Woah. Never thought Netflix would ever adapt this into a show or film. One Hundred Years of Solitude is one of my father’s favorite novels growing up. It’s by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It’s technically about this family who had this curse that gets passed on from one generation to the next. I hope they do justice to this adaptation. I have faith that this will be great.

As I write this, I'm just beginning to write a research paper on the maddening masterpiece that this book is. Far far away from Colombia and the historical time of One Hundred Years of Solitude, today in India I'm trembling with a feeling that's a mix of everything from fear to rage to conviction to misery to joy to solitude. It can't be an accident that I stumbled upon this today, of all days. I feel I am so far removed from the history of Latin America and its solitude and yet so closely nestled with Macando and the Buendia family. It's an enchanted place where constructs like ethnicities and nationalities just fade away and we are all one person and everyone at once. It's a place beyond the exigencies of life and yet so tenaciously rooted in it that one keeps wondering if one exists or not, if one exists as oneself or as all of the people they have came across, if one exists in one moment or through all the moments in the history of mankind.

Obviously there are things that are going to change like Remedios age in the moment to marry el coronel Aureliano, however I want a good adaptation of the plot that represent our history, the Colombian culture, and el realismo mágico. I also want a Colombian casting, and the series being filmed in Colombia.

One Hundred Years of Solitude reminds me of my school days. I love a girl more than my life at that time. We loved, cared, and were mad at each other. Time took it to turn and she left to a man of incredible fortune. I was heartbroken, wandering through the streets of Mumbai, not knowing what to do. Then start lifting myself up and reached where I am now. Then like a love story, something happened in her life and she left the guy she chose over me. We met a dozen years later and she was all down and dusted. I talked to her and I never know how those years just intensified my love for her. I know that time, time only makes love goes strong; and not the opposite.

I have a whole musical cycle of 15 orchestral pieces dedicated to this novel. Alas, I was never able to "knock on the sky" to interest the authors of the project in this music - they did not even hear it, and my letter simply sank in their e-mail box ... I called this cycle BUENDIANA.

When Gabriel Garcia Marquez himself said there's no way to turn his famous novel into a film, believe him! It is one of my all time favorite pieces of literature, and I feel the same, I won't watch it.
