Nice to see you tried and tasted a little bit on the One length clubs. There are way more brands then Cobra, Wishon, Orlimar, 1iron, Avoda and ... the one I'm gaming Pinhawk SL. I'm an avid one lenght believer and am lucky that in the 5 year I'm playing now ... I only used variable length merely the 1st 5 months. Thereafter switched to SL and will never look back. On my channel there are quite some vids (also Live ones) that have single length as topic. Just browse around to get a feel and get some extra info. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻

should i just take the gamble on pinhawks? (320ish) Or get fitted at a local cobra dealer and drop 1200? I've never tried them but the theory of reducing the setup/swing plane variables makes perfect sense.

Lester, I'm a one length player, cobra forged tec 5-pw and it's the biggest mistake I've made in golf. I had to go back to traditional wedges, and once I get above 6 iron the gapping is terrible. I strike the ball well but gapping between 5 and 6 iron is only 3-4 yards. That's probably because I just don't swing fast enough to get the ball in the air enough with the lower lofted clubs. I'm about to go back to variable length irons throughout the bag. The fact it's only Bryson that uses them tells it's own story and the handful of people that I know that had one lengths have changed back to variable length. I'll be booking myself a full set fitting at Scottsdale golf, fit, build, play service in the next few weeks.

I’ve had the complete opposite experience, but I do have a faster swing speed. One Length completely changed my game for the better. The standard lofts on the Cobra Forged Tec One Lengths were almost perfect off the shelf. I have about 12-14yd gapping from OL wedges to OL 3-hybrid. Had to de-loft the 4 iron down to 20 degrees to get a little more separation from the 5 iron, but other than that, best clubs I’ve ever played. Took me from a low-mid 80s to an average mid to high 70s, w an occasional low 80 in there. The consistency is on another level.

I’m 6’ 8” tall and all my irons have had 2” longer shafts. As I’ve gotten older, i’m 77, I couldn’t reach the ground with the higher lofted clubs so hit a lot of tops. I had everything from 7 iron to my 58* wedge reshafted to the length of the 6 iron 4 years ago. I was surprised that the gapping was 10 yards between each. So - perfect!

I play nothing but one length Cobra clubs. I love them. Cobra has done the time and research to make it work. They are best for two categories of people. First new golfer second my group with a lot of back injuries. Only one ball position. Every KZbinr who I've ever seen review those clubs they don't use them as one length they choke down on mid to short irons. You have to use full shaft because Cobra has put a lot of money developing the heads to work. Oh they do work.

I game Sterling one length irons, 5 - GW. I have found: - My good shots aren't any better than those I used to hit with variable length irons. My longer irons are a bit shorter, but not significantly so. - My gapping isn't all that different than I had with variable length irons. I struggled with the gap between my longer irons and i still do. I am going to test one length hybrids this spring and see what they do for me. - While I use the same setup and swing for all my stock shots, I still choke down on them when appropriate. It does help change the flight and distance. - I tend to score better because I don't hit as many awful shots. I dont make more birdies with my one length clubs, but I do make fewer high numbers. Are they for everyone? For sure no. Highly skilled golfers may see less benefit. And there can be a mental hurdle. They might help you if you have limited time to practice - not only does having one stock iron swing simply things, but you are practicing hitting all your irons with each swing. And you may hit fewer bad shots per round like I do. But you have to understand what these clubs will and won't do, and you have to test them before you buy.

When i moved home i sold my variable clubs and bought all single length from driver-LW. If you get them correct to your wrist to floor measurement it helps a lot. My swing speed isn't fast as i swing very smooth due to very dodgy knee so my 7iron goes 150-155yrds. I got the 4 and 5 in hybrids. I gotta say all my distances are spot on and have perfect 10-13yrd gaps however i gotta say the 6iron definitely has an ever so slightly more penetrating flight but the spin still stops the ball. I use pinhawk single length irons and fairway woods and a different brand driver. With the wedges you can grip down to reduce distance like you would normally btw

Also I might add that the transition was literally instant on the range as you just setup for whatever club is your usual wrist to floor measurement and all clubs will swing the exact same way

