I rediscovered this gel a couple months ago and LOVED it!. I typically top mine w/ Wetline to give me a full week w/o restyling. As always, great content!! Can't wait for the base study.

It actually looks really good. More like day 3 or 4 of your usual wash n go, but it’s giving carefree and fluffy while still having definition. It’s a little too expensive, for me, though and when I tried it years ago with the leave-in, it flaked. Beautiful definition, but flaking is a dealbreaker.

I think the curl maker does give good definition but it lacks in hold and very very easily becomes a sticky mess . I prefer it to uncle funky’s though but just like ufd I cannot use it as a stand alone. I used to use it under wetline when I was still a wetline girlie. I’ve tried it under jelloshot , didn’t quite get my ratios right and was left with sticky hair . For the summer in this Fl humidity though I’m sticking to the Camille Rose coconut water leave in conditioner under jelloshot . I’m excited to see how the curl maker works as a one and done styler for you! Thanks for sharing !

Hi, I know I'm a bit late to your video, but finally, yes! Thank you for comparing CRCM to UFD. I'm just waiting for 'someone' to use it with IICH and do a comparison there. Hint hint 😉 By the way, another very similar gel / jelly to AIA, UFD and CRCM is Curling Potion Defining & Styling Gel. I first saw this gel on YT years ago, but I live in the UK and it wasn't readily available. But 🎉 to me, I've just bought some in my black Friday haul. I've been trying your base gel technique, although I do still use Paul Mitchell The Conditioner because I love how it foams, feels in my hair and gives my hair some form. I also use CRCM as a base, but I water it down, it reduces the stickiness and risk of those 'gum balls'. If you know, you know!

I'm still new to UFD since I previously favored the Kinky Curly system. However, I noted just like you that there doesn't seem to be any obvious holding ingredient in UFD. It obviously provides hold for some tho.

This gel looks good on your hair on its own. But I hear you on the stronger hold gel to top it off.

I don’t get any hold from UFD either. I use it as a base for moisture. I may try this gel in the same manner, but in a pump, lol.

I have thick,coarse hair and I feel like all of the As I Am products just sink in my hair to the point I go through a full jar of the curl smoothie each wash and go 😕 idk if im looking for a certain result or not using it correctly . One time I tried the 8oz deep condish and when i tell you two sections of my hair (had it split into quadrants) finished the whole jar i was pissed 😂 the leave in does the same thing , the curl jelly was ok but like you said i need more than that to hold me down! Lol

In my opinion, the kinky curly system is the combo to beat for a soft hold wash and go. Curly magic gave me no hold, and is very finicky. I haven't found many products that are a one-in-done solution other than a few Mousse's. How would you rate this one-in-done to a kinky curly set?

Of course Kinky-Curly has more definition and hold. However, they don’t really compare as the Kinky Curly system is a combo and I used this gel alone but with the intention of comboing it as well.

I can definitely see having to use a lot! For the future, I can’t see myself continuing to use it from the jar.
