I do agree that the setup and accessibility for new smartphone users is easier to understand for the playstore, Google is pretty good with that. The thing with Apple not supporting APK’s is reasonable, because their number 1 value and selling point is Security. APK’s and security don’t really mix too well since anyone can make APK’s to download leading to harmful files like viruses/malware. In terms of software capability, It’s really just preference on whether you want more freedom (Samsung) or security (Apple).

Google generally takes longer to approve an app update than Apple does. Apple will approve in a few days usually, Google takes closer to 4-6. Not sure that solves the mystery but data point.
