I think that if more people do not use social media, or put a very low time limit for use, there will be a huge change in our society, and people will have a lot more mental health, and they will be much more present in their real life.

100%, I really feel like we can partially blame the increase of poor mental health on social media
@user-rz6pd1eo8d3 жыл бұрын
I agree! Social media deflects from the present moment and can encourage silence of the mind. Some cannot handle that because it would force them to face their emotions or circumstances and that may be too intense for some since social media was their distraction. Being present requires mindfulness and that leads to healing and working on mental health.

But during that time I realized that I hate social media. I felt insecure all the time and couldn't stop checking my own body in the mirror comparing it to all the other girls on social media. I felt miserable all the time. I went back to Instagram anyways and posted a photo of myself. I let my self-esteem depend on the number of likes I got. I deleted the photo after an hour because I didn't want the likes to get to me. After that I saw your video and I deleted my social media. Best decision of my life. Here's a quote I love: “The secret of a full life is to live and relate to others as if they might not be there tomorrow, as if you might not be there tomorrow. This feeling has become a rarity, and rarer every day now that we believe we are in touch with a greater amount of people. This is the illusion which might cheat us of being in touch deeply with the one breathing next to us." We think we're keeping in touch with people via Instagram, but I realized that my friends and I were scrolling through the feed while we were physically together. It's scary.

I made my first social media account when I was 9 years old. Yesterday, as an 18 year old, I finally deleted my last social media account (I wasn’t active on it but I decided to take the plunge and get rid of it permanently). I was on social media for half of my life. I can’t help but wonder how different I would have been without it. I think social media ruined my mental health & fucked up my development - but now I’m taking the steps to recover. I’m going to college next year as a psychology major; I want to get a PhD in social psych and study how social media has impacted all of us. Yesterday, when I went to delete my account, I saw the most maddening shit and realized how completely out of touch with reality so many people are because of their social media use. There is a way to use KZbin without getting sucked into recommendation rabbit hole.. Instead of home tab, go to subscription tab. Videos from your subscribed channels are organized in chronological order (newest first). Watch it and log out. Never subscribe to channels which upload everyday. Because, they don't make videos for people. They make videos for algorithm. Comment section is a tricky spot. You can't just deny that. Use it MINDFULLY. There is a difference between Facebook comment section vs KZbin comment section. This is lot better than FB comment section. That's all I can say.

They share memes to each other and have those little inside jokes that I can’t understand cause all of them have come from the social media. My social life also isn’t as active as it used to be. But at the same time this all feels like an enlightenment. I’ve found things that really matter to me and ways to develop myself. I believe there are to kinds of social media realities: the first one is when it gets control over you. I mean, when you lose the power to decide when to start nor when to stop using it, when it's taking hours of your day and impacts long term projects of your life because of instant reward (dopamine adiction). The second reality is when you use it in your favor. For instance, twitter is a good tool to learn about politics or scientific achievements. KZbin is great to teach you about personal development, business and other stuff like that. And, sure there is no problem in watching funny videos or meaningless videos once in a while. It is not bad to have fun or disconnect from the day-to-day problems, but it is healthy only when it's not preventing you from doing things that matter the most.

I was most struck by the fact that at the beginning you said you felt "indifferent", but at the end you said "I feel more human." I would say that is a HUGE improvement in the quality of your life. I'm so happy for you that you see more upside than downside to not having social media. I have always felt that the most destructive part of SM is the approval aspect. It creates a situation where both the content creator and the viewer have to have an opinion about something and the nature of e platform almost demands that you share your opinion. If I watched a video now I must decide what I think about it and I need to comment about it. Nothing necessarily wrong with that, but where it all goes wrong is that the simple act of leaving a comment leads one to look for approval on their opinion. Sometimes one may even read the existing comments BEFORE they will chime in to judge how popular their own opinion may be! And we all know the algorithm favors discourse so many seem to argue with EVERYTHING LOL It is a fascinating psychological phenomenon right!

i remember commenting on your previous video that Ig made me depressed. but just before i got your video recommended i deleted it. my only social media would be yt cuz its the only app that has an option for setting a timer for taking a break. i dont care anymore whats trending rn cuz there are more important and interesting things to pay attention to

Oh wow, so cool! Yeah, the timer on YouTUbe is great! Honestly, I feel like I don't even spend that much time on KZbin now unless I am watching my favs every time they post!

I have one major reason for keep using social media: my girlfriend. A long distance relationship between two people who's not the biggest fans of phonecalls would be a lot more tricky without Snapchat and Instagram. As soon as we've worked some things out and built up a more stable economic situation we'll move in together and I'll have no use for social media any more

I also deleted my social media except youtube. At least here I have control of the content I'm watching contrary to the other platforms which choose for you.

I've been thinking about deleting some of my social medias too but I haven't deleted any of them yet. Thank you for making these videos, especially when you say that we don't have to be so extreme and delete all of them, it's okay to not delete the important one(s). And I know this is kinda random, but your eyes are so pretty

I stopped using social media for 9 straight months because of a breakup and the creeping toxicity of it all. I just got back to delete all my photos, status and tagged photos but I relapsed started using again for 3 straight days and just like that it messed up my mind once again. one of the reasons I didn't delete my account because its the only easy way to communicate with my high school friends . Im 32 years old now and they are busy and mostly working abroad. Im planning to not use facebook again beggining today. What you are doing at a young age is admirable I didn't have the audacity to try this when I was your age and I can say this from experience that social media will not help you grow. be the best you can be without vneeding the validation of any. some of your friends and colleagues will try to makebfun of you because you are trying to so something different but deep inside they will respect you and admire you for doing it.

