One Church Plan could unite “our broad and diverse denomination.”

The Rev. Tom Berlin, lead pastor of Floris United Methodist Church in Herndon, Virginia, was a member of the Commission on a Way Forward and submitted the One Church Plan legislation to General Conference. He said the plan provides a place of unity for the variety of theological viewpoints present within today’s United Methodist Church.
Berlin spoke with UM News as part of “Seeing a Way Forward,” a video series featuring different perspectives of church leaders on the work of the Commission on a Way Forward.

I would agree with all of this. I support everything mentioned here. I think the One Church Plan gives us a way forward. I believe with all my heart that we can no longer discriminate against the LGBT community, but I'm also aware that my aging church is not quite ready for that path. We need to be able to have an open discussion about what Christ is calling us to do in this matter. We haven't been able to have that discussion yet because of the church's closed-door policies. My husband and I would both like to be a part of whatever we need to do to create more empathy and love in our church. I was remembering with so much sorrow how our church used to be, not even that long ago. We had four or five children's Sunday school classes with 15-20 children each. In the summer, Vacation Bible School would bring in hundreds of children. It tool both our high school and middle school youth groups and a team of volunteers to lead it. Today, we can barely support a summer program with the lack of church members and volunteers. Our church is dying, and I think a large part of it is LGBT discrimination.

Tom Berlin... Jesus said... and didn't mince words, "You must be born again" and this is directly linked to the corresponding statements He made about "working the works of God" when He responded, " “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” and praying to the Father He said, "And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." but you appear to be a professional "religious" person like the Pharisees only worse, because you would reject the Holy Scriptures.

Traditionalists can leave UMC and still follow Christ by becoming Biblical Christians. No denomination needed to worship God and follow his word, any where at any time.