I think part of the issue is that a person has to commit and spend some time with them, not something that you can take few swings in the bay and tell anything much. I used single length for several years, 4 iron down to lob wedge, with good results. I switched back to regular mainly because I just wanted to try some of the newer stuff. I've since switched back because I can tell I was more consistent with them. I really liked the wedges, and not so much 5 iron. It's early days with the aerojet OL 5 iron, but already it is the best version I have tried to date. The wedges are much easier on my back, and the extra swing speed really helps cut through the rough. I'm even considering an OL set from 7 iron to lob wedge, and then have a 'normal' 6 and 5 iron. That could be the ideal set for me.

I used a set while on a golf trip to the US. I was fine 6-9, same sort of distances and flights as variable. W was iffy, G was awful for me. And such a massive difference in shaft length down to the S. However... I have a one length hybrid in the 5i slot (same shaft length as 6i), and for the summer, I have a one length 3 utility as my alt tee club. Flat bullets that run and run when its dry (if you can remember such a thing). Like you, I found the concept best for the longer end. I think you may be able to get a setup like the one you described buying the one length utilities in various lofts rather then 2 sets.

I agree with you in the sense marketing but would be hard to get people that's playing for a long time to completely switch from What they have been doing for years. I went to a couple of different fitters, they all told me I had to swing like bryson for them to work. Untill I went cobra themselves went for a fitting with them they found the right shaft and them also custom gapped out my irons from 4 to 60 wedge I have perfect gapping. I'd say to anyone thinking about them to have a fitting. Ye I understand that people. Might not want to buy brand new but I don't have a problem with them. And I only swing them around 80mph

I thought about this in the 70s. I'm still thinking having a 5 & 6 iron set to the same length as my 7 iron. Think manufacturers are maybe missing an opportunity here in that shortening the 3 thru 6 to 7 iron length may be a good thing for high handicappers. Looks like there are folks out there who bought a full set of one length and are selling 8 - GW while keeping the 4 - 7 one length.

Hi Bernie. I've played a couple of brands of one length, Pinhawk then Cobra f9. My overall opinion was that they were great when I was just starting out, as they gave me one constant in a game of massive variables. As I improved though issues began to become more obvious. As you said, a faster swing speed is necessary for the lower lofted irons or you lose gapping etc. So I dropped down to Pw to 7iron and back to standard length 6 +5. I also found with a full set when I needed to use fairway Woods or hybrids I wasn't able to set up properly as I had less experience with longer clubs. At the other end of the bag, I used a one length gap wedge ( 52) for full shots, but standard 56/ 60 for chipping and bunkers etc. Eventually though I have come back to standard clubs through the bag, as I wanted to play Ping irons ( bought the driver, so impressed I wanted the irons too) but they don't do one length and to be honest, after using standard length long irons, going back to standard length higher lofts has actually helped me as my skill as a golfer has improved.

Bonjour Lester, I have actually thought about this because my old blades were rusted at the butt end and needed shortening or reshafted, being Scottish shortening was cheaper 😂. Traditional lengths are 1/2" per club, why don't we use standard lengths PW-7 iron and then only go up 1/4" per club after that? Lie angle could be adjusted and lead tape can match swing weights. The results of this would be standard PW-7 iron, 1/4" shorter 6, 1/2" shorter 5, 3/4" shorter 4 and 1" shorter 3-iron. Makes perfect sense to me!!

As you say, probably need to give a fair bit of time to get feel for lower end of the bag and for me will likely look to time the purchase to end of season and use the winter for that purpose whether on course or at range. Why its not taken off with other Pro's is bit of a mystery but maybe younger folk inspired by Bryson will start coming out of the college circuit in the next few years and may get a few more using them?

