The 465 was first introduced in the 1990 catalog for 199.95. In the 1993 catalog, the price was reduced to 169.95. In the 1994 through 1996 catalogs, the price was 169.99. From 1990 through 1994, the 465 carried the brand name Realistic. In the 1995 and 1996 catalogs it was labeled with Radio Shack. In the 1997 catalog, the 465 was replaced with the 485 for 179.99. The 485 featured a LCD display screen.

I purchased my TRC-465 in December 1991 and still have it today. I have done some research and the "Radio Shack" name first appeared on the TRC-465 in the year 1995.

I own 2 of those Realistic 465. One with the original red numbers display and the other one with custom blue numbers display. Great side band talkers. Get it professionally re-aligned and tuned, and it is definitely worth keeping.

Cool find! I have the 485 they made and have been having fun with it. Just today, I stopped in a gas station and noticed two pickup trucks with pretty new looking CB antennas on them, and I’ve noticed other trucks throughout the county that have CB antennas on them too. Doubt it will go mainstream again, but there does seem to be a growing number of people getting into them

Had 1 in each family's main vehicle shortly after they came out. Range with clear audio was fantastic and outperformed many mobile CBs with rf amplifiers. When the finals in each radio finally went the way no longer any local cb shops nor Radio Shack stores in business.

This was my first CB since the 80s. In 2020 a guy across the state was clearing out his garage, and offered me the radio for free. It took me 6 very hot hours on my Kawasaki to get there and back, but it was well worth it. I had it tuned up at a local shop for just a few bucks , hooked it up to a mag mount antenna on the metal roof of my house, and started talking with people in England. Performance wise it is better than either my Uniden 980 or my President McKinley. An amazing unit from back in the heyday of CB radios!

Love the radio (and its relative, Uniden PC-122), love the hand mic, hate the 5-pin DIN 😉. When this first came out, the radio was branded "Realistic", and the later models were "Radio Shack". If I had to estimate, I think there are far less 465's branded "Radio Shack", than "Realistic". It, along with the PC-122/122XL have been the smallest am/ssb radios ever made (although surface mount boards are changing that). Thanks for the video! I've owned quite a few of these little gems, but never one branded "Radio Shack".

Great little c b radio l have had a number of radio shack and realistic radios and they work really well l have been on c b radio since 1969 the first radio l used was a tokia 5 watt six channel hand held walkie talkie but in the 1970s l used realistic and radio shack radios great video as always Ray cheers

This is the radio that got me started in radio ! Man I’d love to find one. !! My grandfather had one in a conversion van. And when it blew the engine. Me and my brother would. Keep the battery charged just so we could use the cb !!

Best I remember the board is similar to the cobra 146 mobile. Its an ok rig for 11 meters. It is modifiable for xtra channels BUT it is hard to align and very narrow banded. As a legal 40 channel cb it works pretty good. 73 GOD bless Earnest K5EWM.

I have one of those . And I love it . There is a modulation limiter in the circuite . That means it was not meant for a power Mike . So don’t hook one up . Stick with the standerd DYNA MIC .

You can view old Radio Shack catalogs online to find the year they changed the branding from Realistic to Radio Shack with that radio. I have a Realistic branded TRC-465. They are great little sideband radios.

I had a C.B. back in the 70s. I started CB ing when I was 14years old back in 1974 then for my 15th B-day my mom and dad got me a Peirce Simpson Bobcat 23c that I used as a base. At 16 I put that Bobcat in my car, and got a President Dwight D. for my Base. I'm really thinking about getting back into C.B. and maybe GMRS. If you decide to sell that Radio Shack radio let me know, that might be a good starting place for me. KYS-0882 the Pink Panther I'm clear and 10-8.

Some just doesn't realize that Realistic/Radio Shack CB's mostly were made by Uniden. That is why they are good radios. I have a TRC-427 that I'm about to recap, also by Uniden which similarly the same as the Cobra 25 GTL.

The 1A5 sticker is a date of manufacture sticker. The first is the month, January and the last number is the last number of the year so probably January 1985 or 1995. I doubt they had one in 2005. The letter is just a separator.

I would recommend getting a long wire antenna or a MLA-30+. Shortwave really depends on a good antenna.

Youre not looking right , sir . There is an indicator for the keying circuited . But there is no modulation indication until you look at the other leds . Note : when transmitting , the LEDs do light when you talk , but like I said , there is an automatic modulation control circuit . The reason is as radio shack describes it , is to keep your modulation clean and clear . Reasonable right ? Until you do as I warned you about . My radio ( TRC465 ) , the modulation circuite stopped working . The keying circuite works fine , but it won’t modulate . I’m currently trying to figure that out . But radio shack doesn’t offer schematics with its products . So I’m lost . Perhaps you can help me ?
