Mr. Basilio, just watched all your videos, you are a fine woodsmith young man. I have built furniture for over 50 years and your work is outstanding. Comment, please be very careful when running your work back across table saw. Keep up your craft sir, great work.

Thank you, William. Truly appreciate the comment - especially from someone with 50 years of experience! And I also appreciate your concerns, knowing it also comes from that experience!

I know a lot of people have done it but I’d love to watch your sharpening process since you seem to somewhat over do it from the pictures on your ig. Amazing work btw.

7:21 I see you commenced the blood sacrifice that must be fulfilled with every project! XD
@RPBasilio

Haha, believe it or not, this was one of the few projects where I didn’t bleed 🩸. That red was from a pencil that eventually sanded off. I’ll make up for the lack of blood on the next project 😂

Was one of your chisels too sharp? Looked like I saw some blood on that BE maple. Nice project. BTW what is the advantage of using the Shawn Shim over just scoring the pins with the tail board?
@RPBasilio
@RPBasilio Жыл бұрын
Haha - although I have sliced my hands many times with my chisels, this project was one of the rare occasions I didn't. The red was from a grease pencil marking from the sawyer. And for the Shawn Shim, I have done pin boards both ways, but like not having to guess which side of the line to cut on (I still make this mistake). The shim makes easy work of that. Thanks!!

The Shawn Shim? Is that the brass cube with numbers? Could you explain that briefly and if you go over it in another video, please let me know and I’ll go search your past ones. Thank you. Have never seen or heard of it and the concept. I enjoyed your build and inspiration.

@@ericerf6837 rob Cosman has a video explaining it. It accounts for the kerf of the saw blade when marking your pins by offsetting the tail board.

@@crashkg oh cool. Thanks for the answer. I’ll go take a look. Do you use it as well and find it helps?

I don't have one, but I tend to make more mistakes with too many gadgets and faff to keep track of. The more items you can misuse the more chance for error. The one thing I won't skimp on is marking up my pieces. @@ericerf6837
