Join us as we arrive in Dublin Ireland!
Make sure you catch our tips at the start for a few ways to help your car rental go smoother than ours did! You will need a letter from your insurance carrier, or credit card company showing that they include coverage in Ireland. If you cant provide that, you will need to purchse supplementary insurance through the rental car company. Some people talk about how they have never encountered this, but it may be that the extra coverage is already included in their rental.
Our first night in we got checked into the Malaga hotel on the outskirts of town so that we had somewhere quiet with room for all 5 of us! We took a stroll around town to prep for our only full day in the city. It's one of our favorite things to do in any new city, wandering and enjoying and adjusting on our first night.
Our full day in Dublin started off with parking at Jervis Shoppinc Center. It is the best place to park in the city for the day at only 13 Euro. A quick walk from there lead us through the edge of the italian district where we picked up coffee and made our way to the Dublin Castle. The castle includes a self guided tour option or you can pay an extra few euro for the guided tour, but we loved going at our own pace so we did the self guided tour. The booklet they give you at the enterance makes being your own tour guide so very easy.
After the Dublin Castle, take a meander past the cathedral attached to the castles Medieval tower and find yourself at the grounds of the Chester Beatty Museum. The entry is free and holds some marvelous works from around the world. Incredible collection of rare books and scrolls, galleries dedicated to the religions of the world and even art activities for the kids.
Our next walk took us to Grafton Street. This is the busiest place to walk in Dublin outside of Temple Bar at night when its time for a drink. On Grafton street we saw performers, great shopping and grabbed ourselves a little lunch before heading to the Museum of Natural History and Anthropology. We loved seeing the Bog Mummies of Ireland and the Viking collection as well.
We always love a stroll through the local park and that wrapped a full day of exploring Dublin.
We know the tour we did of the city missed things like distillery tours and cathedrals, you will find those on every other travel advice for the city so we hoped this helped you find something new!
