & HIS BRROTHERS, IF FRANCINE HAD MORE MALE FAMILY MEMBERS THEN HER BROTHERS, UNCLES & DAD WOULD HAVE DEALT WITH MICKEY

Mickey may have been the father of the four children, but he wasn't a fit father. He abused them too, and they watched in terror while he abused their mother.
