Hands down the best basketball ball shoe IMO. I had a nice rotation of Kobe 5's to play in so each pair could be preserved. If it had a drop in sole & grip of the NXT it would be the best bball shoe period.

I have a lot of kobe sneaker memories, he's my all time favorite player, but one memory that match with the talk of this video could be that I actually wore my OG black adidas The Kobe with a suit back in 2001, just like Kobe did in the commercial for that shoe. Taking about the Kobe 5, sadly I never had one, being from Mexico City makes difficult getting a lot of basketball shoes, not all of the releases get down here. The Kobe 5 protro never got on Nike website for us and short after the release he passed away, making impossible to get them from another retailer or reseller at a decent price. Great video guys! Absolutely agree. I think he cut her off but the design was alot more versatile in the Jordans and even Tinker Hatfield said they wanted to achieve the on-court/off-court look. I own the lifestyle version on the Kobe 6 tooling (The Zoom Kobe Icon) and it was great to wear casually and even play pick up in. I wish basketball shoe design was more versatile stylistically. I think people would be willing to pay more if they looked cooler and knew they'd get a good amount of wear out of them.

Kobe’s were the best looking shoes in the time they came out. I still think they are (could be bias). The Kobe 4-9 all were great looking casual shoes. If I’m dressing up and I’m gonna use sneakers, it’s my original Kobe 4’s. I’ve probably worn them less than 50 times since I bough them when they came out. I bought two pairs, one to play in and one to keep nice.

I loved the vegan sneakerhead discussion and I definitely appreciate and respect your guys’ takes. I myself have been a vegetarian/vegan since I was 11, the same year I started playing basketball seriously. I’m now 26. As a kid I didn’t think much about the materials of my ball shoes and wore all kinds of leather. In my late teens I decided to completely stop wearing all animal products. I don’t necessarily seek out shoes that LOOK like leather ball shoes, but I do like having the option to wear fully synthetic versions of ball shoes that classically are made of leather. I’m not mad at the amount of fully synthetic ball shoes available, I just wish these companies were more upfront about materials and make it clear when they are producing shoes that are synthetic that look like leather.

My absolute FAVORITE shoe to hoop in. I had the original white, black, and gray joints. I loved how supportive/light they were being a low top and something I felt like I could sprint and stop on a dime in. If I could find a pair of originals at a decent price to take care of/wear casually, I would cop in a second.

Kobe 1 are my favorite then I would say Kobe 5. And Kobe is by far my favorite player of all times. I wear my favorite sneakers casual, represent Kobe in his prime. And the Kobe 5 is a dress up shoe. The way people feel about Jordans people feel about Kobe's.

The shoe that made me fall in love playing in lows. Had the ink cw. Wish I doubled up back then. I wanted the chaos, bruce lee and draft day cw’s too. 😍👌🏽 On a side note. I liked all cw’s of that shoe. 😅 I prefer something firmer to play in as well. It is easier to move and run with something firmer, plus it teaches the body to rely on it’s “natural cushioning.” Brilliant move by Kobe with the Protro’s. Making his old shoes better for the present time. 👌🏽

I played in both the OG and the Protro, and I feel like both are really just that elite. OGs might be slightly better for me personally but it's probably my nostalgia, still enjoyed the Protro a lot and damn that Cushlon in the heel feels amazingly close to a Zoom unit😲

@@winstonwolfwhiteshoes sole is good, but due to its pattern it maybe a bit slippery on some floors. Make sure to always have your outsole clean especially from dust. My issue was eventually I had to re-glue soles as the outsole got separated from the midsole. Then you are good to go.

The zoom Kobe 5 is the best basketball shoe I ever hooped in. @me I had the draft day Kobe's in 2010 or 2011, I remember them because I got them at an outlet in Florida for $65. Best purchase ive ever made for shoes. The dame 4s are #2 to me. P.S I was in hs at that era, and I only used the 4s and 5s to hoop in during lunchtime or in the gym, I rarely wore them for casual, I would wear my aqua 8s or true blue 3s during that time for casual. I'm also a bigger Kobe fan than MJ.

The Kobe 5s are such a great hoop shoe, so enjoyed playing in them back in the day. My wife and daughter are both vegetarian, it’s all about the looks without harming the animals, sometimes it’s shoes that look like they are leather, but oftentimes not, the look is the primary thing regardless

I think you guys are both right when it comes to wearing Kobe’s for casual use. Me being a die hard Kobe fan, i rarely wear my Kobe’s casually. But not because I don’t think that they would look dope. Kobe’s look really good with casual fits. It’s just that I’d rather take a Kobe’s and hoop and them. Like Chris said Kobe’s are one of the best basketball shoes to hoop in and I 💯 percent agree. That’s why I’d rather just use them for on court. But if knew they were still releasing Kobe’s like the last few years and nobody was trying to resell his shoes for dumbs amount of money, I would be wearing my Kobe’s out all the time.

