A towering monument to one of the most revered figures in Native American history is slowly taking shape in South Dakota. Crazy Horse was among the leaders of the Lakota Sioux, who attacked and destroyed a U.S. Army regiment in 1876 -- a two-day battle that went down in history as Custer's Last Stand. The sculpture's creation began in 1947, and is likely to take more than a century to cmplete. Mark Albert traveled to Crazy Horse, South Dakota, to show us why.

When I came to this country in 1955 I fell in love with Native Indian Culture , their way of Life, Respect and Mindset for the world... I saw /heard and my Whole Body said YES YES YES this is the Way, the ONLY Way we were meant to live. I grew up WW 2 I won't talk about even if somebody thinks 'they understand / No way, you had to have experienced it to comprehend. I like the Native Indian Culture, although as in all LIfe Children forget and adopt to other ways sadly.

A whole tribe have been there and finally have. Even recognized by the Mexican government because the U S refused to acknowledge we exist.

The construction of Mount Rushmore National Memorial took 14 years, from 1927 to 1941. The Crazy Horse Memorial is still far from finished today, but if completed would utterly dwarf Mount Rushmore. You tube recommendations are getting out of hand. I visited this site over 20 years ago and just yesterday was looking up some old vacation photos (real hard copy photographs) and came across a few of the mountain. Today this video was recommended to me

Did you speak about it out loud? Because I have spoke of things and had KZbin suggest videos on what me and my fam were talking about. Truly believe they are listening. It's freaky.

What’s ironic is in Native American culture, pointing means to get out of their land

Crazy Horse is pointing in respone to the question "where is your land now" asked in a very disrespectful and derogatory way. His point is to show that THIS mountain IS their land. Its really quite beautiful and incredibly heartbreaking all at the same time.

Well as a conservation minded person, I can see why at least some nativesnthink this is a huge scar on the land when I look at the whole complex of buildings and roads and deforested areas.
