Regardless of any feelings against Gerald once he pointed out that people were losing access to future cameras it became all too clear you could no longer trust said reviewer. In my mind Gerald is not above that criteria but understanding what he exposed changes a lot for me and my subscription list. My anger at certain reviewers is truthfully due to getting burned by these shill reviews. This video is great thank you for just being honest and talking to us straight. 3:57 not true. I was at both 2022 Tokyo Lumix event and 2024 Osaka event. Back when the S5 II was released, I was the only one to say that the A7 IV IBIS (with active mode) is actually better in some situations. There was a ton of videos showing how good is the S5 II IBIS at 24+ mm, but no videos revealing that there is warping at ultra-wide angles. I was accused of being Sony fanboy, paid by Sony etc. There was a lot of drama on rumor sites. Then I made a separate video showing side-by-side samples in many scenarios that couldn't be disputed. Panasonic has called me to ask whether I have updated FW in the camera, I said that I have. Then they said that my testing is representative and everything is OK. I got invited to London event for S5 II X and Osaka event for the S9. Nobody from Panasonic has never said anything bad about any of my criticism, including my video about leaving Panasonic's M43 system and S5 review where I said that the AF is unacceptable. I have never felt pressured by Panasonic, Fujifilm, Sony or anybody else. Also worth mentioning is that the is a ton of pressure from the toxic part of photography community to criticize everything. I don't care about that either, if I think that a widely criticized camera, such as the S9 or even X100VI is actually good, I will just say it... I guess that "being at an event shaming" makes being there as risky as not being from the YT success perspective :)

I left a comment on your channel by mistake (meant for this video) I was watching your one too so accept my apologies, but why did you get so defensive with it? Gerald has put a video up saying you'll likely get cut off, not invited to events/reviews if you're overly critical. I can see why it's blown up, and I also think yes many expected more from Panasonic and they misunderstood what people wanted or didn't market research it enough. I don't think that is why people are upset, it's about the other point mentioned.
@TheHybridShooter5 ай бұрын
@@MrBazReviews If I remember it correctly, that comment suggested that my review is not a review because it is not sufficiently critical. That seems like a relevant reason to get defensive IMO. It is OK to criticize any product, but it is also important to understand what is the purpose of the product and what isn't. Niche cameras with compromises have been released before, but I have never experienced this amount of negativity before.
@MrBazReviews5 ай бұрын
@@TheHybridShooter The comment wasn't aimed at you directly, as I said it was meant for this video. I will say one thing though, the pinned comment suggests people look at the S5II/Not for you etc. That isn't something I would put on a video - if you're seen as defending a maker that might be misinterpreted by some. I do think Panasonic misjudged what people wanted, quite clearly - but I don't think that's the source of anger. Lot of disappointment yes, I think the price point is wrong (too high), and I think they did cut out too much (for photographers in particular), so it's a missed opportunity to many. But the Gerald video blow the lid off and that's the source of anger. I've never dealt with Panasonic, but he clearly suggests people get ghosted/not invited etc if you are critical of the product. For such a large creator to say that is very disturbing indeed.

@@MrBazReviews The problem is that his video suggests that the people who were there are submissive sellouts who won’t say anything bad in fear of not being invited again. The issue with youtube gear reviews is the whole gear talk industry itself, beyond the risks of influence and bias. It's the turn to sensational clickbait, discussing camera models/brands like politics or sports, and the fetishization of specs rather than the whole experience. People are making thousand dollar decisions based on these reviews, and yet the reviewers are using preproduction models for a very short period of time and racing to be the first to post a vid after the NDA lifts. Long term reviews have no place when this platform rewards trending keywords and uber-topical subjects, and we the viewers are guilty for playing along with this spectator sport. Even Gerald is part of the problem at times, his methodology sometimes gives him cover for his blind spots and bias. But you're right, it's the same people year after year, and they always have to hedge their opinions, or keep it light and positive. This round of reviews for the S9 is just blatantly laughable... the shortcomings and drawbacks of this camera (and lens) are the kinds of qualities they often fixate on otherwise. I guess if you offer the camera in fun colors the review doesn't need to be so serious, or maybe that paid trip to japan where they're handed a camera face to face (rather than shipped), it's harder to be critical subconsciously.

The funny thing is that this Lumix S9 probably is a "gamechanger" in many ways not just in what they did with the camera but the whole hype of all of this. I hope it makes people look at Lumix cameras. They seem to be very underrated. The S5II is an excellent camera.
@bondgabebond49072 ай бұрын
Trouble today is that technology moves so fast that the camera you hold is technically 'old.' I wonder if that is one reason lots of people are going back to using mechanical cameras? If film wasn't so expensive, if processing wasn't so bad, I'd do more. It was a simpler time last century. A Pentax Spotmatic F made as good images as a Nikon or Canon. We knew what was for general consumer use and what was for the professionals. Yet they all operated the same. Simple. I don't care about these 'gamechangers.' It all boils down to: Can you take a good/excellent picture with any camera???? I'd pit my 1979 Nikon F2 against any Lumix. They are all dependent on a battery and useless without one. My Nikon is all mechanical and will work long after that 'gamechanger' Lumix is dead and buried.
@aeskellion5 ай бұрын
I don’t think there’s any problem with the situation around the Lumix S9. Why? because this is one of the first times we are in a modern era with Lumix, usually known for making cameras destined to professionals, now catering to… let’s say the mainstream. And now what we’re seeing is professionals being upset that a new camera that isn’t for them doesn’t fit their needs. It feels like those professionals were expecting the S9 to be more akin to the S5II while costing less, and that is simply not possible. I feel like if Panasonic wanted to make a no compromise compact version of the S5 they would’ve named it something with S5 in it, the S9 is another product and a new kind of product that is not aimed at professionals. So of course, when those creators were invited to Japan to talk about this camera, what Panasonic wants is for people to be aware of its existence and the best way to do that is to invite content creators/influencers to talk about it. But I guess they weren’t expecting them to project their professional mindset onto that camera and end up confused. In my opinion as an amateur photographer, the S9 is fine, and I’m looking forward to see more videos on it so that I can decide if it’s a good candidate to replace my Fuji X100T. That’s my take.

