I used to have a similar hook up movie theater wise. I worked at a Local Comic Shop here in town and we did cross promotions with the local Regal on any comic or sci fi related film. We would post the theater times in our window and would set up tables at the theater and we would take movie stubs for raffles we would run for cool comics and toys. So I got to know all the managers and most of the staff and would walk up to the ticket booth and they would ask "what ya seeing today?" I also got to do their thursday after midnight showings of the films they would test for the friday showings with the employees. And on opening day me and a friend would get walked past the line, the manager would hand us a mop & we'd pretend we were cleaning so we would get 1st choice of seats....miss those days

I used to go the Regal Oaks 24 often. Sorry to see it go, but, like you, I hardly go to movies in theaters anymore, so I'm contributing to the problem. I miss the theater-going experience, but frankly most new movies today don't interest me much. Where was the Regal in Norristown that you mentioned? Could you be talking about the Regal Plymouth Meeting on Ridge Pike in Conshohocken, behind Uno Pizzeria? I think that was the first "fancypants" theater in this area, but it was soon followed by the United Artists King of Prussia, still in business as the Regal King of Prussia, a 12-screener on Goddard Blvd near the mall. It's a nice theater, very similar to the Regal Oaks. Going even further back, when I moved to this area in 1996, none of these places were open yet. Instead, we had two extremely crappy theaters in King of Prussia, both old but not fun-old, just decrepit, musty, smelly old. The Regal Plymouth Meeting was a huge step forward for movie lovers; the seats were far more comfortable, for example.

I went to the movie theater a lot growing up but the last few times I went the other people ruined the experience for me. I sometimes saw 4 movies the weekend for a while. For what I paid for the movie and snacks I could buy the movie on disc and watch it in the comfort of my own home. I do do remember being 5 0r 6 and watching E.T. at the drive-in.

I’m sorry to hear that your theater might be shutting down those are some really cool stories and you are lucky to have that friend for sure! I used to love going to the cinema, but I’m starting to be like you and I’m just less and less motivated mostly because for me, I have to ride the bus every time and there’s a driver shortage right now because nobody wants to work in my town. It feels like since Covid and with a 4K OLED TV here at home it is unfortunately becoming less and less necessary to go. I had an experience like that once with being alone with a matinee of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and I think I discovered that they don’t actually play the movie if nobody is going to the Showtime, or at least, that’s how it used to be because I was sitting there and all of a sudden the movie just started playing. There was no previews no nothing so afterwords I asked the manager what happened and he said sorry about that the projectionist didn’t actually see you there and then I said well I’m glad he ended up seeing me because I have to catch the bus in five minutes. It was really funny.

My local Rehal was on that list of closing theaters, but the employees have been addiment that they are not closing

We had a Regal 10 in my hometown, but it was pre-stadium seating and failed to evolve with the times while continuing to charge more than newer modern theaters. It's now owned by MovieScoop, but not sure for how long... I will always prefer going to a theater, but it's always gamble thanks to ignorant audience members.

I went to see the jugband Disney Bears movie with my hook up and the lady giving me my ticket was like "Really?" I told her I had seen everything else already.... I too was all by myself in there.... the cleaning guy came in to see If I was actually in there... I told him he wouldnt have to clean cause I'd not make a mess

I agree with you that theaters are falling out of favor, but someone (production companies?) really seems to be pushing for them - a lot of movie trailers now seem to end with "ONLY in theaters." I've been to the theater exactly once in the last 3 years, and somehow have still seen all the new releases I wanted to... 🤔 Also, where was the Regal in Norristown? I can't think of where it would have been..?

I Go to the Movie Theater for the experience i wish they would replace their screens in Golden Ticket Cinema it's all full of scratches on the screens

I go to the movies monthly. At least 3-8 movies. I prefer to see modern movies asap instead of seeing it later on

If you go to weekday matinees and avoid opening night/weekend, you're chances of crowds or annoying people are greatly reduced. Matinees are also cheaper. I'm guessing your son will really want to see the Super Mario Bros movie. Titanic 3D was re-released around Valentine's Day and I only see 2 showings in the theaters within 50 miles of me.

I actually worked there. But then this one girl and I who worked there played hookie and went to see the Bouncing Souls. It was one of those I am not fired because I quit circumstances.

I love going to the theater, I go once a week but I understand for those who do not like going. If all movie theaters did eventually shut down one major issue would be the quality in movies. Movies have a huge budget and get their return of investment from ticket sales. Studios do not make money when the movies go right to streaming so they quality of how they would be made would be severely affected.

just visited my home town and the old theaters have closed and there either gone or turned into churches. it's sad how they have streamlined the theater experience.

i just went to see the whale movie a month in january! Without spoilers i enjoyed that movie :) it was worth seeing 8/10 for me and i also enjoyed a man called otto with tom hanks in it too another movie worthgoing to see as well

It would really help the theater if you could delete this video. The fate of the theater is undecided… It is not necessarily closing, but it is on the bubble. Any information out there that this theater is closing is detrimental to the theater because it keeps people away. If patrons think that the theater is closed, they won’t come. Then it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Right now, this theater is fighting for life, And can’t afford to see a drop in patronage.

That’s one way to look at it. I’m going to go in a different direction though. The theater itself posted they were closing, but as the employees inside said in this video, they are not yet. Also this is a great way to get patrons to visit who want to see the place one last time. So I’m going to say this video is a great way to get more people out to the theater. Especially people who thought they were already closed like I did.
