Been avoiding the piano roll in Reaper but it's time now, to start using it. Very helpful especially the grid changing. And the scale and chord add in is the bomb.

Excellent tip kenny! This is almost how fl studio midi editor works, but in fl it remembers the length of the last note written. Is there a way to make it more like that?

Thanks for the great video kenny. But i’m wondering how to use microtonal setting in reaper midi note these days. Do you know how to do it?
@sebastianvallejoperez9754 Жыл бұрын
There is no way of inserting microtonal notes. The way to do it is finding a plugin that allows microtonal tuning (vital has it on the advance settings), and creating a .tun or scala file on another program like sevish scale workshop. There you can assign different tuning values to midi notes which then translate through the plugin. However the notes in reaper don't change, just the pitch that comes out. I teach about microtonal music and composition if you are interested.
@Shineequlity Жыл бұрын
@@sebastianvallejoperez9754 Sevish scale workshop is a website right? Btw ‘Full keyboard microtuning’ in a plugin which support it is not possible just with only .scl file? I read ‘list of microtonal plugin’ at Xenharmonic Wiki, it says it is ‘possible via .scl/.kbm pairs.(but not .scl support on its on)’. I didnt get what this means.

Nice video. The track and percussion programmation sound great ! The playback sound seems to be offbeat with the MIDI notes by an 8th note (though the sound is ok when you insert notes).

2:55 Is there a way to save the new order as a preset? If not, is there even an Action that does this? This would be very useful since there are a lot of virtual instruments that have articulations split up below and above the playable keys; it would be great to group them all in one place. But it will only be useful if this new order can be saved as a preset (or created as part of a custom action).
@dathioz Жыл бұрын
Save the named notes, it will also contain the order of the notes ... alternatively create a template as a startingpoint
@Hocus_Tokus Жыл бұрын
File > Notes/CC names > Save/Load note CC names (right click in the blank space above keys/note rows to display this menu). The actions are available in action list. Guess it might be possible to save distinct custom Note names files with each VST track template ?
@antonm_ Жыл бұрын
@@Hocus_Tokus Yeah, I already have a bunch of saved note names for each of the VST instruments that I regularly use, but it does not care about the order of the note names. I also have custom actions that load the note names for a particular instrument and add/remove CC lanes. And these actions mapped to a radial menu. It would be nice if either the order can be saved in the note name text file, or add "move named note" actions to my custom actions. But yeah, same as you, the only workaround I can think of is to save the note names and the order by saving it as a track template. Quite restrictive. Hopefully that can be addressed in the future.
@Hocus_Tokus Жыл бұрын
@@antonm_ Thanks. I thought named note order was saved in the custom name notes files.
@antonm_ Жыл бұрын
@@dathioz I actually tried reordering the note names in the text file (ie. Note 122 placed after Note 0 in the file --- typically the values are in descending order), and it did not work. EDIT: A specific case that I tried this on is with my note names for the Umansky Bass VST. The "Force String" key switches are at the top, after all the playable notes, while the articulations (ie. Slap, Pop, etc.) are at the bottom, before the playable notes. I moved the "Force String" note names (122 to 127) at the bottom of the file (before the articulations - 0 to 16).

Have the editing mouse buttons changed over time? I'm using reaper for about a decade, and I create midi notes by single klicking or klicking and draging, and delete by right clicking. As far as I remember, I never changed this?

Hi Kenny , the problem with Key Scale option, is that when you copy an item, it does not stays ticked in the new iteration. So, almost every time I forget to check it in the copy, and move the notes , until I notice that Ihave to check it again. Which is very annoying.It is weird that the copy, is not the same as the original. That said, I love reaper, and admire the work behind and around it. When I use this DAW, it feels that there is always, some sort setting, tweak, or action, (like a magic spell ) that will make every technic possible. Thank you very much for your priceless and numerous tutorials. There are so many subjects treated , that I'm sure I can find " how is called, the mouse shadow in the second moon" . For another movie reference : Thank Master Kenny Jedi .