I actually wear my kobes casually all the time & get many compliments... usually wear them with joggers or Jean's & good to go. They obviously aren't as versatile as Jordan's, but can still pull off with almost anything on any occasion. Now that the value of Kobe shoes skyrocketed, my only option is to wear them casually & keep for a long time. So I say they're ok to wear casually especially now, not just a basketball sneaker anymore.

I was/am a Kobe guy but my game in 2009-2018 was all slashing. All Kobe’s just never cut it, including these, but they were what I wanted. Had to go with Lebrons each and every time even though I do not like Lebron. Just too sad that I missed out on these and the entire line.

I live in los angeles. You're BOTH RIGHT. Out here dudes wear kobes like Jordan's. Esp the early models 1-6! Ill give you an example. My teammate would wear his Draft Day Kobe 4 to the game, and hoop in his Undefeated Multi Color Protro or the Grinch Protro. So many laker fans wear kobes to the games with a jersey and jeans/joggers...

I can weigh in here. I was vegetarian for 18 months from late-2017 to mid 2019. I did so for moral reasons that, based on how much I loved & cared for my dogs and am passionate about domestic animal welfare (cats, dogs etc.), who was I to say that their lives were more important than those of a pig, cow or sheep. So my vegetarian diet was not necessarily for health or taste reasons, more for moral and environmental reasons. I always loved the laste of meat and since going back to being a meat-eater, I still love some of my favourites like a cheeseburger or chicken nuggets. Sometimes though it was nice to even get somewhat of a taste of the meat without actually eating the meat. That's why I can understand the point of wanting the look of leather without actually having the leather. Furthermore, I understand the point Jodi is making that a Jordan Retro is just VIEWED as an off-court sneaker, even though you can still play in them. Just like the Kobe Protros are VIEWED as an on-court sneaker even though you can rock them off court.

I hella used to wear my shoes off court. When I only had enough to buy one shoe a year, I always made sure it was something that looked dope and I could hoop in. My go to back in the day was the Carpe Diem Kobe 4s. Picked them back up when the protro came out. I only wear them casually now though.

@@WearTesters I know this video is old. But I've just watched it for the first time. Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude-as far as is possible and practicable-all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose. It's the moral stance, something which is done for animals, not for oneself. So Jordan Webb isn't vegan if he buys leather shoes, he just eats plant-based, which is a right thing to do. But to the point of your discussion: almost all today vegans grew up like everyone else and we loved the taste of meat/milk/eggs/whatever, we loved how leather and wool looked and felt and some of us miss it. But we just choose to respect other sentient beings and not to pay for them being forcibly bred, tortured and slaughtered for our own - all in all meaningless - pleasures and benfits. So yeah, being vegan and having retro-like shoes made of synthethic leather (as well as eating beyond meat, for that matter) allows us to align with moral principles we have and also show others that they can still have what they love, but without hurting others.

I regret not buying the Kobe 5 back in 2010, it was the wolf gray cw so when the next Kobe model released, the Kobe 6, I bought 2 colorways, the purple gradient and the dark knight (which is on sale). It was my favorite sneaker of all time. I used it for almost everything.

Great conversation at the end lol. I think that they could be a shoe that you could wear outside of the court with joggers or sweatpants even with the gym compression pants look. Sporty I guess is what some people would define it. However I agree with Mrs. Wing I can't see someone wearing Kobe's to dress up or have jeans or dress pants on unless it is a hype release like the Kobe 6 Grinch for example.

I've had kobe's 5-11 all original models. Top 3: 1. Kobe 8 TB Black/White (allstar zoom air insole a plus) 2. Kobe 6 TB Grey/black 3. Kobe 7 Supreme, really liked being able to switch out midsoles

IMO, dress up shoes for me are shoes with either leather panels or at least multiple layers, say like Jordans in general. In terms of Kobes, I prefer the engineered mesh versions of shoes like 8,9 and 11s are good to go; maybe even the 9 elites

I remember playing in a pair of these for the firsts time and I stuck like glue on a 24 hour fitness. Don't know if it was the shoe or if it was the gym but I stick like glue so much that my toe nails started bleeded. Maybe the shoe fitted me too big?!? Did anyone else experience that? Agree with your wife on the dressing up topic. However for casual use. Kobe are definitely rockable. Kobe 5 og is more comfy imo for performance. But had to retire them because they were separating. We need more colors for the protro v. Still waiting for Nike to release. Hoping to pump out extra quantity to meet demand.
