Some 25 years ago i bought a new 572 and during a 5 day camping trip, an extractor broke on the first day. I ended up getting rid of that gun for a number of reasons but I always kind of missed it. Once i found out my brother really liked it, I got him a cherry used one for his 40th birthday. He loved it... and shot it lots ... and left it back to me, as he's been gone for 2 years now. I never been a Remington guy, but I do like that one in with the herd.

Well, I am sure you can see that my son and I are both Remington fans, but we prefer the older Remingtons from the 70's early 80's. I love both of these 22 rifles. I consider these my prize possessions. Of course, these will go to Jerod probably, at least I know one of them will. My other son will get the other one. Yes, some of the parts are fragile and that extractor claw I believe is one of those. That is one reason that most of my Remingtons now stay in the safe. They come out every once in a while for a cleaning or maybe take to the farm and shoot some rounds and then clean them. I totally understand how you feel about that one. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie

John, I guess I fall into that category of old timers now. LOL I have owned a few Winchesters over the years but gotten rid of them to get other ones. This is one of those times that I wish I still had the old Winchester 94 that I had back in 40+ years ago. I picked it up at a pawn shop, it was an old one. I also wish I still had the old Marlin 336 that I had 40+ years ago, it had an octagon barrel, the top of the receiver wasn't drilled and tapped for a scope, in fact the top of the receiver had wavy lines down the receiver. There has been a lot of nice firearms that I wish I still had. Thanks for watching and commenting, John. Juddie - J & J TOA

I believe that your 572 was made in 1966. I have one that dates from the late sixties and it has the same rear sight. My dad had a 742 from 68 and it also had that same rear sight. Remington sometime in the mid to late seventies changed their rear sights to a ramp style which I think they still use today. I enjoyed your video. Thanks

Matthew, I did some further investigation after I did this video and I have confirmed that the 552 was made in April 1976 and the 572 was made in March of 1966. In 1980 Remington shortened the barrel on the 552 to 20-1/2 inches and mine has the 23-1/2 inch barrel. I knew the newer 572's and the 572's sites changed but didn't know exactly when. Appreciate you watching and commenting on the video and the information you provided. Juddie - J & J TOA

My 572 has the newer rear sight and according to the date code it was made in 1984. Yet it still looks brand new. They're definitely heirloom quality guns. And they aren't making any more.

The Remington 552 was my first gun. I got it when I was 9 I’m now 55 and still have it. On a side note. The BDL is the deluxe version ( checkering better sights) and the ADL is the plain version. The same goes for the 700’s. Except the BDL version has a backplate and the ADL doesn’t.
@JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures Жыл бұрын
That is great that you still have that 552. My first gone was a 12-gauge single shot shotgun that my mother bought for me when I was 13 yrs old. I know it was made in Brazil and she purchased it from Heck's Department store. As for the BDL's, I knew that the BDL grade was the deluxe versions and had better sights, the checkering and generally a higher quality finish on the stocks. I do wish that the 552 I have was the BDL version, then I would have the whole BDL series of Remingtons. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Well, we try to get in the woods some, really don't want to do a lot of disturbing after season. But we start looking for deer trails, especially when there has been some snow, and we start setting out game cameras. In fact, we are supposed to head to the mountain in the Monongahela National Forest either this weekend or the next to check cameras we left on the last day of buck season December. Up there we tend to go about every 3 months to check those. On the lease we may go about once a month to check our cameras we have setup there. That's a couple very nice Remington .22 rifles. I've never owned any Remington .22 rifles myself but grew up hunting with my cousins Marlin model 60 which is a tack driver. When I grew up and he wanted it back I got a Ruger 10/22 and that has been an equally great rifle as well. I love watching these videos on guns during the non hunting months of the winter as it helps pass the time till we can all be back out hunting although I've been Bobcat hunting and no luck so far. I really want to have a full body mount of a Bobcat. I never saw them as a kid but they're population is thriving now in Vermont. I have seen many on my property but just not during legal hunting season LOL! You'll have that...if hunting was easy everybody would do it. Take care Juddie and yes I know what 870 and 1100 Remingtons look like but still would watch a video or 2 of yours. Hey we are gun enthusiasts we can't help it! Jamie

Thanks, Jamie. I have hunted with the Marlin Model 60, in fact I had it about 9 years ago and gave it to my daughter-in-law, I think. I also have currently a Ruger 10/22 and I really like it. We are allowed to hunt bobcats; I just have never done it. I have seen them while deer hunting, both in bow season and rifle season. These firearms are tools of the trade if you're a hunter. So many have asked what I hunt with. As I said in another video right now the Remington 700 is my primary rifle of choice. Appreciate you watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA

Anyways wished i bought both but it is what it is . They were selling a little over 700 each but again iam.happy with the 552 and using the easy fill 15 round speedloaders ita a breeze loading . So much better than loading clips like a 10/22

They are awesome rifles for sure, Joseph. I know the price of these have really jumped up over the years. It would have been nice to gotten both of them, but I know how it can be when it comes to buying firearms. It is nice to load a bunch of rounds down the tube verses loading a rotary magazine, like the Ruger. What is nice about both the 552 and the 572 is that you can run 22 shorts, longs and long rifles thru them. Hold onto that one for sure, maybe you can find the 572 in as good as shape and get it. Since Remington closed in 2020, I see the prices going up and up. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie.

Eric, I want to take out my 572 or even my 552, but it is hard to bring myself to do that. I have the Norinco JW-15 (clone of the CZ 452) that I squirrel hunt with, and I have an old Remington Model 514 single shot that I could use. I kind of use the 514 just to take out and shoot some actual rats that tries to steal my dog's food in the back yard. I used to have a Marlin Model 60 about 8 or 9 years ago and I let my daughter-in-law have it. You know if I would do that on an auction, I wouldn't win any of them. LOL I might do a video on the muzzleloader, especially since it smashed my finger this year (black nail on middle finger). @JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures Жыл бұрын
@@robbys416 you are right Robby, a 700 is a 700. The biggest difference when it comes to the 700's is whether it is ADL grade or BDL grade. The way you can tell that is the ADL will not have a floorplate on the bottom of the stock, and the BDL has a floorplate that will open so you can remove the loaded rounds without having to work the bolt each time. The biggest difference in the 30-06 and the 270 is the bullet diameter size. You can actually take a 30-06 brass casing and make it into a 270 just by resizing the throat of the case. You have an excellent rifle and chambered in a great cartridge.
