One filter is not enough

Regarding how many filters you need for a respirator/gas mask, one single filter is not enough, you need at least one open training filter, so you can test that the mask works properly, train to use it and build confidence with your mask.
You also need at least one sealed and in-date filter for actual use in a NBC emergency. Relying on the open filter is a bad idea as if it has not already expired it will not last long when exposed to harsh chemicals.
Ideally you should have several in-date and sealed filters in case they do not last long enough for you to evacuate a contaminated area properly.
If you are simply using the mask against particle threats you do not really need to worry about filters expiring, as particle filters last decades unless damaged or used frequently.

Regarding filters, I found online at protecdirect, fairly cheap ABEK2 HgP3 filters for only £17 made by scott. They have a 10 year date. I tested them on a S6 gas mask in the Sam way you do. They worked fine and for a good price.

How are they sealed? Lots of Scott filters come in crappy plastic bags.

GP-5 filters are expired and have asbestos in, so they will either work or not work, and if they work not for very long, and you risk inhaling asbestos which will damage your lungs.

You don't need two filters at once on the mask if there are not massive amounts of chemicals in the air. You just should have at least two, one for training and one completely sealed when you would need it.

i have a filter that is a green cilnder and long ish and all it says on it is 'xl-90-3' '6kФ' could anyone identify this filter and tell me if it is safe thank you. It also came with a mask and a hose the mask looks like a smh41 with a black thing where the nose is.