I’ve watched pretty much every review. The majorly all pointed out the major shortfalls of the camera. It’s pretty plain to see their disappointment in these areas. But they’re also entitled to point out the interesting features of the camera, which may be the bits you don’t care about. As an adult you make an informed decision. Secondly, I watch a lot of KZbinrs. I can say that I had no idea who half the reviewers were for this release. The idea that it’s the same ‘shills’ every time is based on assumption, not fact. Yes, many of the usual suspects were there, but there seemed to be a good balance. A release review is only an initial impression in a nice environment. Ideally products should be used for a while before being properly reviewed. If the industry did not churn out a new camera every week then this might happen, but sadly not the case. IMO it’s also about time viewers and reviewers actually start using the comment section. If you feel a reviewer hasn’t covered something, viewer should ask in the comment section and youtubers should give feedback via pinned comment or follow up video. Right now comment section is pretty much used for complaints or bashing others.

There are so many parties in play here: pro KZbinr, fan boy, influencers, camera company, small KZbinr and all the viewer who think KZbinrs owns them anything in the first place! And all those groups of peoples have their own interest. Camera manufacturers want people to say nice things of their products, this have all time been and will all time be and it’s called marketing. Pro KZbinrs have bills to pay, fan boys have their preferred brand to protect like if they were in religion or politics, and viewers are getting lazy! On KZbin you’ll hear everywhere productivity this or productivity that, and too many are buying in it. It’s your money, your choice then why should it someone else to take the blame for your choice (generally the bad one)? Why aren’t people going in the camera store, touch the camera, feel by themselves, take the time to read the manual, and more importantly practice to learn the gear? No camera or gear for the matter is perfect. And no gear will ever be perfect. They are all tools design for a specific functions and demographic (particular group of users). Why all camera coming out should be for you, your needs, your workflow, etc…? Why if a camera doesn’t have the features you need or are looking for, it’s a bad camera? The youtuber has something many times that no one else has and people flock to their video because they have seen something that not many have had a chance to take a look at. this is my experience with the RICOH GR3. almost every youtube photographer talked about it when at that price, it's got a lot of flaws such as dust problems, no flip up screens, and short battery life just to name a few. yet it's priced over 1k

@@angeloplayforone that doesn't justify the price. I think it's way too overhyped and that's what I believe to have pumped the price
@MonstaBlockaАй бұрын
I think it's good that some manufacturers create something of their own. The GR3 focuses on "must be small". Many people never test the cameras. They read and watch KZbin to get some kind of guarantee from someone else. But not everything is written on paper, the best example is the S9. I bought the S9 straight after testing it because I like what it is (as a B camera)

well it is not that bad... Kai Wong, Gordon Laing and Chris Nicholls's reviews are both balanced, and if you watch carefully, you can see that they all believe the camera is a failure. Although I agreed with Gerald, his video came across as a bit like sour grapes for not being invited to the Japan Lumix event. Additionally, his dismissive review of the GH6 and the streaking issue didn't align with my experience. I've been shooting with and own 2 GH6s for the past couple of years, and in practice, the only time I've experienced the streaking is when shooting in VLOG at lower ISOs. As long as I'm shooting at 2000 ISO (similar to shooting in S-log with certain Sony cameras) with DR boost turned on, it's never been an issue. However, now people who've never used the camera just repeat what he said or decided to stick with their GH5, even though the GH6 is a better camera in every way. The problem isn't KZbinrs going on a trip; it's how they're now calling anyone who criticizes the S9 a hater, or saying the camera isn't for us, even though the reality is it's just not a good camera.

If you think most of the people are braindead idiots who can’t decide what to buy and what not for themselves, then yes, very legit. But if you can just assume for a second reviewers can really enjoy this or that camera for different reasons, not only because they were invited to the event… and all the specs are known, you can see how the camera looks like etc. If you like it, you buy, if not, just don’t. But I guess if someone buys anything because another guy on the internet told them so, probably they deserve it.

I’m not seeing what all the hubbub is about. No one is forced to buy a camera they dont want. If you don’t know enough about cameras to know what you do and do not need in your camera from just a specs overview and field test review then that’s more of an issue with the individual’s camera knowledge than with the company or reviewer. I don’t get what Gerald was so pressed about. Companies have to play to their advantage. Not every company has Sony ponies. Not every company has the technology either. I’m a lumix fanboy, so I’d love to go to give LUMIX reviews. I love their products. Affordable and efficient. The S5 is the modern GH5. For what I do, you can’t go wrong with it
