I love this video the same way I love all your videos, Sam! You truly are a gift to all us beatle enthusiasts. While there's no lack of beatle covers on the world wide web you *always* manage to put in that extra effort making even the most hardcore beatle veteran teary eyed. Now for my question. I've read that Johns dominating guitarpart on this song is a direct result of George's temporary retirement from the band. Do you support this argument? Do you think, if George never left, he would have written a lead part himself? How do you think the song would have done had there never been the John lead we all know and love? Ps. Long post but it's my first comment so i had to cram it all in somehow;) bless u!

Thanks for the kind words! I don’t believe blindly that George was left to play rhythm begrudgingly. George was playing with The Band in Woodstock two months earlier, even going as far as to say that he loved seeing a band play simple parts as a cohesive unit. Look at his contribution to Delaney And Bonnie later in 69. He was happy to play backup. Classic George letting the ego take a backseat for the sake of music

I don't know why but I like the sound of muted strings. It's kinda like how I always had this weird obsession of the Rickenbacker 4001/4003 because of its tone, but also the kerplunk sound it creates when you engage the mutes

George, by carefully muffling many of the chords, and letting others ring out, converted much of his guitar work into a percussion instrument that enhanced the tune.
@goodpeopleoftheworlduniteКүн бұрын
And to think that the band had to fumble over this 2 chord vamp for a long month, while passing on a bucketload of George's best songs. 🤷♂️ It's a decent little song, but i really felt for George when I watched the Let it be documentary. Paul was the real yoko.

When I first heard the album version, I always thought it was recorded on the rooftop. The false applause and "audition" speech certainly fooled me into thinking so.

George was a great rhythm guitarist. He could play both lead and rhythm in the same song. His rhythm playing, combined with Ringo's galloping drum beat, create that funky groove in "Get Back."

From what I know because he had temporarily parted from the band his part was reduced to a background rhythm. At the same time, John wrote the main riffs and solos. Nevertheless, it adds a fun groove to the song that complements really well John's playing.
@sampopkinКүн бұрын
I’m not sure if that’s true or myth. George was happy to let John play lead on yer blues, I want you, etc. George’s style at this time was inspired by Robbie Robertson of the Band who loved to keep it simple when necessary
@SceneComparisonsКүн бұрын
wrong he was there since the inception of this song it was a deliberate choice from the band

@@sampopkinHey I could be wrong, I wasn't working at Twickenham or Abbey Road studios hearing whispers and confidence like some self-proclaimed experts seemed to have done. However, If you watch the movie ”Let it be”, there a sequence where he doesn't show up and Paul and John almost have to beg to bring him back. In the Beatles Anthology movie, he refers to it as ”the winter of discontent with the Beatles”. George wasn't exactly thrilled to be a Beatles by then as a matter of fact, he was pretty bored and likely was there mainly for the money as Frank Zappa puts it on a Sgt. Peper parody album. He said himself it was no longer fun to be a Beatles and started hanging out with Clapton. He refers also to this period as ”hard labor”. You can see he does his riffs struggling on his corner without much interaction. As he said himself ”John and Paul were too busy being John and Paul”.. The same thing happened with ”I me mine” John never played on it, he had left by this time as we all know he would never come back.
