My mother bought a Remington 552 in 1959. I was 10 years old at the time. I hunted with that rifle for many years. Mom was a crack shot herself, and we had many hours of plinking fun with that rifle. Sadly the gun disappeared when she passed away. I am the only child so I don't know where the gun went unless mom took it with her. Thank you so much for this video sir. It sure brought back some wonderful memories.

Many years ago, Ray Judge's Gun Shop In Tenn built me a bull barreled 10/22 that was a fantastically accurate gun. this was in the mid 70's. Many years before Ruger came out with a heavy barreled competition style one. I once saw a takedown Browning .22 that a bull barrel on it, (custo made of course, and always wanted to try that out. Sadly, A.T. Uragan Air Gun with my own cast slugs would make you throw rocks at any of those groups. It will hold tighter than that at 100 Yards. But then again it cost a whole lot more than those three all put together. A lot more. LOL! Most accurate .22 I've ever owned was a bull barreled Anschutz. It was unreal!!! KnifeMaker

Good testing. I am familiar with the wax lube on CCI and the thinner lube on SK. I like SK ammo as well. One thing that has improved my grouping is when changing from one ammo to another is to shoot at least one fouling shot (two is better) and then start your new group. The first shot with different ammo will usually not be with the actual zero of the following shots, at least that has been my experience. I have a 552 and it is a sweet shooter. I only have the Ruger 10/22 out of these three in this video but it's a fun little shooter. I swapped the polymer furniture with Magpul and I swapped the factory iron sights with HiViz 3-dot sights. I might add an optic or scope of some sort in the future but for now, it works well enough. I have 4 of the 25 rd mags and when going through all 4 of them at the range, I usually have one, sometimes two jams but the 10 rd mags generally operate flawlessly and I have twenty of those so I don't have to waste time reloading when at the range. 😁 Edit: I've only been using Federal Automatch ammo with my 10/22 so maybe what few jamming issues I've had with it is ammo related. With my Ruger MkIV, I've had absolutely flawless operation after nearly 3K rds of shooting only CCI mini mag.

I have owned three 10/22's last one was bought new three years ago and was the best of the three. In 79 I bought a Marlin/Glenfield model 60 with squirrel stock and Rough Rider badge inlay. I also have my father's Remington 550-1 that was bought by him used in 1950. All three guns are fantastic shooters. Due to let's say sentimental issues I no longer hunt with Dad's gun nor do much plinking because it was dads and will be handed down to my kids. Same goes for my Model 60 it was the first gun I ever bought and like the 550-1 is all original no parts nor repairs have ever been replaced/performed on either rifle. The 10/22 was bought to take over hunting and plinking duties and though it is only a few years old and shoots fantastically it has already had to have the trigger assembly replaced. The 10/22 is the most finnicky of the three about ammo but not that bad really just comparatively to the others. Don't think I do not ever shoot the Marlin or Remington anymore because I do take them out to the range on occasion and put a few rounds down-range. The best groups I get is with the Model 60, but I have to admit I have put more rounds through that gun than any I own. I hunted with the Marlin starting the day I bought it till a few years ago when I basically retired it so yeah, I should get the best groups with it. All that aside I love the three I mentioned here but they aren't all the 22 rifles I have. Gotta love .22's best gun ever for small/medium game, varmint, control, and plinking.

Great video, I love all 22's, you highlight the best of the USA, but some old European guns will deliver as good if not better...the fun is in shooting different loads to find the sweet spot...then hunting, A good video would be comparing 22 scopes side by side, there is a great difference in models affordable to the platforms you compared, and some will enhance, some will degrade. Love your channel and watch it as a favorite.

Thanks! There are so many rimfire scopes out there, I suppose I could gather a few for a comparison review.

Marlin60 has a tough trigger. It can be improved greatly with some sear and trigger work. There is (or used to be) info on Rimfire Central about how to do it.

Ruger 1022 is an amazing gun especially if you plan on modding it. If you like a very well built classic looking 22 the speedmaster can’t be beat out of the box it’s awesome. You really need to shoot one for awhile to fully appreciate what it is. It’s so easy to clean and it’s holding its own well against the out of the box accuracy of the marlin model 60. If you have the funds for a speedmaster it’s very nice. I’ve shot all 3 and have had the least jams by far with the speedmaster. There’s pros and cons to each one and I’d say the biggest con of the speedmaster isn’t its accuracy, reliability or ease of cleaning but rather its price. You can buy and very nice 10-22 for that amount of money. I think the speedmaster is the most well built of the 3 and definitely most reliable.

.The Speedmaster is indeed a handsome rifle. I wonder if Remington will continue making it now that they are based in Georgia instead of Ilion NY?

@@CumberlandOutdoorsman I’m not sure. Congress or whatever has been talking about the non detachable tube mags that hold over 10 rounds. I think they want to declare them assault weapons lol

Being 74 years old and raised in the San Fernando Valley of California and experienced a life of always being able to feed myself. That included having a garden and growing tomatoes, potatoes, spinach and chard, corn 🌽. We had an Avocado tree when we moved into the house. I raised Chickens for their eggs, and didn’t eat chicken for food, rabbits were everywhere and I got them by using thin copper wire and snared them when they came out of their holes and it was usually around the neck. Ground Squirrels were everywhere and posed a real problem basically because of the holes they make, all cattle have hoofs and when they stepped in the hoofs get stuck in the hole and gets ripped off, needless to say this is terrible. I bought my first 22 rifle at the Hardware store in Town with the money I got from the ground squirrels tails which was 10 cents per tail. It was a Marlin 39 level action 22 caliber rifle and after I put a scope on it nothing was safe. I the days and years went by and CCI came out with the Stinger 33gr at almost 1700fps . The level of efficiency was mind bogging. I often would make shots from 20 yards to 100 yards and always used headshots.