It’s an interesting concept but there are clearly problems that the manufacturers haven’t solved. For example, today the goal seems to produce a 7 iron that goes as long as possible. Length sell clubs. That often makes the gapping at the top end of the set ridiculous. This is particularly evident in one length sets where the shorter shafts already is a problem regarding getting enough hight on your shots. For people with less than elite swing speed maybe the long irons should be more hybrid style, but without the draw bias that they always seem to build in to hybrid clubs. I like the idea of being able to use the same swing throughout the irons, but my concern would be the specialty wedges having much shorter shafts than the one-length clubs. You cannot judge a style of club with so few shots, you could have at least played a round of golf with them. Golf snobbery is why they don't sell, just the same as all Kirkland clubs, you're considered not a 'proper' golfer with one length. My stats & handicap have improved so much since I bought mine, consistency is the key and with an 'open' not pro 'bias' mind it only took me half a round to be comfortable with them, they are so easy to hit, who wouldn't want that.

In that case, I really don't understand your difficulty. My club pro had no problem when he tried them, after all, ball in the middle of the stance, 7 iron length, any decent ball striker should not have any problem apart from mentally. Surely they have to be easier than learning 13 different swings for a beginner, try going from a four iron to a pitching wedge if you've just started. As to manufacturers, if one length took off, how many thousands of 'ordinary' clubs would become obsolete overnight, they can use the tour players to keep using whatever clubs they decide. As to Bryson, you don't win tournaments & score 59 without a great short game, let the snobbery go and see them for what they are, I do wonder how popular they would be if it was Taylor Made who launched them instead of Cobra, the video echoed Rick Shiels and most other pro's reviews. First time watching, I did enjoy your presentation & will check out your back videos. @@berniebarnesgolf

Actually I think there should be a grouping of one length. Driver; fairway woods / hybrids / driving irons down to 5 iron ; 6 iron to sand wedge; then wedges. Though the wedges can be held long or short so you can lump them with irons. Then putter. Not invested in by manufacturers and promoted, because it is to intellectual and confusing from most fitting “pros”. To assess for the individual player.

Not really a fair test Lester using a Cobra model from a few years back rather than their updated models which include at least a couple of models ( Forged Tec and dark speed ) Also Edel make a more low handicap one length model which would suit your playing abilities. My experience is that I switched to One Length 4 years ago and to graphite shafts at the same time. This was a attempt to save my golf game having had health issues which leave me with some problems with balance. I have played to 7 previously and maintained my handicap at 9 for many years. I haven’t stayed there but can still play reasonable well. Got tempted to go back to variable length last year and bought a set of nice Srixon irons which felt great but ended up going back to the Cobras and now considering buying a new set of single length irons. Not experienced gapping issues and love the “ short “ irons. I’m 66 and certainly don’t swing as fast as I used too. In the end One length kept me playing. Give the newer Cobras or Edel’s a test if you can get hold of a set for a up to date review which would be great. Think Dan played them for a while didn’t he ?

The golf companies have no incentive to go this route. I believe they would sell less clubs and make less money if they did. Golfers would buy less clubs separately, for example no need to buy additional wedges and less likely to buy a 3 or 4 iron. @@bfcarrington Good so far, there is an adjustment period that I’m still working through. I don’t have a high swing speed so my 5 iron was coming out a little low but if I hit cuts, no problem. The wedges feel long but work well for full shots they go high. Shots under 80 yards and chip shots around the green have been the most difficult for me to adjust to. I’m not proficient and shortening back swing still feels more comfortable choking down to control distances which defeats the purpose of single length irons.

I use the Cobra Radspeed one lengths. People say "it's hard to get used to the one length" and that is hilarious. You mean having a different ball position in your stance for each club is easier??? Having a slightly different swing for each club is easier??? Most people that "talk" about gapping have never swung the clubs or are playing the clubs like standard lengths. Once you get used to the consistency/simplicity you will never go back.

A few things: 1) why assume all 1L clubs are the same? is a PING game improvement iron same as a Mizuno blade? The Cobras are known for poor gapping, whereas Tom Wishon's clubs are far more advanced 2) Who in their right mind wants to say not to 40% more greens in reg? 3) the MAIN reason people don't buy them is because humans are sheep and we do what we see the golf pros do. If 50% of all pros used them far more people would use them. And pros won't as they grew up on variable and they can't afford to take the time to get used to 1L.
