That is his actual voice. There are videos of him performing live where he shows his range. He also has a one man Les Miserables medley as well as a Newsies medley. He also performed on Ellen a couple of times. He also works at Pixar.

He uses head voice, to sing higher notes louder, just like Chase holfelder, when he does his high note challenges, check him out, he’s even better than Nick. Also, those sopranos in your choir can sing higher than Nick, you just can’t hear his tange properly, cause of the head voice.

Nick Pitera is an animator at Pixar. This is his hobby! He performed the annoyingly catchy jingle in Inside Out. I'm assuming you're aware that Phantom was a musical 20 years before they made the film version?
