I love how the younger monks care for those older. This is how the world should be, and was, but sadly... no more. Selfishness and impatience have done in common courtesy and politeness for one' elders. May God bless every single monk within these walls, and many more. A blessing for the world whom is completely ignorant of them, but men whom well may save Your soul from the depths of heck!

A learned and pious man once told me there are blessings in whatever you do so long as it is done with a good intention. Be the best engineer or doctor or mechanic or driver or garbage collector. Do your job honestly and diligently. If you sweep the streets with the intention of keeping it clean and hygienic for the common good, you will be blessed. If you seclude yourself in religious activities as an example of piety and influencer, you will be blessed. If you drive a taxi and carry your customer safely, you will be blessed. Doctors and nurses have abundant opportunities to receive blessings. Every living being has an equal role to play in disseminating goodness. The apportionment of blessings are equally distributed. Collectively that’s the rhythm of life. Repeat, do the best at what you are doing with sincere and good intentions, you will be blessed by God in His unlimited Compassion and Mercy.

God created all life and everything in the universe where time has no beginning nor end and distances are measured in the trillions of light years. Every single creation has a role in God’s grand scheme. The mysteries are unfolding. If you are monastery bound, so be it, if you are a doctor in a village, so be it. Just do a good job and set a good example in whatever you are doing. There are blessings in everything good that one does. The ultimate aim is to please God. And you can do that from any position.

Do you know how to contact them for vocation inquiry sir?
... aside from the music and all the fine words the life for monks in the monastery is probably not as easy as it is portrayed .. the act of getting along with one another and tolerating various personalities must be a challenge .. like a marriage multiplied ...
@jamesbonomo1676 жыл бұрын
I was a Franciscan Friar for 7 yrs. it was a beautiful experience, but hard in that, like marriage, one has to compromise, swallow ego, own up to selfishness. Likes and dislikes. Those were the most important years of my life.
@isaiahfootnote85346 жыл бұрын
"like marriage"? No, not at all like marriage. Utterly different. Marriage is not of the same calibre as a life in which all is to be renounced. The comparison demeans the religious life.

@@seanprater8322 you can "suspect" all you like, but the clue is in the term "monk" (if you the meaning and derivation of such a term)... which doesn't in ANY way lend itself to a false equivalence with marriage. You (and the vapid commentator of this video) obviously know little about marriage or monastic vocation.

So many young men - great to see it. In Ireland here we have very few vocations. Was in a monastery recently the youngest monk was in his 60s.

I visited a monastery in the Orkney Islands off the north coast of Scotland and they are a traditional community who only returned into communion with Rome a few years ago. They are struggling with room as they have many young men wanting to join them. It seems the extreme traditional orders are very healthy in vocations. Makes you wonder.

I was a Franciscan Friar in a monastery for 7 yrs. It is like any relational living situation likes, dislikes, arguments, forgiveness, joy in sharing, hardship with selfish ego. The difference is that in shared prayer and at the Eucharistic table there is a bond like no other, alone for the other transcending time and space. I am forever grateful.

I have a dream, vision and I believe a calling to establish a monastic community dedicated to the praise and adoration of GOD through traditional classical sacred choral music and related arts like stain glass, carving, textiles, metal work, calligraphy, etc. Such a monastery that would accept ALL descent orthodox Christian men no matter their age. The only requirement being the possession of a solidly good and grounded Christian character, values, morals and ethics.

why not seek out the shakers? their are only 6 of them left I believe they relied solely on converts they did not believe in marriage or having children that is prtly why they have been in decline for the last 160 years . that aside their economic and religious contributions are endless many of the simple tools and tech. that you prob. have in your own home were probably thanks to a shaker brother or sister. it is one of the most endangered religious groups in the world. They look Amish but they are not just saying. I would seriously give them a look up and perhaps go and visit with them if you can in the last active community. in the united states new England I think is were it is ...just look them up .