Many many years ago I owned a 552 but the the barrel came loose and I have since turned to bolt action rifles . I do have a 10/22 sporter but the accuracy is not there. My recent purchase of a CZ 457 with 28 inch barrel gives one hole groups with iron sights at 25 yrds .

I bought my first gun, a Marlin 60, in 1984 with my own money at the Potosi Walmart. Turns out I couldn't buy it myself because I was to young but my dad made the purchase for me I've recently revived my interest in .22 rimfire and along with replacing the recoil buffer and trigger group in the model 60, i bought a Henry H001 that will chamber short, long, & long rifle. It is of course a lever gun and is so pretty I hate to take it out. But with the CCI 22 short Sub-Sonic Low Noise, it is so quiet.... Ive had to use it on a varmit or two that was after the chickens and they dont even know what is happening, face it, we keep shooting till it stops moving with a .22. Neighbors wont hear a thing, not that I have any very close but if I went out with a shotgun or .223, they would hear that and we just dont need that kind of attention do we??😊 Nice video. I think my Marlin does abit better groups but it is very dependent on the ammo. Ive never heard of SK, ill check it out.

I bought my Rem. 552 Speed Master new back in 1974. I believe it has a 21 inch barrel. shoots Shorts, Longs and Long Rifle ammo. It's my favorite also. I also own 2 different Distributer Special 1022's . One is a Sporter model with a 21 inch barrel. I have own Marlin's also. I also own a Winchester Espert Model, Bolt action with a 10 rd, rotary mag. It shoots good also. I never own a 22 that I didn't like.

Hello my friend. Because of the huge amount of after market parts for the 10/22, I would say that is the most popular. But I will say, the Marlin model 60 is most likely the most sought after and appreciated. Keep well and raise hell. Dave & The Girls.

Every guns shoots a bit differently. Every now and then I find that a gun really likes a certain round. For me the CCI Standard velocity round is the one I compare all others too. It's rare that I find a brand that shoots remarkably better. Where I live the woods are thick so shots are 20 to 30 yards. Sometimes closer, rarely further. If I lived where the shots are 40 or 50 yards then my choice of ammo might be different. Thanks for the video.

I see that your 552 has the ejection sheild for a left hand shooter. I have my dad's 552. It has that sheild and the safety has been switched too. I agree with you about the 552 being extremely accurate. My Marlin 75C isn't as accurate as the 552 but the Marlin has put dinner on the table more than once. Thanks for the video.

2nd shot 2nd group with the 552 looked like a flyer. Remington has always made fine 22s. The 552 also has the advantage of shooting shorts, longs and long rifles interchangeably. I have a 550-1 that does as well. It is very accurate as well.
@Old_Sailor8510 ай бұрын
Have all three. The Remington is a BDL, or Deluxe, so it's miles ahead as far as looks. It's also a takedown, so the scope is mounted separately from the barrel. My Ruger is newer, so full of plastic. Model 60 may be a decade or so old, so also newer. None will come close to my Kimber Model 82. If the wind is down it can hit a nickel at 100 yards.

I can’t wait for you to do a video on cleaning the Remington 552 Speedmaster so I can see where and how that rubber buffer and retainer fits together. I am going to have it by July 30, 2024 coming from Alberta to Ontario Canada Post. I’m going to strip it down to clean,it check it,assemble it. Mount the scope that came with it on and cite it in. And then go get me some squirrels. 🐿️ 😏

What barrel length would you prefer on a .22LR if you could have your choice? Have you observed a velocity increase of any significance with 20-22" barrels versus the standard 18.5 inch?

I have that 552 in the BDL version and regardless of the ammo in LR or short it’s a tack driver at 50 yrds 4x scoped. Own a 10/22 also and can’t say one bad thing about it except it won’t shoot shorts😀

I’ve seen 7-11 stores on opposite corners. I asked why. The clerk that I asked worked regularly at both stores. The answer was customer preference. They had very, very few customers in common. I said that to say this. If it was my decision, I’d absolutely build both rifles if it was profitable. I’d never buy a Marlin I love my 10/22.

Every rifle has its favorite load . It appears that the rear sight blade is in contact with the scope tube on the 10/22 . Those blades usually fold down , and the rifle "may" shoot more accurately without contact . Worth a look . I have high regard for CCI SV , and SK Standard Plus . Both are very consistent . Recently tried some Aguila SE 38g HP that were also very consistent in a couple of rifles . Always look forward to your videos . GR8 information and some of the tips are priceless . Best wishes and keep up the good work Gunny .

I thought the same thing in regards to the rear sight, and though it looks like it is touching the scope, it's not. There is about 1/16th inch of space.

The Ruger 10/22 Carbine is in a class by it's self compared to all other common .22 rifles. Magazine fed, easy to field strip breaks down into components like a military rifle. lots of add on parts made for them. That makes it the best common .22LR rifle in the world.

I had a mod 60 that i dunked the bore and all moving parts in sweetshooters, in a steel trough, put in a oven at 130 degrees, for a week. Then did the same thing, with molybdenum disulfide paste. With a 6 x 24 scope, and depending on ammo....and i tested all 22 ammo.... It was half moa or better, at 100, for 5 shot groups, not 3. The biggest problem with 22s is, there's so many different brands and types of 22 ammo, that u can test day in and day oyt, for a couple weeks, to find, say, 5 brands and types of ammo, your rifle will sub moa with.
