9:06 "I'm not a professional model." So self-effacing, Rob! LOL. Thank you for another concise and easy-to-follow tutorial (using non-budget-busting equipment).

Thanks, Thomas. I try. Unfortunately, modelling is not something I'll ever get good at, no matter how much I practice.

Given that the tech you were using is roughly equivalent to an E-M10 IV, along with some of the cheapest lenses and flashes, this was eye-opening in terms of what you can do and how to do it. This is great for those of us just getting into photography without the high end equipment.

As usual, a practical and down to earth explanation of flash work. This is something I until now, have rarely done, in part as most of my shots have ample daylight and proprietary flashes have been far too expensive. Am aware of the benefits of fill in flash but have shied away this as it was a "new frontier". Will check out prices for the Godox flashes in Australia, our prices are significantly higher than American units. Thanks again Rob- love the way you keep away from the expensive gear. However, would like to see you give the apparently excellent 75 1.8 a test drive. In M43, it gives a longish 150mm ff equivalent, where standard portrait type lens have been 84mm, though all the big ff players now seem to be offering 135mm portrait type lens- at very high prices. My excellent 45 1.8 has done an excellent job of many of these types of shots on my Pen F.

Thanks. I'll do some more flash videos. I love the 45mm 1.8. I prefer it over the 75mm since I don't have to stand so far away. But the 75mm certainly is fabulous. There are some cheaper flash/trigger combos if you want to shoot flash in manual mode only. You just have to walk up to the flash every time you want to change power which is only a pain when you have it high on a light stand.

@@RobTrek Thanks Rob. Given my lack of flash experience- nothing for 15 years' , would certainly need to start with auto TTL type flash. The various Godox Flash units don't seem overly expensive after having had a quick look.

Another great demonstration, thank you! Can you make a video for us who don't have fancy flashes with triggers? Only flash above camera. For example tutorial how to take good flash photos with e-m10 II and it's flash.
@RobTrek2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I tried some shots today with my em10ii and struggled a bit. While there are certainly things that can be done in certain situations, you're ultimately stuck with a tiny underpowered flash that only shoots straight ahead. I'll do some more practicing with it and see if I can offer some suggestions.

Hi Rob, Do you prefer the umbrella or the softbox?
@RobTrek2 жыл бұрын
I prefer the umbrella in most cases. Umbrellas are easy to travel with and don't cost much. However, umbrellas spread light everywhere. When I want a narrower light pattern, soft boxes with grids are best.

Thanks for that, I noticed the trigger you were using on your camera looked different to to the trigger for the link you shared I have the same camera so interested in getting a compatible trigger , what was the trigger on camera? . Thanks for sharing .

I was using the Godox xPro-O. It's costs a little more but offers a larger display. # ad amzn.to/3A8C8kP

Rob I just got the Sigma 55mm it’s good…. I only have flash working in Auto mode …. I would like to turn power way down say in manual … but it won’t fire … It only works on Auto mode… Any ideas please? Thanks
@RobTrek Жыл бұрын
Which flash do you have? If it's the godox tt350, you need to set the flash mode to M and set the power level on the flash itself.

@@RobTrek thanks for replying Rob …. no it’s the baby Olympus one without battery… btw the Sigma 56mm is so good am considering selling all my other lenses…)
@RobTrek Жыл бұрын
@@OutRAjious The FLM3 flash can be set to manual in the super control panel. The 56mm is a bit tight for most things If you have the 45mm or 75mm, sell those. I'd keep wider lenses for small spaces.
@OutRAjious Жыл бұрын
@@RobTrek I’m thinking the 56mm will be great for portraits and people… lots of ‘pop’… Yes I set the flash to 1/5 … don’t want my pics to look flashed … but when I change from AUTO, it doesn’t flash at all … In auto it works…
