One Belt One Road or One Sea One Temple: The Historical Transformation of Temples and Association Networks in Singapore and Southeast Asia
Chinese temples and regional and clan associations played key roles in the 19th century in establishing trade and business trust networks. Yale-NUS College Professor of Humanities (Chinese Studies) and Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple Professor Kenneth Dean shared about the historical transformation of these temples and and clan associations in the region and explored their past, present, and future roles. The talk was moderated by Dr Jack Meng-Tat Chia, Assistant Professor of History and Religious Studies, National University of Singapore.
