I once had an idea that was exactly like this. It involved a series of different timbres playing the same pitch. This would allow aspiring composers and musicians to memorize pitches beyond a single instrument. You took my idea and made it a reality, and I couldn’t thank you enough for that.

Trying to combine it together with playing the notes on my instrument + singing at the same time. Let's see what's gonna happen after a while ;) * clarification: not just "playing notes", but rather scales/improvisations over these "drones" (I play Double Bass and Fretless Electric Bass) * edit2: doing such "sessions of meditation" extremely rarely. Eventually, you should do it as much as you are not feeling slowly turning crazy 'n mad 😂 This monotonity can be dangerous... I mean, really.... 😑

I don’t. I think not, but good question. I think the oscillation depends on the instrument, definitely with the organ tones it’s adjustable, is on my Roland anyhow. If there were two notes, or strings being tuned, then yeah the oscillation tells you when the are in tune, along with the actual pitch, of course.

@@LocalMusicLessonsLLC No, absolute pitch is a built in ability. There are kids who are 7 years old who have it and have never practiced an instrument, they just hear the difference between tones. Relative pitch can absolutely be learned, and it's debatably better and more useful anyway. Perfect pitch means you hear a note and you just know what it is. Like seeing the color yellow or red, its just OBVIOUS there's no reason you wouldn't know it and you don't have to practice seeing the colors to know the difference, you only have to practice the names of the colors to put them together. People without perfect pitch just don't have it, it isn't a skill. Ear training is a skill and its completely unrelated.

This is not perfect pitch. This is developing relative pitch memory. I was once called out of the blue by a distant relative, we were both related to a particular classical composer. Perfect ran in the family so he asked me to sing an 'A'. I sang it and he said 'You're flat' and I said I bet it is the 'A on the guitar by my bed and it was. That is what this may develop. If you have perfect pitch it is uncomfortable or even painful to hear a tone that is not perfectly in tune. Actually, I am glad I don't have it because of that.

They are different octaves of the same note. Because there are only 7 actual whole notes, the next note above the 7th is called an octave (meaning 8th) and this cycle repeats multiple times depending on the range of the instruments. So they are all the same note/pitch/frequency but in lower or higher octaves. Hope that makes sense!

All of those notes are a C note. Played in different octaves and on different instruments, this will help you identify pitches in different timbres. Each instrument has a specific tonal quality or color, this is called timbre.

Nah this doesn’t work for me. Can’t you just do the tone of a piano instead of a flute?
