Thank you for making this video. Another great English translation that I have enjoyed is the “Universal Message of the Bhagavad Gita” by Swami Ranganathanand of Ramakrishna Mission. It comes in 3 volumes. The introduction to the Gita itself is 90 pages long and has completely blown my mind with its simplicity, depth and the sheer relevance to modern times and sets the tone for the core chapters of the Gita to follow. Also, It provides great references to many leading western figures that had a great appreciation for the teachings of the Gita. It’s worth a read.

@@binitasahoo3872 In 18.41 of bhagavad gita Sri Krishna said" Brahmana Ksyatriya visam Shudrana ca parantapa karmani pravibhaktani svabhavair gunah" which means the varna (occupation) system arises because of svabhava and gunas , and it is strictly not on the basis of their birth and the hierarchy or family in which they were born . Suppose one person is a shudra his children can be a great Brahmana. Shrauta sutras says engineers are shudras ie one who do service is a shudra . I know about varna Ashrama dharma. I can be wrong about Sri Madhusudana saraswati , I have only heard about his commentary from one of my friends and I had not read about it and verified. So Sorry! For what I said about Madhusudana saraswati. I would always say to read Bhagavad Gita by Gita press . One can read also bhagavad gita with adi shankaracharya commentary. The Bhagavad I have is of the commentary of adi shankaracharya only and I have read chapter 1 to 5 , Chapter 11,12 and 18 of it .It seems to me great to read it.

Whatever makes you heads in heels love with the speaker of the Bhagavad Gita, Sri Krishna is the best translation. That is the guhyatamam(supreme secret) of Bhagavad Gita as mentioned in 18.64. To think of Sri Krishna as one's life and soul is the substance of the Gita. Anything else having an idea to propagate something else is adhamam no matter how it is ornamented, scholarly presented or even popular.

I have bought and am still buying the Gita Press publications of The Ramayana, The Srimad BhagavadGita, and the Bhagvatha Purana to give as gifts. These translations are as close to the original as I can find. When a choice needs to be made they choose verity over fluency. A few changes could be thought of, which are now feasible with the passing of time and our growing reversion to our roots. For example words in Samskritham that do not have an exact equivalent in English should be left in Samskritham itself. Example Paramatma should be used as is and not translated into “God”.

I don't understand why people keep arguing about which is the best Bhagavad Gita translation. All Bhagavad Gita translations with commentaries are biased according to their Sampradayas. Read all of them and then come to the conclusion yourself which appeals to you the best. The best Bhagavad Gita is the Sanskrit one. Ideally, one should read the Sanskrit Bhagavad Gita along with a Sanskrit Dictionary and make sense of each Sanskrit word by themselves. That is the best way to understand Bhagavad Gita.

The English transliteration I've read is by Swami Prabhavand and Christopher Isherwood entitled THE SONG OF GOD and written in 1944. It is in blank verse. It was my first book on the subject, before I read the sanskrit.

As far as I know this version by Eknath Easwaran is one of the most simple, beautiful and elegant translations out there. Short and precise. But may not be very accurate and it does not provide an in-depth explanation for the verses. All in all - a very good option for the casual reader but not so much for a serious seeker. It is a very good starting point for someone who is new to the religion.

The best exposition is Essays on the Gita by Sri Aurobindo. Next in its light Anilbaran Roy's. Next, Paramahansa Yogananda s English commentary. Next, Jnaeswari by sant Jnaneswar. In Telugu, the best is by Sri Malayala Swami.

Sir, insofar as translation is concerned, word meaning may be ok to get Sanskrit text translated to understand it in the language known to one. But I feel Gita Presss version is based on Sri Sankara Bhashyam because it was Sankara who wrote commentaries on the Prasthana Trayam, viz. the Gita, Brahma Sutra and the Upanishads. This is based on his learning from his Guru parampara. Later Acharyas either disagreed or modified the opinion of Sankara. It is better to know the original version of Sankara Bhagavadpada and then follow others or form own opinions. Hariom.

the above video failed to hightlight one important point that in Gita itself it is explained which gita one should read >>> Krishna says.... One needs to listen to an acharya (not sanskrit scholar or some author with good translation skills) who has a parampara that is beginning from krishna and connected to himself....also there is one more condition krishna tells before listening from an acharya...Krishna says "one has to serve the acharya whole heartedly with a humble nature and enquire from him the transcendental knowledge".

Bhagwat Geeta's translation is by what one perceives from it. Geeta can be translated through Karm yog, gyan yog, and bhakti yog. So there are many dimensions in which it can be translated. No two-person Gyan, karm, or bhakti can be the same.

@@me081company Dear brother, I understand what you mean, but after my deep analysis of Prasthanatraya along with sada-darshan. I'm saying this brother .. I've understood several gitas like Yam gita, avdhoot gita, ashtavakra gita, Kapil gita, Hans gita, bhikshu gita, RIBHU gita, ganesh gita, Devi bhagwat gita, shiv gita, iswara gita along with Sri Ram gita and srimad Bhagavad Gita...by the grace of bhagwan Sri Narayan Hari... Even I'm studying BRAHMASUTRA.. I'm not saying these to flaunt my ego. Just saying this fact...that all three methods GNANA, BHAKTI and KARMA are equally important and altogether they lead to ultimate liberation or salvation called MOKSHA or MUKTI....
