I have the combo (A7CII + 40mm G Lens) and I also have the 24mm G lens for smaller streets of old European cities. These small lenses are really outstanding and Sony reduced their prices a little since they're announced. I also have 35mm GM f/1.4 lens from Sony, but I only use it for low light, indoor shoots. The new A7CII is not just a small upgrade from the original one which I also own. The new camera is simply amazing and the cheapest way to get Sony is wonderful AI based autofocus system. I can recommend the camera and the lens to everyone, especially street snappers. 40mm f/2.5 is the sharpest of the triology and it is very close to 35mm GM lens according to sharpness, autofocus speed and build quality. It is just a miniature GM lens with very few cons.

Nice approach to your videos, man. No messing around. Down to Earth. I gotta say…these colours are stunning. Love the warmth. Might check out your presets and luts. I’m torn between fujifilm and getting back into Sony. Had to sell my gear a year ago. Had the A7IV and Sigma 24-70. It was superb. But, kinda sat on the shelf due to its footprint. Never felt like ‘just going out with it’. I see a lot of folk saying the same. Hence me looking at Fuji for those colours. And fun factor. But, man…like I said, your colours are epic here. Pretty much what I love in an image. Recently, it’s like unless you have a Fuji, you can’t create a beautiful, fun pleasing image. Don’t get me wrong, SOOC, they win. Hands down. No edits. And that seriously appeals. But they start to fall down in other areas that Sony just excels. Full frame. Tiny. Hard to ignore!

You have a fantastic little setup. I have the same but I bought the A7CR just because. Hell of a reason. Guess I like to spend money. I also use these lenses on my a6700. Not one to use a Leica, been more a Pentax and Nikon fanboy in the film world in the 70s and 80s. Also my job in the military as a staff member of a few base newspapers, we used Nikon F2s. But in the digital world starting in 2019, I went full Sony. Unless you have shot film cameras for 30 years, you missed out on an interesting time in photography. I carry all my knowledge and experiences right into the digital world. Not too much different except for all those buttons, EVF and 3-inch monitor. I shoot as a hobby now, so my days as a PJ are long gone, but not forgotten. When I hear people complain about the quality of images, I blame them. I got great images from a 1970s Pentax Spotmatic F. I get great images from my Sony's. It's the person, not the camera. In jest, the best camera made sits in my drawer, the Nikon F2/A/AS. To think that this camera evolved from the earlier Nikon S, which was a copy of the Leica at the time. Now we have cameras, and that's about it.

I just picked up this combo as a backup & travel/street to my main A7RV. It's will be my main video cam too. TBH, I like the still/video switch/dial better than the A7RV (pushing the lock button slows me down) and the combo still/video switch is not user friendly.

Great video, thanks for sharing. I'm gathering some info on this camera, as it's very tempting... My reason says I should not be getting it, as I have an a7r3, but who cares about reason when it's about GAS 😅 Would be nice to have smaller run and gun camera that also is a lot newer and have a lot more bells and whistles, I think. There is a dealer here which have Sony lens bundle: Buy the a7cii and get $400 off certain lenses - mostly the expensive ones. Thinking about the 50mm gm, which also have $250 in casback. I have 3 days to decide till the deals expires. And to talk to the wife about this...😮

Is it worth the money?

Thanks for the interesting video and story. I'm going to buy this exact camera and lens combination - Sony A7CII & 40mm 2.5g & 50mm F2.5 G. Do these lenses handle a 33MP sensor well? Are you happy with this combination?
@JoeDAgostinoPhoto11 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. I have all of those lenses plus the 24mm g. I am absolutely happy with the combination due to the size and weight. They are wonderfully made lenses especially with the ability to access aperture on the lenses itself. As far as technically perfect result I really could speak on. I’m not a pixelpeeper so for me if I enjoy how a lenses renders then that’s all I care about. Plus all three lenses travel well.
@iraklikordzaia11 ай бұрын
@@JoeDAgostinoPhoto It was the question of pixels that interested me. If the 40mm 2.5 G & 50mm F2.5 G lenses capture the 33 MP Sony A7CII, then of course this setup makes sense. But if they can't cope, why pay more? It's better to take the first Sony A7C.

Would you say the A7CII has replaced your Q2 as your every day carry/street camera? Or do you use them for different things? Found a deal on a mint condition Q2 for $3500 that im really trying to talk myself out of buying.
@JoeDAgostinoPhoto11 ай бұрын
I’m not sure anything would replace a Q series. They are amazing however I do enjoy the A7CII for an overall content creation tool. The video specs are great as well as the photo specs. It truly is a great camera. Not quite the same feeling as shooting Leica but definitely a great feeling as well.

Any chance someone could give me an opinion between this 40mm 2.5 G vs 35mm 1.8 also from Sony? Cheers
@AdventuringWithNala11 ай бұрын
If size is top of the list for you, then the 40mm hands down. It's more compact by a bit. I have the 35mm 1.8 and it's a fun lens but it's definitely bigger. Depends on what you're shooting too. If you shoot wide open at 1.8 most of the time, then the wider aperture is nice to have and looks great. Outside of that, the obvious field of view difference, bit 35-40 is not a huge difference in FOV anyways, but again that depends on what you're shooting. Optically, I think the 40mm is going to be sharper, but the 35 isn't soft by any means. I think between these 2, the size difference is probably the biggest determining factor. If size is not an important factor, I'd be choosing the 35 over the 40.
@POVwithRC10 ай бұрын
You know damn well some executive at Sony Imaging was like 'We WILL be making a 40 because I want one. This is for ME' And so we all benefit from not being stuck with the 50 G. It's inception was passion.
