what you referred to as the turkish part of cyprus is the illigaly occupied part of cyprus and that's the way you should refer to it to avoid supporting the turkish propaganda and misinforming the people that dont know.. The Turkish army violently forced a third of the island's Greek population from their homes in the occupied North, preventing their return and settling dirty turks from the mainland, ethnic cleansing. Also, as a result of the invasion, over 2000 Greek-Cypriot prisoners of war were taken to Turkey and detained in Turkish prisons. Some of them were not released and are still missing Since 1974, at least 55 churches have been converted into mosques and another 50 churches and monasteries have been converted into stables, stores, hostels, or museums, or have been demolished.

I hear what you're saying but to actually say in my videos "the illegally occupied part of Cyprus" would be taking a political position on an issue that I don't know much about. I've learned the basics but it's complicating and it's not the focus of my videos to go into the politics in-depth. So I'm just referring to it as Turkish to get the basic point across that Turkish people live there as differentiated from the Greeks in the south. It's a sad situation. At the restaurant in Paphos where I showed the prices in my video "How expensive is Cyprus" there was a story on their menu telling how they came to Paphos. They were from Famagusta and were forced out in 1974 and fled and ended up in Paphos.

its a crime not about politics..

So, it sounds similar to what happened to the Armenians? I heard that those people were just about wiped out completely. It's understandable though that Gabriel doesn't want or need to get into political discussions--his job is to do interesting travel videos--which he does so well. He doesn't have the time for political debate. However, I thank you spyro-for your explanation...because I was kind of wondering what happened, and why the country is divided.

I am a Turkish Cypriot living in Northern Cyprus and most Turkish Cypriots including me would agree with you about the Turkish army occupying the northern part of the island. However, we(Turkish Cypriots) have every right to be citizens of Cyprus. My parents were citizens of Republic of Cyprus before the island was divided and my mom was living in the Greek side town called Mari but forced to leave her home. While writing all these stuff you seem to forget that the main conflict started because mainly Greeks and some Greek Cypriots wanted make the whole island Greek by killing or forcing the Turkish Cypriots out of the island. At that point Turkey had all the rights to interfere in war because Turkey, Greece and the UK were the guarantor states.(If you need more info about this check this out: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Guarantee_(1960) ). However, as I said before they have no rights to still keep their forces on the island and most of the Turkish Cypriots have negative opinions about Turkey because Turkish people keep coming to the northern part and spreading like a tumor. I don't understand why Greeks and Turks have this pissing contest between them, I know there were many conflicts between them in the past but this shouldn't affect the relations between them/us now. Also, I don't have any problems with Greek Cypriots and consider them and myself as Cypriots not Greek Cypriots or Turkish Cypriots.
@PGproductionsHD
@PGproductionsHD 6 жыл бұрын
Berk Topcu Frankly for you, your opinion on this matter is completely unsignificant since your whole "goverment" is fake, recognised by no one but the Turkish "people". You have no right to be a citizen here since you very clearly don't belong here. Turkish "Cypriots" belong in Turkey and Greek Cypriot belong in Cyprus, very simply put so your under developed mind can comprehend it.

Trodos in the Mountains looked so beautiful even in the "snow storm" you encountered. The lunch of souvlaki that you enjoyed including the small "Greek salad" included for $9.50 was amazing. Love the prices and the "atmosphere" of Cyprus from the Sea to the Mountains...unpretentious, down to earth and majestic in it's natural beauty....doesn't get much better than that....

Wow...Cyprus as you filmed it so well....looks like a great place for, as you would say, Gabriel...a "cool vacation"...Yes! Not overpriced like the French and Italian Riviera or even some of the Greek Island "hot spots" like Crete; but so reasonably priced for just untarnished natural beauty. Even during the "high Season", I can see that Cyprus would still be relaxing and not "over-run" with tacky "junk kiosks" and agressive vendors on the waterfront. Thank you for such an informative and well-filmed array of videos of Cyprus.......Can't wait to visit...

Just as you turn towards Avdimou, if you had turned right and then left further on, up the mountains you would have found my lovely OLIVE FARM RETREAT BED AND BREAKFAST, in a village not often marked on maps called Sterkavou (Half way up towards Kivides. Lovely high panoramic sea views and rural (only 6 residents and lots of goats farms!) Check it out on Airbnb if you come again. Very good prices with a pool (far cheaper than the apartments and very private farmhouse with lots of wildlife and tranquil. Glad you liked Omodos (but you need to go in the summer when there is a good village vibe). Also there you went past Socrates house (sign says this in the vlog where you saw wines in a row outside) - when his house is open (free to visit) he shows you inside and it is left as the original house would have been with loom, old documents etc. A must to visit. Best wishes.

Right now I'm on the Turkish side of Cyprus. Everything is cheaper on the Turkish side, but everything seems to be rather rundown. I'm having fun here, but will visit the Greek side next. It's interesting to compare ❤

Loved this video, only wish it had been longer!! Makes me want to travel there in February. Perfect weather for me. I'm going to finish any videos you have on this area during your 2018 visit and then see how Jerusalem is, since you mentioned you had just been there!!

Ezra Cyprus is a very safe and clean country. It 's peak holiday season is between May -September and it s particularly hot ( over 35 ° C ). Beaches are lovely in Larnaca, limassol, Pafos but the best beaches are located in Protaras and Ayia Napa. It gets more quiet in October - November and weather is more pleasant. Mountains are spectacular and villages very charming too.

Gabe, it's nice to see your editing improve and channel grow. It looks like your recent growth has coincided with your step up in effort with the new cam and conscious editing. Looks like your making some more money from it now, never seen you rent a car before ;)

That nissan note is identical to the one I had there. I was initially confused driving there as they drive on the left like the UK (where I'm from) but I didnt realise they used KPH instead of MPH for a while.

What you read wasn't referencing the the invasion, coop and general conflict between Greek and Turkish Cypriots. That started afte 1963. In 1821 Cyprus was still under ottoman rule like Greece. In 1821 Greek people revolted against the Turks to become independent. Because the Turks did not want the Greek Cypriots to revolt as well, they beheaded and hang priests and monks all around Cyprus as a "warning" to Cypriots as well as pay back for what was happening in Greece because the war in Greece was started and supported by the Greek church

Yes, although I don't remember what exactly I said in the video. I do know the history is very complicated and little known by most of the world. I did my best to learn a bit about it in my short time there, but it was undoubtedly cursory.
