ONE LENGTH IRONS v TRADITIONAL LENGTH IRONS: WHICH IS EASIER TO HIT? One length or single length irons are meant to be more simple to use but when tested against traditional or variable length irons is this really the case?

I just bought a set of one length irons, love them. But takes some getting used to. I’ll do a video about them soon.

Been playing one lenght for the last 4 years now. Not sure I could ever go back.

I’ve been playing f8 one length for a few months now. It takes some getting used to. But having one swing and one setup for the majority of your clubs in the end really does lead to more consistency. I had the most trouble adjusting to 4 and 5 until I finally trusted the idea to swing the same as with the seven iron. With the same setup and swing, its simply about picking the club that goes the distance you want. I even got the One Length Utility and can get it out there really far so no issues there.

exactly my experience as well. I was expecting the long irons to be beneficial when I switched to SL - but surprisingly, it was the wedges that gave the most improvement.

having played one length for 3 seasons I find the same thing. I'm considering a one length set from 7, maybe 6, down to Lob wedge, and go with standard clubs above that. The 4 and 5 one lengths are generally pretty good, but too often fly low, and need some run out to get the desired distance, even with OL hybrids. Probably great for links golf, but most of the courses I play are parkland, and have raised greens, running the ball up is just not a real option. I'm sort of a backwards golfer anyway since I've never had an issue playing long irons, but have always struggled with thinned short irons/wedges, so I guess it makes sense.

I have a set of F9 cobra one length and I love them. I feel the same as you do the shorter irons are easier to hit for me than the 5 and 6 irons

I’ve had the Sterling one length set for 18 months now (my handicap is 14) Still prefer them over my previous i15’s Good little vid though.

The problem is everyone is used to the variable length so it's hard for them to adjust after just a couple of hits. You need time to get adjusted, mostly mentally. But OL is a great concept and it works given time. I don't fear hitting my long irons anymore. I love it.

you should look into the EDEL SINGLE LENGTH clubs, he built the clubs that Bryson DeChambeau started with through HIGH SCHOOL and collage before he went to COBRA...have a look at his clubs... he has the best shafts and club head... you can change the weight of the club head youself make them lighter or heaver with an ALLEN WRENCH....

As swing speed with irons drops to mid 70 mph it becomes more difficult to get good carry distance gapping with the one length clubs below 26 degrees. That is when you should be considering hybrids, hybrid irons or a 7 Wood.
@TitleistGolf135 жыл бұрын
I think the 1 Length is phenomenal I've actually seen distance gain in my clubs! Maybe that's because I'm hitting it more often in the screws idk! I found it more difficult to find the correct distance gapping in the 8-P so this year I just got traditional 8-P to go along with the 4-7 irons and also purchased a 2i single length! See how it goes this year but I found it so much easier to! Being a single digit not bad! Solid review

Been playing one length radspeeds for a couple of months. I'm not sold on them. Not seeing any increase in consistency, just making things more awkward the closer I get. I do like the added creativity that longer wedges afford around the green, but it's not enough to make me keep them.

I've played trad length irons over 30 years, always struggled with consistency in the long irons. Last replaced 4i with 4hybrid. Just bought F8 OL irons. When testing them found all (5, 7, 9) all easy to hit. Time will tell if it's been a good decision. I'm trying to be more consistent through the bag. I guess that's the goal for most club golfers, and I think OL clubs could give the club golfer the consistency they crave. I admit I was a snob and wouldn't look at OL clubs, I suspect most people are like that. Time to rise above and do yourself a favour.

@@ryanCODMAN No, my wife loves her one-length set, but I've gone back to a standard set of P770s from TaylorMade. I did OK with the 6, 7, and 8, but the other clubs I just wasn't able to get used to.

How does the gapping compare? Because of the differences in length, long irons will have a higher club head speed and higher spin rate and be easier to hit and control. True? At he opposite end, the one length wedge has a higher spin rate and is easier to control?
@yadthink6 жыл бұрын
To me, switching to one-length would be trying to fix something that isn't broken (for me), and perhaps having to get used to shots flying much lower or higher across the set compared to traditional irons.
@kymstock18526 жыл бұрын
How tall are you Ali? Perhaps the Cobra shafts need to be longer for you?
@jagpilotohio6 жыл бұрын
How tall are you? You look pretty tall. Perhaps the ideal set would be traditional length 4,5,6 and one length 7,8,9,P,G. Longer short irons might be more comfortable for your height.