Honestly, girl, don't mind people thinking about how you do your social media detox, shut them out, and do how you'd like it. I don't care if you still use youtube for personal, business, or any reason, just go use it and have fun with it! What matters is that without social media, you're now contented with your life, and you've improved to be the best person that you needed to be.

I was going through a hard time mentally due to social media, and I was in a dilemma. I wanted to delete my social media, but at the same time I was afraid, I had that fear of missing out. Luckily your other video showed up in my recommended list and it gave me the push which I needed. It has been 2 weeks without social media and I am feeling so much better now. Also, I have not deleted youtube and whatsapp as well because these are the apps I need. I watch educational videos on youtube and use whatsapp to keep in touch with my friends. Thank you so much. I am so happy to have discovered your channel. P.s I'm sorry if my english is not good.

I'm just taking a 1 month break but I'm hoping to use it wayyy less when I do return:))

I definitely agree that KZbin is very very different from social media such as instagram or TikTok. There is so much information on here, and I actually look forward to eating while relaxing and watching a KZbin video. With instagram it's more of an urge to scroll through it, it's not enjoyable but easy, fast and gives a serotonin boost, I suppose. Sometimes Instagram can be nice, e.g. when you want to look for gifts via small businesses, but the "for you page" on there often just makes me feel annoyed and makes me lose a lot of time! I wish I could just delete that part of instagram hehe, guess I'll have to control myself! Sometimes, however, I also get on a bad side of youtube, where most of all the comments make me feel upset. It's important to keep your recommended page under control by only watching things that actually contribute to your day. Great video! you're also very beautiful!!

deleted all my social media accounts last week and today youtube recommended me this video. Believe me social is media is full of toxic content now. I've similar story to you lucy .. also from 2000 ,began using when i was 12, and in last 2 years it was more of a addiction than a funn activity. Dont know about others but but my life has been completely changed in last 2 years due to this pendemic. im becoming more and more reclusive day by day.

That's really impressive you did that, as a pretty girl. Respect for those that do. I'm saying that cus girls in general get such crazy amounts of validation on social media from simps (especially pretty ones), that they can get addicted, and it must be very hard to stop. I can't see it as a big deal for guys tho, cus not using it basically doesn't change anything. But if a girl does it, then respect. It takes actual will power. Instantly see a girl as higher quality (More loyal, trustworthy, intelligent) if the doesn't have it.

The thing about YT, despite it being indeed addictive, is that you're more likely to learn something useful from it from various 'constructive' content creators like you, whereas on FB/IG that probability decreases dramatically(not to mention theit other detrimental effects on overwall wellbeing I've been having prolonged sabbaticals aka long periods of deactivating FB/IG ~2 months in the last year or so, and really 90% why I still haven't deleted them is because of IG DM & FB Messenger as they're the major means for me to connect with most friends of Late Millenials/Gen Ys(which I'm one myself) & Gen Zs around the world, though I currently have nothing else on social media. So in your terminology- 80% social media-free for me!

I'm 18 years old and i stopped social media 4 days ago and i don't plan on coming back. I feel like this is is a turning point in my life. It's like getting out of the matrix. I truly believe that people who are not addicted to social media will have an advantage in life than those who are. Especially for this génération who grew up with it. I also vowed not to do weed and porn anymore but these things don't really compare to social média as i didn't do these things nearly as much as i did social media. I feel like my emotions are more present like i'm less numb to things. Which can definitely be tough at times but it's worth it in the end.

I saw the other video just yesterday and decided to delete my all social media except for Insta (i have a photography & art account) on June 1st. I'm 30 and I'm pretty sure I've been addicted to all kinds of Internet stuff since age 11. I've felt exactly like you described it, so sad about the lost time and creativity. My mental health isn't good at the moment. I hope it'll improve. Twitter is the hardest one for me, it's like my second home. I did give my friends on there my phone number, so that should be ok. Watching videos on KZbin will be a problem though. I'll see if there's a way to decrease the time spent on here. Thanks for the very interesting update and all the best for you! ♡

I deleted mine (except KZbin) over 6 months ago. It has been liberating but very depressing at the same time. I have realized that there are now two planes of existence...one in the real physical world and another online. Unfortunately, more people are engaged with online and now that I am based in the physical world, I practically do not exist. It is lonely out here, but paradoxically, I am much happier without all of the negativity that is cultivated and forced upon you in the online realm. There is a lot to elaborate on this topic...but overall I'd say it was worth it and I won't go back.

Really enjoyed watching this video and it came at a good time, so thanks! I've tried to limit my social media use to only 30-minutes a day but have regressed since making that promise. Watching this reminded me of the things that I'd like to capture more of (creativity, calm, etc) and definitely something I'll be more intentional about again! Just like you said, it's not a 0 to 100 thing for everyone, we all are different and just hearing you say that helped lessen the pressure. Thanks!

To add the comment that you shouldn't go to the extreme: If you for example use Facebook for business or feel it is very important to you to stay connected, you can delete it from your phone, and keep it on the PC/laptop. Here, you can install plug-ins that remove the newsfeed, so you don't end up endlessly scrolling down, and you will find it is almost the same as deleting the social media. It is very useful for me when I use KZbin, where I have removed all recommended videos, so I don't end up in a deep hole spending countless hours ending on TikTok compilation videos... Only once in a while do I turn it off and find precious gems like this one 💎