Monasteries in the Holy Catholic Church are called to be models for whole Christendom. They live strickly as did the Firsts Christians. "They were sharing everything in common" Acts 4, 32. So, the monks live what whole Catholics should live. And, as so, Firsts Christians live the poverty (putting everything in the same pot), obedience ( they stayed close to the true doctrine proclaimed by the Apostles), and chastity (married Firsts Christians slept together as long as they wanted children, after this they lived in different rooms and when the children left the house, many joined hermitages et monasteries. ((Look at the lives of the firsts monks in the deserts of Egypt and Palestina)). So, the community is a fundamental thing in Christian life. Saint Benedict of Nursia said that shared life is the best way to gain sanctification because you can't fall in sin if you're well surrended and not living along doing what you want to do, but living in obedience. (See Rule of St. Benedict, ch. 1 et ch. 71). So, as I understood the point of Lewis, he was talking about living as a hermit, but in full communion of the Holy See? If not, Lewis, the only true Wisdom, the only true salvation, the only true life, the only true... Truth! is in the Catholic Church. The Catechism describe the Faith as this: "it is the adherence of the intelect to the Truth revealed by God and proposed by the Church" see Catechism of the Catholic Church, Profession of Faith, part 143. And to test your pride, Saint Thomas Aquinas called the non-beliver and idiot. If you have two paths, an easy and a harder, which bring you to the same place, intelligence will bring you to the easiest. So, it's easier to prove the existence of God than to prove that He doesn't exist. So, it's brighter to say that God exists! (See "the 5 Ways" of St. Thomas Aquinas). Stat Crux dum volvitur orbis The Cross is steady while the world turns.

I watched a documentary on the Carmelite nuns in Wolverhampton England ..A truly beautiful 28 min Doc. and lovely and sweet holy women ,but the thing I was amazed by is how many nasty hateful or patronizing comments their were below about a otherwise beautiful bunch of women leading a life that they chose to lead. who had more open minded and simple ideas of god and human relationships than I even expected. I was just so sad to see so many hateful comments about it and about these women. I do not know why ther were not such trolls making such comments as that on this Doc. people are assholes. but look it up a wonderful doc. about the Carmelite life of nuns in modern England.

If everyone chooses to run away and live this kind of secluded life believing that this is the ultimate goodness of one’s transient existence on earth, how are the necessities and the mechanism of this world with billions of people and mouths to feed going to operate and function? It is just not logical. Common sense tells us God created man to grow naturally using his God-given brain and get himself educated and find a suitable loving partner and get married in accordance with their natural urge to get together, and raise a good family and have children and live a morally upright life. No reason for you to suppress your natural sexual urges. You then contribute goodness to your society with your individual career or business or skill. This is the way to honour your Maker. There is a religion that provides a strong spiritual ballast, and backbone, and anchor, that provide fulfilment and peace in living life in its full naturalness where every aspect of life and living makes sense. Nothing complexing or complicated. Look for that religion.
@Mr.SLovesTheSacredHeartofJesus3 жыл бұрын
No, you're missing the larger point. Some men are called by God himself to this life. If you get the call, you go!
@r.a.h.1753 жыл бұрын
God needs no one. God creates you to thankfully acknowledge and honor Him at every moment. Every living being is important and special, and everyone performs their devotional role from whatever position they are in. The role of those who choose to lead a full time religious existence is to inspire others towards thoughts of Godliness, to create the awareness of balance, correctness and goodness. The weight and score points are measured similarly to those who contribute to the betterment of mankind in their various individual capacities. That is sensible.

I've never thought much of the argument, "What if everyone did this, how would the world function?" Well, what it everyone became lawyers, or bakers, or insurance salesman? It's the same answer. But in reality, not everyone shares the same talents and desires. The monasteries are self-supporting, as I suppose you are, so what is really the difference. They are called to their particular life, just as you are to yours.