How do they determine what is the length to make them all, let me clear this up do the start say at your normal 7 iron length, and make them all this Lenght ???
@julia-61955 жыл бұрын
As a handicap golfer, I found the one length wedges easier to hit than the variable length wedges and my back gets sore when I practice with them. I tend normally tend to pull wedge shots. With the one length that's not the case. I have better control. The longer clubs I don't have a problem with. I had difficulty with the one-length 4 iron and even the 21 hybrid. The 24 hybrid was okay. I'm certain the 5 iron would be okay as well. I don't have your swing speed. If I need more than 185 yds carry I'll go to a 7W.

The concept and theory behind single length Irons makes complete sense to me, however I am not convinced that the technologies utilised in the club heads and shafts has been fully worked out yet. I still think that the 4 & 5 Irons fly too low and the 9 & PW fly too high, which is a double whammy for me as I tend to hit high wedge shots with graduated length clubs anyway. If the manufacturers can overcome this flight issue then I'm joining the Party

had the sterlings....hit short irons too far too high. long irons were fine. anything below the 5 though were knucke balls. 1 cap. i actually tested the one forged and like the short irons better but there was to little gaping in the longer irons. i think they have fixed this problem a bit in f8 and f9 but only made in bigger cavity back. i dont think there is a one length forged f8 or f9..

With one length irons is the ball position 7 iron posion for all of the irons.
@AliTaylorGolf4 жыл бұрын
Ideally yes, but I did find I still changed ball position when I played one length
@Smile4MyAC1306 жыл бұрын
In your case it's a mental thing. My theory would be 6,8,9,PW you would hit longer cuz of the length. Also if you can hit your 7 iron constantly then you should be able to hit all your clubs the same way.

I have played a full set of OL irons, 5i - LW for two seasons now (Pinhawks and F7 OL)with good results. My average score has gone down and my GIR are up. It took a while to get used to the length of the wedges, but now they are my favorite clubs. And,they have provided me a lot of birdie ops lately. About the only negative I can see is that sometimes the ballwill spin back off the green on downhill par 3's with the more lofted clubs, and soft greens. Most of the time the extra spin off the wedges is great, the ball lands like bean bag on all but the hardest greens. No issues holding greens with the 5i. The gaps are good, and distance control is great. I did play a 4i for a while, but at 20 degrees of loft, strike is pretty critical, there's no getting around that imho. You do need to have some club head speed to get good results with the 4 and 5.
@PaulGPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Hi James, with regards to the wedges did you make any adjustments in your setup etc. I'm finding the one length wedges are taking some time to get used to. More inconsistent at the moment then my variable length wedges. Then again I've only gamed them about a month. Cheers

It seems you never identified what model of Cobra one-length irons you were testing here, and there are three different models. I believe you call them forged at some point which means they would not be the F9 model. I think that the F9 is the model one-length that would be the better one to have tested as it should be longer and higher (which is part of the quality of the I500).

Test is done wrong: you should have alternated the clubs hit to introduce variable length shafts as a factor. I.e. hit a PW, 5, 9, 6 for example. If you just keep hitting the 5i you can adjust in a way you can't on the course.
@stevespenscom6 жыл бұрын
The only way to truly test clubs like this is to have a person who is very new to golf. They always do these tests with someone who has played variable length for years and I don't feel they have a true neutral position in the test.
@AliTaylorGolf6 жыл бұрын
The only challenge for someone new is the inconsistency of strike with any club.

Beware, beware, the Cobra cast SL's. There are fine SL alternatives to Cobra; shop until you find the set that meets your parameters. If you don't have any parameters, then buy Cobra.

I failed to see what you were trying to show there Ali, surely the point of the video should have been what set is easier to hit for the handicap player not you. And comparing the 7 irons? No data whatsoever included? Your conclusion was see what works for you! Sorry but the structure and conclusion of the video should be so much more thought through.

@@JB-ki9ql Like so many reviews of one length irons done by experienced golfer on YT this one bangs on about how they feel different to variable length irons. I agree with Ian Judson. These SL irons are intended for new golfers and higher handicap players to speed their improvement rate. As such, they do work well, especially if the new player has not experienced variable length irons. Call me a dick head too if you like, but I think your opinion is erroneous.
