George was on fire on Let It Be/Get Back. His lead on Don't Let Me Down was freaking elegant, and the "bassline" on Two Of Us as well. So much for forgetting how to play the guitar due to playing the sitar for too long.

Just finished rewatching "Get Back" last night 😊Comparing Paul's bass and George's lead guitar in the rooftop performance to their 1960 and 1963 versions shows just how far their musicianship improved over time! George was not a virtuosic soloist, but he nailed this one!

Aww, Sam...you made my morning....thank you, thank you! I've always loved this one since I was a child. I just always loved the energy and the sheer fun and joy of the rooftop version. The whooping howl that Paul gives when George is soloing always puts a smile on my face. They froze their butts off up there and regardless, they put in over 110 percent You did this with such justice and integrity.

Doesnt george mess up the intro riff by playing it 2 frets down first? Its really quick but its there! You can tell because John and Georges guitars do not match for the first bend but george fixes his mistake then you can hear both guitars in sync together
@sampopkin10 ай бұрын
You can see in the movie George plays it up at the 7th fret. I think what you're hearing is one of them bending the D note up to a major third Eb. While the other stays on D. Very dissonant

Great work, mate! One of my all-time favourite Beatles’ songs! I love the fact they started it many years earlier but it gets a real boost in their revisit. Quick question: Do you think it sounds like George is using the bridge pickup for the first 12-13 seconds, before switching to the bridge? I only ask because I must’ve listened to isolated tracks of this song hundreds of times and, when ‘Get Back: The Rooftop Performance’ album was released a while back, you get to hear some of the buildup and chatter before the recording (Track 5). I have a couple of rosewood teles and, to my (albeit amateur) ear, I feel certain he starts on the neck pickup before undoubtedly switching to, and remaining on, the biting bridge pickup. I know this sounds like next-level pickiness but I just wanted to get your opinion on it. Have a listen and see what you reckon…
@sampopkin10 ай бұрын
In the get back movie you can see George start on middle position before switching to bridge. Not picky! I’m the same way- I want to know as many little details as possible

Were you able to see how high they had the EQ on the amps? With tube amps, the more you dial in, the more they tend to crank. And George's is particularly high in treble, which the distorted sound is usually a product of?
@sampopkin10 ай бұрын
Yeah that’s a good point, also having the bright switch on can produce more overtones. I have never been able to discern their knob settings on the twins. But I do have Paul’s bassman knob numbers…
@elirosen139110 ай бұрын
@@sampopkin there must be at least one photo where you can make our the levels on the Twins. Also, on the original recording, you can hear John play the opening chord on the wrong fret. Did they correct that on future recordings.

an absolutely wonderful recreation of all the nuances of the original performance so it pains me to say it but - you forgot george's mistake at the very beginning of the song where he accidentally played the opening lick at the 5th fret instead of the 7th fret! (I'm pretty sure you covered just george's guitar part for this one, a while back, and did include that mistake in the intro, which is possibly how I know that's what it is!)

Regarding the twins. I know you said you don’t know exactly why but do you have any guesses/speculations on why their twins were so dirty? Ive had 2 twins (one with original cts speakers and one with Jensen c12s) and have cranked them both getting no where near this much distortion.
@sampopkin10 ай бұрын
I’m really not sure, even my pro reverb which is 40 watts doesn’t crunch like that when cranked. There’s a theory from a former fender employee that these amps they had on the roof were prototype UK import silverfaces with a different circuit altogether. It remains a mystery!
